  1. Come on children! Behave! I am really digging Counterparts. Has to be said...I don't care about sales statistics (Otherwise we would all be backstreet boys fans!), CP is better to my ears than Snakes and Arrows.
  2. I can't wait to start arguing over the entire Rush catalogue! Woop! Presto down...five left to go and I'm gonna be a pro!
  3. Yay my box set arrived! A bit bare bones but hey! It was cheap...so looking forward to catching up with EVERYTHING! Dunno why, but I am really looking forward to Counterparts and Vapor Trails.
  4. Have you absorbed All The World's A Stage yet? Arg....I keep forgetting about this one!
  5. I will hunt that down when I have absorbed the box set!
  6. That is such a relief! Which is the best of that lot?
  7. I did but I didn't really pick up on that! But still... So is this new one likely to please me?
  8. Oh my days I love framed vinyls but I also love to touch and feel them!
  9. How is the sound quality? I have Rush In Rio, and the vocal mix is so bad I have no desire to ever buy another live DVD from Rush again (coz that one cost me £19). However I can't afford to see them live, so if this is a good alternative could someone let me know? Either that or perhaps another better alternative.
  10. That picture of Kate Bush is the spitting image of a girl I came very close to marrying
  11. Grand Designs is doing all kinds of right for me right now! So much style without substance So much stuff without style Great lyrics! I am still unsure how this album matches up in comparison to their more hard rock/metallic albums, but on its own terms I am really digging it!
  12. Ok, my new Rush box set comes tomorrow so it won't be long before I can make a proper assessment of this era of Rush. But all of a sudden, Power Windows has opened itself up to me and it is an absolute gem! I am now edging close to proclaiming it a masterpiece. It is just so ethereal and the melodies are fantastic! It is as intoxicating musically as much of their earlier works, such as A Farewell To Kings or Moving Pictures, even if it is completely different from that whole sound! So for now, and I love to say I have been proven wrong, Power Windows is tops (and I think its a far better album than Signals and possibly as good as Grace Under Pressure).
  13. Emotion Detector is also a brilliant song! This is getting harder to do...Power Windows has little of what made me love Rush in the first place, but I am starting to love it on its own terms! Having enjoyed listening to Hold Your Fire this week, the future bodes well for me and the rest of their catalogue!
  14. I am really starting to get into this album, and Grand Designs has suddenly started to stand out as an amazing song! Its all getting so much more exciting! This is turning out to be a brilliant album after all my complaining!
  15. Im looking forward to hearing Vapor Trails. I have held off listening to it coz I couldn't face the sound problems
  16. I am very interested in events like these, because it is wrong to pretend they didn't happen. I plan to get a couple of books on this subject, and I will have to get around to viewing that making of. Sounds essential!
  17. Oh I forgot to order that! Will make it my NEXT rush purchase. I keep meaning to get it!
  18. Can't wait to complete my Rush collection with the Studio Album box set! Every album from Presto through to SaA. I only own one of those (Snakes and Arrows) so I look forward to hearing the rest!
  19. It is seven years older than me. Yikes! 30 seems way to close for comfort! Brilliant album, bu a step down in quality from the previous run of albums. I think Grace Under Pressure improved upon this album exponentially, and then it all dipped again after that. Still, this is a fantastic album, The Analog Kid New World Man, Losing It and Subdivisions are my favourite songs.
  20. Hotel Rwanda. And I have no problem in admitting that I cried like a baby the whole way through. It seems so disconnected from the real world I live in, and yet an entire nation went to the dogs overnight in an orgy of mass slaughter, and this little film barely scratches the surface. Devastating, I find it hard to believe people actually choose to turn a blind eye to such evil. It makes me sick. I love this film. It never fails to shock me.
  21. I think the next album will be absolutely killer stuff... But I still think it will be tough to beat the songwriting of the last two albums. I am in the minority:I prefer Annette to both Tarja and Floor. Something about her studio work affects me deeply. As for live performances: FLOOR ALL THE WAY! I do expect to be blown away by her for the next album, but I will miss the sweet naivety that was Annettes trademark on songs like For The Heart I Once Had, Eva, Meadows Of Heaven, The Birdie Song and Storytime. It was a precious voice, it had a character that outshone all her weaknesses!
  22. Its getting there...some of the synths seem to drown everything else out but I'm wondering if maybe thats a good thing? It sounds much better than I remembered! Its still not even close to Grace Under Pressure, my favourite post-MP album of the eighties! But then that is one of my top tier Rush albums. It goes like this: AFTK PW MP Hem GUP 2112 (Possibly Power Windows...it is suddenly emerging as the dark horse of my collection!) Signals CA FBN COS HYF SaA Rush
  23. I can't believe I am typing this... So after all my recent confessions of saying how much I dislike PoW, having had an on/off relationship with this album, I decided to play it today...and it has suddenly started to click! I am really, really enjoying the lyrics AND the synthy nature of the music! Some passages have an ethereal vibe that is starting to make me think the eighties really were as good as the seventies for Rush! (Ok, that may be a teensy weensy bit hyperbolic). I am not going to call it a favourite, but its ahead of Signals in places and I can see me preferring it eventually to the bands first three albums. I will keep replaying it, as it feels like this has just started opening up to me in a way a Rush album hasn't done for a very long time! Hold Your Fire may have helped me warm to this. Its gone up a couple of notches...maybe top ten...
  24. I dunno how it shows them at the peak of their musical abilities, I can only really see expertise in the synth department! Please, give me details I may either disagree with you, or perhaps gain some insight on an album I am striving to enjoy!
  25. Well I had high expectations for Power Windows. I had very, very low expectations for Hold Your Fire. Go figure. But saying that, having enjoyed HYF more than I had expected, I am now more hopeful about the seven remaining albums I have left to collect! So the box set is looking more and more attractive every day! Out of 13 albums, I struggle with only one. Not bad going, eh?
