  1. hahaha thank you! I'm 15 and have been playing rock guitar for a few years now :) and I DO have a band, except I am the dummer, and we are not progressive rock :P I wish we were though! WHAT? You're only 15, you play Rush songs on guitar and you're a drummer? Maybe you'll end up being like Dave Grohl... that dude plays guitar and drums equally well. Okay, you listen me young lady - as I've said before on this forum, I am old and bald, so automatically I am smarter (or at least "wiser?"... "more experienced?") than you are. So, take my advice - STAY with the music. If you were 23 or something, I wouldn't be quite as impressed, but you're ONLY 15. Holy smokes, kid... And don't end up in an "all girl" band either. As sad and as unfair as this is, "all girl" bands are rarely taken seriously and are often considered gimmicky and not serious musicians. I play drums too, only at age 50, i don't play much any more. I used to be pretty good when I was 20... here is a short solo and a look at my unusual drums. Check it out... http://ruggeddude.net/the-rugged-drummer/ I would love to see you playing your drums... I could be your long-distance, free drum teacher... but I wouldn't be surprised if you could kick my ass on the kit.
  2. WOW! Really sounded good. I liked that little thrash-ish feel to it. That guy can really sing too. I would give both of my nuts and 1/3 of my penis to see Rush play this song live again... even if Geddy had to tone it down a bit. Would still rock!
  3. I have to go with Hemispheres, side 1. I could listen to that GD thing ten times a day. I don't, but I could... Next, we go with Close to the Edge, side 1 , the title track. Then, Foxtrot, side 2, Horizons (great classical guitar solo by Hackett) and then Supper's Ready. It's just a coincidence that all three sides are concepts. I almost went with Permanent Waves, side 1... that would be my number 4. Or, no wait - maybe my number 4 would be Moving Pictures, side 1...
  4. Okay, I got it to work... I'm retarded... I was clicking the wrong thing. So, THAT was VERY cool! If that's your picture on your name thing you look very young, so I am even more impressed with your playing! Keep at it - MusicalAbby rules all young chick guitar players!! You'll go on to start your own prog rock band some day and I will be the first in line to buy tickets... (I better get a goddam back stage pass too, otherwise it's over between us!)
  5. I have a feeling my internet (I call it "my Google") isn't strong enough... I live back in the bush, off the grid even, about three miles from the closest house (and civilization) but I do have one of those little Roger's Rocket Stick things that I plug into my laptop. That's how I'm able to go on the Google, even though I'm off the grid. I'll try it again...
  6. Love chili! Any kind... the hotter the better. (Well, to a point... I don't want a goddam hole burned through my belly) - you did leave one step out of your instructions though... QUOTE - "Pile chili and a TON of toppings into bowl. Sit ass on couch, eat, nap." It should read - "Pile chili and a TON of toppings into bowl. Sit ass on couch, eat, FART, nap."
  7. Would LOVE to see Losing It played live with the strings. Geddy could sing it too, since it's done in a lower register. YES!
  8. at least 2 good albums came after Not so sure, Bathory... I'll say ONE good album came after... A Trick of the Tail is a great album. When I was 15, one of my very first bands played Squonk. Luckily for me, as a drummer, the guys picked one of the easier drumming songs on that album. A few weeks later we learned how to play Dance on a Volcano. That one took a bit of "figuring out."
  9. Do I need to be a member of facebook to play the songs? I don't go on the facebook.... I tried to play it but it wouldn't let me in... maybe my Google is the shits? I would love to hear your Rush covers, especially Circumstances. That's not easy to play...

    MP vs PeW

Pretty hard to argue those points!
  11. I don't know the lyrics very well (not a fave Rush song), but I'm pretty sure Neil had a golden retreiver. Could be that one.. or, knowing the way he writes, he was probably just making a statement about dogs in general.

    MP vs PeW

I'm still stuck on PeW. I remember when I was about 17, trying to figure out the last section in Jacob's Ladder on the drums. I never bothered to do it the easy and way and actually count it out, so I never really knew if I was playing in 6/8, 7/8 or whatever, but I did learn it. And, then I just HAD to show of "in the high school halls" the next day... and in the music room... and in the parking lot... and at my buddie's house after school. yep......................
  13. Don't you have two discs? The first disc is the concert and the second contains the The Boys in Brazil documentary. Nope, just one. But, at least I know why now. There is (or was?) two versions of the Rio show. And, of course, I got version one... Hmmmm. KCUF!
  14. I'm getting a semi ...
  15. I have a question about the DVd, Rush in Rio. I always hear people talking about "The Boys From Brazil" being on it, but my DVD has ONLY the concert, nothing else at all. Does anyone know why??

    MP vs PeW

Okay, CG... I know when I'm being out-smarted. You're right... sort of, but maybe not kinda for sure. Different Strings is a "slightly" weaker song than TSOR, Freewill and Entre Nouse and NS. Sort of but not for sure.
  17. The ketchup ruined it. I might have been okay with just the box 'o mac and the Spam.... I love how the Canadians call it Kraft Dinner, and we call it mac-and-cheese. What, you guys don't have Kraft Dinner down there? Something else, we canucks have that you might not and that is Klik. It's our version of Spam. Still tastes like very salty shit. But, when you're out camping or on a fishing trip, hard to be beat it with a couple eggs over easy!
  18. Upload them to Photobucket, then just copy the IMG codes and paste them here. Hey Cyg, what the heck is Cinncinati chili? I might have to try that one... not in Cincinnati though, in Canada. Can you lay down the ingredients for me?
  19. Uh... okay, I apologize in advance for grossing anyone out.. but tonight I had Kraft Dinner and fried Spam, with ketchup on everything. And, I actually finished it... now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the outhouse.

Actually, hang on for just one second there Cyg'ster... ! You said that Different Strings was a weak song? I disagree! Check out Big Al's harmonics in that tune.. and the solo at the end. Hugh Syme's piano parts... wicked! It was of the first songs too, where Geddy sang in a lower register and - sounded great! So there!

Too much music for vinyl but on my iPod, it's all one big album anyway. Lots of CA in today's mix for some reason, The Seeker, too - a great song. PeW has two "weak" tracks, imo. I'm one of the heretics who isn't a nut for JL. :o Cool riff to play and a nifty song to count to, but it is just a mediocre song to me. I recall reading/hearing sometime back that they didn't like they way it sounded live (I presume mixed with the rest of the material in the show). If that is true, I don't expect it anytime soon. And, I can only theorize it is a bit of a downer with a moderate rhythm and it is quite lengthy. They've done everything from PeW except Different Strings, at least I've never seen them do it live - which is too bad, I really like that song - but it is a weaker track on the album. A testament to how good the songs are on the rest of the album. TSOR and Freewill are staples and I always want to see them. Fantastic to see Entre Nous get some love last tour. NatSci is wonderful and wonderful and wonderful. Moving Pictures is in a different league. The opening side is a barrage with no rest. The texture on the second side is gorgeous. The Camera Eye! The focus is sharp in the city. Race the oncoming night and flow through streets of the city. Geddy's and Alex's tones during Alex's second solo are astounding. So round. So beefy. Witch Hunt slows a bit but lyrically is devastating - just think of how many great lyrics are contained in that 4+ minutes. Vital Signs. Again, that stellar tone and lyrically succinct. Geddy, Alex and Neil in their prime. You can mess with a classic, TBR, but why would you want to mess with MP or PeW? ;) Oyay, Cyg... "them there's fattin' words." Jacob's Ladder could be THE best Rush song ever. I think I'll have to challenge on that one... (You're still cool though.)

    MP vs PeW

Okay, Cygnus, you're staring to make me think this one through one more time... how about if we take The Camera Eye, remove it from MP and simply add it to PeW? Now, THAT would be THE best SOB of an effing dad gum, gosh dang it Rush album! See, I'm waaaaaaaaaaaay smarter than I think I thought I was!

    MP vs PeW

Gotta be PeW. Listen to Jacob's Ladder and Natural Science again. Un effing believable.
  24. I don't have a PHD, so I don't know what the album is all about. What I DO know, is that it's a wicked album... all of it. Too bad Gabriel left after that one...
  25. I don't have any tatts... I'm not married. And, I'm a dude. So, I guess I'm not being much help. But, HOLY SHIT - talk about tattoos! I get the feeling you're a Rush fan... and them some. Wow.
