    Pinkpop 1979

... listen close in the very very beginning - Geddy says "thank you"

    Pinkpop 1979

The bootleg on youtube begins with Geddy saying "thank you" and then announcing Passage To Bangkok - I just don't think that's the way they would begin their set .... Other bootlegs from the Hemispheres tour have them opening with Anthem, and then Geddy doing a similar rap to introduce Bangkok ... I am hoping that they have this entire show, and will release as a bonus We need to find someone who was at this show who remembers the set :D
  7. ... I would think that if his parents felt "Ellwood" fitting, "Cornelius" is not out of the question

    Pinkpop 1979

The bits from the 1979 Pinkpop Festival are some of my favorite - Geddy's vocals were incredible for that show ... The setlist and recording from the show have Passage To Bangkok as the first song, which we know was not the case - the Hemispheres tour opened with Anthem, followed by Bangkok ... and even though it was a festival with other bands, I'm sure Rush didn't shorten their setlist by opening with Bangkok ... Is there any info that would lead us believe that the entire show was recorded, at least the audio ? ...... The video seems to be from a TV news channel, and doesn't guarantee a full performance, but I would think the audio would be there for the entire show ... .

  11. Wow, look at all this that I've been missing having rarely strayed from the main forum ! What is somewhat odd is that I never, ever felt any connection with The Beatles, but I really like some of their obvious disciples and bands that were influenced by them - Badfinger, ELO, Cheap Trick, ABBA, Superdrag ... ( I feel the same about Star Wars - an iconic universally loved entity and I just have no emotion or connection with it ) Music is really about what it means to the individual listener - and for me, "Telephone Line" really takes me somewhere - it is everything that Beatles' songs are not for me ... I feel the same way about The Stones' "Moonlight Mile" - it is more than just a song to me - the Beatles were never able to take me to that place And let's not get me started with ABBA - I cannot imagine a world without ABBA :D . .

  14. To say that I "love" Geddy's voice would be a monumental understatement - his voice was why I fell in love with RUSH, and was so insanely perfect for what they were doing early on ... Those 70s albums are god-like Whatever the case now, I think that we should all sit down at dinner tonight and be thankful for Geddy Lee
  15. Rejected back cover photo of RUSH from Neil's favorite era: http://cdn.visualnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/apple-1980s-catalog-04.jpg
  16. If Neil's idea of the "real" Rush was having Geddy completely water-down his signature vocals, doing away with the atmosphere and imagery that the band had previously been so successful in creating, all while copping the look and appearance of the guy who sold parachute pants and Capizeos at the mall - well then, yes, that's when it began .. Like I said, for me, the beginning of the end
  17. Moving Pictures was the beginning of the end - if we're including live albums, it doesn't even make my Top 10
  18. Another way to look at this would be to consider the fans of the band during certain points in their career .. My 2nd RUSH show was Sept 1980 - the Spectrum in Philly - and SAXON opened, and were well received ... My first RUSH show was May 1980, and at 12 years old, I remember feeling a little intimidated by the crowd - these were the same guys I'd see at the arcade with denim jackets, and who were into Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Motorhead, etc ( hey, when you're that age, you're impressionable :) and somehow, I felt a kinship with this group ) ... Having seen Cheap Trick and KISS the previous year, the RUSH crowd was much different .. I mean this endearingly, but from my best recollection - and I remember those shows vividly - RUSH was not drawing any geeks or females at the time ... Definitely a metal crowd ... I never saw YES back then, but I seriously doubt their crowd was similar . .

  21. :musicnote: lazing on a Sunday, :musicnote: lazing on a Sunday, :musicnote: lazing on a Sunday aaafternooon :musicnote: I really miss him .... "genius" is a word tossed around much to easy, however, in his case, it's justified
  22. ... and then there is the issue regarding royalties
  23. Narps, this is in reference to the credits on "The Spirit Of Radio" - it says "Steel drums by Erwig Chuapchuaduah" Keep in mind, it also says "Inspiration and vocal coaching Daisy the Dog" Anyone want to venture a guess who Erwig was ?? Terry Brown ?? Alex ?? I think if Neil played the steel drums, his ego would have insisted that he receive credit ;)
