  1. Chicago tops my list. I've been there on 3 separate trips, and enjoyed each one. They were only 2-3 days though, wish I could spend a whole week there, preferably in the summer to catch a Cubs game. Seattle and Portland get high marks, both fun and good beer towns. Toronto was fun, but Jeez that was 40 years ago. Definitely worth a redo.
  2. Never had that happen with a RUSH shirt yet.....had a Gary Numan shirt that happened to back in the nineties.... Don't get me wrong, man, it's not like the shirt was being preserved under glass. It was worn, and regularly, so it had a lot of miles on it. Got a lot of complements and comments about it, especially at the concerts. Ran it to a better than average number of Geddy fans there. The only Rush shirt I don't wear much is the MP shirt that was given out in premium editions of the Beyond the Lighted Stage. That one did a major shrink job after the first washing, and is a bit snug.
  3. Still down due to "an inattentive server" per Facebook page yesterday, still trying to fix.
  4. After wearing through many years of work, play, and three Rush concerts - R 30, Time Machine, and Clockwork Angels - my beloved royal blue MFH T-shirt wore so thin today a huge hole has appeared, rendering it no longer wearable. :(
  5. Stopped in traffic when the car starts shaking, courtesy of an irresponsible young lady driving a car with too many watts and sub woofers. As soon as I'm able I accelerate to get away from the noise and vibration. No such luck at the next intersection, she's back. I get ready to race away again when I hear "bloop, bloop" and see a red and blue reflection in my rearview mirror. It's one of the big Suburbans the police now use, in the lane next to me. Unlike most moron drivers here, I stay stopped, and the officer pulls around and in front of me. He bloops his siren again and makes a pointing motion to the car at his right. Yep, the young lady. She gets pulled over and was probably given a ticket for excessive noise. Most jurisdictions down here don't bother with verbal warnings on overly loud sound systems, it's an automatic citation. Made my day!
  6. Lauren Lake's Paternity Court. Reality paternity beefs with an in-studio audience and their accompanying vocalizations. It comes on in the early afternoon, when I'm visiting Karen at rehab. She turned me on to it. Watching the parents of the subject progeny duking it out has its merits-legal and otherwise. The arguments for and against, the intervening third party, the tension as the DNA results are announced, the releived or crestfallen look on the parents-especially the alleged baby daddy- is priceless. Judge Lauren Lake is skilled and compassionate, but doesn't suffer fools gladly. Yeah, I know it's serious business. But this beats the snot out of Judge Judy!
  7. I'm visiting Karen at the rehab facility. It's around 1:15 pm, we are just conversing, when I feel this horrible vibration in the floor, through the wheelchair Karen is in, the wheeled table. It's accompanied by this low rumble. I bark out, "Jesus K Reist, what the, the smack was that?" Karen explains it's blasting going on as part of construction of a supermall going on not far from there Thought it was a freaking earthquake! Really gave me a start, and I'm sure Rocky had witnessed it he would have gone apeshit. I get the law firms representing people whose lives and property are affected by it, that was f---ed up!
  8. Happy double nickel, Crim. Here's to not driving it.
  9. In the case of YYZ, the most obvious punch-ins are during the 3 bass solos. I doubt they were to cover flubs, in this case, though. I think Geddy just wanted to be able to concentrate on getting a good performance for each solo. Also, the effects during the solo might have been too challenging to trigger in real-time. I get this YYZ, particularly in Geddy's 3rd solo, at the point where he switches to playing the harmonics at the end. He seems to have a hell of a time doing it in the live recordings. At one time many years ago I fooled around at playing bass, and just imagining anyone, much less Ged, try to play it blows me away. :geddy:
  10. CP's Facebook page posted about the server issue 1/25, no news since. I'm another former and current member, though I do most of my posting here since I joined when CP blew up in 2013. Each board has its own unique crowd, and for the most part, I'm good with both of them. I'm neutral on the swear filter issue; some boards I'm on have filters that have generated a new word list to get around the filter that would put the OED to shame. Fook, chit, and bish are particular favorites.
  11. Easing back in. Karen is still undergoing rehab for wound care of diabetes related leg ulcers that were worse than initially thought. She could be in through February. The place is great, even allows dogs to visit, so Rocky has been there a couple of times. Still sucks to not have her home, though. :(
  12. The Equalizer 2. Badder ass Denzel. Spawn next up.
  13. Karen has been going through some serious health issues requiring hospitalization, so basically I've been off since Christmas. Hopefully she'll be home in a week, during which she will be having home care. I may check in and out, but mainly I'll be silent.
  14. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Festivus to the rest of you all!
  15. Wrecking Crew session bass player passed away yesterday at 81. RIP Joe, and say Hi to Glen Campbell from all of us.
  16. Libraries? Those things still exist? Yes, they house amazing things such as books, cd's, and dvd's that you can borrow and enjoy. So, it does the same stuff as the internet only you have to leave the house instead? That stuff and much more! Our library has a really excellent live music program once a month that has had some pretty good Bluegrass and Americana bands. This month it will be holiday brass. Also, libraries are the #1 place of internet access for people that do not have home access for whatever reason (and you would be surprised, it's a lot of people.) There was also an interesting feature on NPR the other day about the movies on DVD that libraries have , that for whatever ownership rights reasons, are not and may never be available for streaming but are still available on DVD. Our library has the entire Criterion collection, which is a curated ongoing collection of "important classic and contemporary films on home video. ..." that has really interesting movies. (Big favorites of Lucas, lol.). But this time of year I just end up getting "White Christmas" and "Natl Lampoon Holiday Vacation!" :rant off: Not having a library or using it would drive me crazy. I love it and I have worked in one (in a jail no less) and I pick up books and stuff weekly. I use Overdrive for audio and e-books all the time. We have a great library system in our county and I use a couple of city libraries too. The internet fills a niche but it will never replace the experience of going to the library, IMHO Absolutely! Books and cd's for me, movie and TV series Dvds for Karen and I. Karen is watching Christopher Robin as I post, and she has some 20 items she is on a wait list for. I use the internet mostly for videos from YouTube, but some things are just better when supported by a 120 watt sound system and accompanied by buttered popcorn hot and fresh out of the Whirly Pop. Hey, it even makes Rush Dvds look and sound better!

So, it does the same stuff as the internet only you have to leave the house instead? Yep. Old habits die hard, like old mediums. Hell, on occasion I even use cassette and VHS tapes.

  19. Follow-up with primary physican, in fair shape. Cholesterol and triglyceride down to 126 and 100, but A1C at 5.9 . Being retired wreaking havoc on the diet! Also need to get back on the supplements as hemoglobin and Vitamin D levels way down. Everything else ok, Doc says I need to exercise more. Looks like more dog walks in the picture.
  20. 20+ years ago for me. Showed up at the court, waited 3 hours, got called. Served as an alternate, guy was on trial for posession of coke w/intent to deliver, got caught with more than half a kilo hidden in the hollowed out soles of a pair of Nikes. Went through trial, but stayed in courtroom during deliberation. Open and shut case, jury was out 45 minutes before convicting, after which we were dismissed. With the intent charge defendant was looking at a 15 year minimum.
  21. Barely 60 and clear. Dropped to 56 last night, which is very cool down here. Blankets and space heaters a big help. This is our second cold spell since the start of November. Usually we have two all "winter". Hmm.
