  1. Guys, Permanent Waves is a 70s album. Quit hijacking my thread with that 70s release, I want just the 80s stuff in here. :P ;)
  2. I hate this question, I thought this thread was better off dead, though I am posting here just to make my opinion on this thread official while it's up anyway. Rock cannot die.
  3. Welcome to The Rush Forum!!!!!!! :D Read that one recently, very cool guy!
  4. Welp, after a reasonable wait time, it would appear TRF's favorite band that isn't Rush, happens to be the same band folks thought Rush were when they first heard Working Man on the radio: Led Zeppelin! Break out Stairway and cozy up in some Kashmir, cuz the Zeppelin now rules in these airways! Of course, a lot of other bands came close...The Beatles, for instance, or Black Sabbath! Close race overall, and someday those results could just change ;)
  5. With the most fav eighties metal albums threads, I decided it would be interesting to discover everyone's most fav eighties albums across all its bands and genres. I might be able to answer this one myself, but I probably won't. Happy decisioning! :)
  6. Sorry..what?!? Ahem. HE SAID... HE. DOESNT. LIKE. FREDDIES. VOICE!!! You spelled "Freddie's" wrong. It needs an apostrophe.
  7. You know the drill...have at it. (Gulp)
  8. Last child is barely funky. Aerosmith had untouchable groove, but when it comes to funk they aren't getting close to Bowie's plastic soul.
  9. Queen - Keep Yourself Alive, Liar, Great King Rat, Son And Daughter Queen II - Father To Son, Nevermore, Ogre Battle, The March Of The Black Queen Sheer Heart Attack - Killer Queen, Brighton Rock, In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisted, Now I'm Here A Night At The Opera - Bohemian Rhapsody, '39, The Prophet's Song, Death On Two Legs A Day At The Races - The Millionaire Waltz, Somebody To Love, Tie Your Mother Down, You Take My Breath Away News Of The World - It's Late, We Are The Champions, Spread Your Wings, My Melancholy Blues Jazz - Jealousy, Don't Stop Me Now, Dead On Time, Dreamer's Ball The Game - Play The Game, Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Save Me (Skipping Flash) Hot Space - Under Pressure, Life Is Real (Song For Lennon), Las Parablas De Amour, Staying Power The Works - Radio Ga Ga, Hammer To Fall, I Want To Break Free, It's A Hard Life A Kind Of Magic - One Vision, A Kind Of Magic, Who Wants To Live Forever, Princes Of The Universe The Miracle - The Miracle, Was It All Worth It, I Want It All, Breakthru Innuendo - Innuendo, I'm Going Slightly Mad, These Are The Days Of Our Lives, The Show Must Go On Made In Heaven - It's A Beautiful Day, Made In Heaven, Too Much Love Will Kill You, I Was Born To Love You Four truly great songs from each album (minus Flash), and trust me there are more than those. Truly great is highly subjective. Many of those songs you listed are only truly great to a big time Queen fan You speak as though any of our opinions could ever be objective.
  10. Thanks all again! I just read back through it myself for the first time I think since I wrote it, and while I am still disappointed that the poll on here was my only primary source for figuring out 2112's influence, and it's results weren't really as conclusive as I spun them, as well as a few notable typos from having written roughly that whole thing in the span of about 24 hours (did a ton of prior research though), I do like it, and I am very proud to be able to say that I did it. So thanks for your constant support of all things Rush on here folks, cuz this community was just one of the big factors that led to me writing this essay rather than some other 4,000 word essay I wouldn't have been as interested in.
  11. I need to read that still. I'm glad you'd like to! It's probably more than a bit dense itself, but quite a lot of it is stuff everyone here already knows and the rest is me arguing a rather simple point, the IB just declared it must be 4,000 words, so I could've done much more and made it epic, or I could have done much less and covered practically as much ground, but 4,000 words meant it turned out how it did, and I just hope folks here find it readable and enjoyable.
  12. Queen - 2 Queen II - 2 Sheer Heart Attack - 2 A Night At The Opera - 3 A Day At The Races - 4 News Of The World - 3 Jazz - 2 The Game - 4 Hot Space - 2 The Works - 3 A Kind Of Magic - 1 The Miracle - 2 Innuendo - 2 Made In Heaven - 3 Case in point. Disagreed.
  13. 14. Queen is the one band I love more than Rush, in every era. Let's see... Queen vs. Rush = Queen Queen II vs. Fly By Night = Queen II Sheer Heart Attack vs. Caress Of Steel = Sheer Heart Attack A Night At The Opera vs. 2112 = I may have more copies of 2112 than any other album in three formats, have written a 4,000 word essay about the title track alone, and admit that if Cygnus X-1 Book I weren't my fav I would openly call 2112 the greatest thing rush had ever done, but A Night At The Opera IS my favorite album of all time ever, without question. A Night At The Opera A Day At The Races vs. A Farewell To Kings = A Farewell To Kings, my favorite Rush album vs. the first Queen album I was slightly disappointed by News Of The World vs. Hemispheres = News Of The World, revitalized Queen finally capitalizing on pretty much ruling the world vs. Rush's perfectly flawed masterpiece of prog, guess I'm just that much of a Queen fan. Jazz vs. Permanent Waves = Permanent Waves The Game vs. Moving Pictures = Moving Pictures Hot Space vs. Signals = Signals The Works vs. Grace Under Pressure = The Works, though neither is perfect. A Kind Of Magic vs. Power Windows = Power Windows, too much filler on A Kind Of Magic, though both are incredible The Miracle vs. Hold Your Fire = The Miracle, any day of the week Innuendo vs. Presto = Innuendo, by a country mile Made In Heaven vs. Roll The Bones = Made In Heaven, I can't bear to think about Roll The Bones most days. As for the rest of Rush's career, it would trump Made In Heaven in total, for the record. Nevertheless, I love Queen more than Rush.
  15. My high school marching band: The school song The national anthem Also happened to be the only for sure question on our band final every year. What are the two most important songs we play in the school's eyes.
  16. Genesis: Supper's Ready Turn It On Again Mike Rutherford agrees with me.
  17. About the Messenger of The Gods CD set, I have all the songs on CD 1 + first song on CD 2, but rest I don´t have. I have the compilation album called Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs that was released 2006. Yeah, I hadn't really been interested in looking far into his solo stuff until I got to Made In Heaven and essentially finished off the Queen albums, which was just earlier this year. So the new set came out just in time to catch my eye before I went back to get the old one. Oh, you are a new Queen fan? I have been a Queen fan since I was a kid, it was the first real music I started to listen to. :) I'm 18. I've been into Queen as long as I've been into music, which has been since about sixth grade, but I didn't start buying albums of any kind until just before my freshman year of high school.

  19. My wife got me the entire Queen 40th anniversary CD set. VERY pleased with that! http://www.jd-photography.net/pics/image4.JPG Epic! I still need Flash Gordon to complete my digital collection cuz I got impatient and skipped straight to Hot Space while I was collecting them in chronological order. That is quite terrific!
  20. I got all three big music items tied for the top of my list (in addition to actually everything else on my list, I don't know how my mom does it, but she has a way with saving and finding discounts). They were: Queen On Air (the six CD delux box set, I'm with ya Zumbi), Freddie Mercury: Messenger Of The Gods two CD set (super super pleased with this, had never heard most of this stuff before), and the awesome 2112 delux box (not the one with the skateboard, lol). Very pleased with all.
  21. simple, sum up the essence of a band in a mere two songs (or fewer). I'll start with my favorite one and one of the easiest ones. Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust
  22. Genesis: Supper's Ready, Turn It On Again ...and anything else would really be kinda redundant. 90% or more of what they were capable of can be very quickly summed up with these two. Not to say they don't have other excellent essentials, but if you want to show someone the band in under thirty minutes, these two will do it.
