  1. The Trees. Always loved it In all honesty, I prefer side B of this album to side A everytime! I feel it all went a bit over the top with the first side, although I do still enjoy it!
  2. It has to be Limelight. I bought Moving Pictures on a whim and this was the song that got me hooked all the way back in the day all those years ago. Well, 2011 anyway! Close second would have to be Witch Hunt. Their is something so very haunting about this song words cannot describe!
  3. To be perfectly honest, I love this album completely from start to finish, its a masterpiece! But I went for Afterimage. I adore the lyrics and the chorus melody is a killer! Nothing to criticize with this album, I prefer it to Signals!
  4. I voted for 2112. I find the Soliloquy segment absolutely heartbreaking. Everything is spot on, and is both bery much of its time, and yet strangely timeless!
  5. Probably Bastille Day or Fountain. Have to say, I don't think their is a huge difference between this album and 2112. Both are awesome albums! Maybe I prefer 2112 though. This is to 2112 what AFTK is to Hem.
  6. Will see...may just get the recent box set and then save HYF for last. I don't hate Power Windows, its just not the side of Rush I fell in love with, and if it was I don't think I would have gone any further! Saying that, I do love Grace Under Pressure with a passion, so I'm not against the synth era, and Signals has finally grown on me! So I have some faith in PoW. As someone said, this isn't pop music!
  7. I am sure this isn't directed at me, but I am encouraged by these words! A lot of the thirteen rush albums I own are still growing on me, and lately its been AFTK and Hem especially! So yeah...I will keep on going. I used to really dislike Signals, but lately its become thoroughly listenable, but I can't see PoW growing on me, which is frustrating because I really appreciate the sound. It just leaves me cold! I like to go in chronological order, so how is Hold Your Fire?
  8. I have yet to properly give the debut a real listen, and only just got around to listening to fly by night properly after having it for ages! I still need to get Hold Your Fire through to Feedback, but I am worried I will get them and never play them, as I really got put off by Power Windows!
  9. I find Fleetwood Mac's Mirage album very relaxing. And Khoma All Erodes. Both get played when I need to relax!
  10. So...Alter Bridge are awesome. For what is worth, I can see how somebody who loves Myles work with Slash may not feel the same way about Alter Bridge. They aren't really all that similar. I prefer AB, mainly because I prefer Tremonti to Slash. Well, each to their own! Apples and oranges!
  11. Well, I guess thats fair. But considering their record sales are down, and yet the tours are getting bigger, I would suggest their is more than a few fans out their illegally downloading.
  12. THEY ARE NOT AVERAGE! After all, the worlds most successful modern singers and bands are on the whole better to look at than listen to. And all the success of AB, however moderate in comparison to other bigger bands, can be attributed to hard work, word of mouth and talent. Not hype, huge record label backing and selling out! Blackbird had very little support from the label but word of mouth made it the modern classic that it is today! I think if they had had the label support and media support Blackbird could have sold Adele sized numbers! Seriously, they are absolutely amazing. Not an opinion I share alone. Compare Nickleback, Rihanna, Coldplay and Linkin Park with AB. Are you gonna tell me a great act is defined by how well known they are? Coz anyone with a good ear for talent will say that AB are miles better, even if they aren't shifting records by the million. Arg.
  13. They are very well known internationally, and here in the UK they went top ten TWICE with the last two albums, rave reviews, well received singles and Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti have been frequently interviewed all over the press, and the last two albums have been making waves all over the world. Maybe not the USA so much, but still, they get better reception now than I think Creed ever did. And it took them about six years from inception to finally be able to sell out Wembley. And the majority of their fans discovered them via word of mouth! No hype whatsoever.
  14. Most forgettable songs? Power Windows, minus Mystic Rhythms. I don't get how this is some fans favourite album.
  15. I agree, but in all honesty I still feel my generation have the worst sounding records since forever.
  16. Im not a fan of Radiohead either...but I admit I can see your point! For some bands music it is needed, but only because they use the modern way of studio recording as an instrument. The bands I struggle with write straightforward songs that only come alive if they perform live, and even then its make or break as modern production makes a lot of very poor artists sound strong! And I think if one compares these two breakup albums they may note a difference: Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Adele's 21. Even if you dislike the music, their is no denying that the Mac stand up better. The production is perfect for the genre. Same goes for early Madonna and Lady Gaga. And I am sorry, but as much as I love Clockwork Angels, I wish it had been recorded, mixed and produced to the same standards as an album like A Farewell To Kings. I do think CA stands up amazingly well, mind you. But for thoee spoilt for choice by growing up with the early Rush albums when they were first released, I can understand their frustration with the muddy sound of the last few releases. Music isn't progressing, its mostly struggling! And I listen to a lot of modern music, so don't accuse me of being stuck in the past!
  17. Arg am I alone in thinking the Anette era spawned the best ever Nighwish music? I love the early Tarja stuff, but I don't see how they coukd ever better the last two albums! I ADORE DARK PASSION PLAY!!
  18. Sorry to double post, went back to this one again! I am 23 and for about five years I have been convinced that modern music sounds ugly, rarely do I hear music that sounds organic and I am sick of having to listen over and over to a song trying to get past the production in order to finally warm to each seperate instrument and vocal layer. Aside from a few bands, EVERY modern rock and pop artist have such loud and bassy production, and it all sounds so thick, dense. Bruce Springsteens Magic is a prime example. A very near perfect collection of Springsteen anthems ruined by shocking production amd mixing it is AWFUL! And there are a lot more examples...music really did sound better about thirty years ago! You dont need to be old to notice or dislike this!
  19. I still think Rush got off lightly...compare Clockwork Angels and Snakes and Arrows to Bruce Springsteens Magic or Alter Bridges ABIII, and you will come away thinking Rush were underproduced! As for Vapor Trails, have yet to hear it (will probably start with the Remix).
  20. Lacuna Coil: Karmacode (about a year, now my all time favourite) Unleashed Memories (a couple of years, now another favourite) Comalies (a long time to appreciate fully) Worth noting LC are my all time number one band. Rush: Permanent Waves (failed to hear greatness for months) A Farewell To Kings/Hemispheres (that voice...I shuddered before I learned to love) Grace Under Pressure (now I adore it) Fleetwood Mac: Tusk (believe it or not, after months and months, I played it again and it all clicked into place. Love every track) Khoma: The Second Wave (I think this swedish band is the most underrated ever. Partly because this masterpiece takes a few listens to fully appreciate) Jimmy Eat World: Clarity Bruce Springsteen: Born To Run (for a long time, I thought this was one of The Boss' weaker records. Now its close to the top for me!) Pretty much all these albums are in my Top Ten in a collection of over 300 albums from a myriad genres.
  21. Well...ABIII is the sort of album I love, but Fortress loses mainly due to Bleed It Dry and a few slightly ordinary Alter Bidge numbers. Bu itis pprobably still growing on me! The production is miles better than ABIII as well, forgot to mention that! The songs have room to breathe, and they lack the dense wall of sound approach that made ABIII take over a year to fully grow on me (once it did I fell in love)
  22. For me, the verse is good, the chorus good, but they don't work together well. Its like a mash up of two very different songs, with a bizarre chill out solo thrown into what is essentially a standard thrashy metal number. Although I like all the songs on this album a lot, I still feel it is missing a little something. This is an 8/10 rather than the 9/10 I gave ABIII. Really frustrating, as I sense so much greatness on Achilles, Addicted, Lover and Calm the Fire. Fortress is a good track but it lacks the emotion of the similar Blackbird. The Uninvited is a very good track, not great. Same goes to Peace, Farther, Cry and All Ends Well. I still think its great, but not the masterpiece that its predecessor was!
  23. All Ends Well is good, but I think they have many better ballad type songs: Breathe Again, Life Must Go On and Watch Over You stand out for me as being better than AEW. Saying that, I think Bleed It Dry is my least favourite, but I still really like it! However, the more I listen to Fortress the more I feel they could do better. I think the potential is already there for a monumental fifth release!
  24. Well...I have no kids but I can assure you my dads son has amazing taste! He says that Rush are one of the greatest bands he has ever heard, and wishes more people would turn to them and ignore silly rock bands other people his age adore like Linkin Park, Coldplay, Limp Bizkit and Lostprophets. After all, he says, who will still care about them when they turn forty? He believes they are equal to Led Zeppelin and a worthy competitor to The Beatles. In fact, he may prefer them to both! On the other hand he adores Bruce Springsteen and Toto...so go figure... silly Segue.
