  1. When singing along with The Garden, I substitute 'it is what it is' with 'for all intents and purposes'. It makes just as much sense...which is absolutely none.
  2. The only thing in common with the 2 songs is that I'm not fond of either. In fairness I just gave both a listen back to back. If tortured into picking one or the other I'd go with Cold Fire. Cold Fire - the 'he said, she said' lyrics are just....icky. Hard to believe that the same lyricist that came up with 2112 and Hemispheres wrote this. The chorus is not too bad. The guitar work is pretty good. The solo is what saves the song. Little surprise this song hasn't seen the light of day in concert...it's pretty much just filler. The (Train) Wreckers - total fluff. The only thing redeeming about this song is that the bridge is somewhat interesting. If an average guitar player like me can figure out the next chord progression the first time through, then there's not much interesting to listen to. Reminds me of some of the filler songs on Test for Echo. Little surprise that Alex didn't put much solo into this: 'eh...why bother?' I guess every song can't be Clockwork Angels or Headlong Flight.
  3. * sigh * I guess we'll have to hear The (Train) Wreckers in concert. That's a waste of 4-5 minutes in the set list. There's so much better material than that song. I'll use that song to give myself a 'sit down' break.
  4. Signals minus Countdown plus Vital Signs. Done. I win.
  5. Sure I'd like to hear it, but I'd prefer Xanadu. Xanadu would actually sound interesting with strings IMO. One thing you need to consider is that it's another long song...and there are a bunch of long songs in their catalog. They could probably trim some of the instrumental part in the middle to cut the time down. I agree that the different time signatures in the song make it difficult, especially if they hadn't played it in a while. This one could sound like a train wreck if it's not perfect.
  6. I hope they give a good lighting treatment to CA in concert. That song could be absolutely trippy.
  7. Time to drop 2112. I love it, but it's been played to death. Pull some other tunes from the archives to fill the spot...Xanadu or Test for Echo would be my preferance.
  8. Hmm...I guess I'm not the only one on the forum nazi's poo list. Empty Mindless Spectre...I don't share the enthusiasm you have for The Wreckers, but I'll respect your choice and leave it at that. Alot of these arguments is like arguing about who has the best pizza. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter. We still buy the albums, go to the concerts, enjoy the music (to varying degrees) and the boys have fun and get well paid. Take a good look around at the concert...not everyone is air drumming like a dork, but they're still enjoying the music. Respect people with different opinions...it's not like they slapped your mama.

Go away forum nazi

  11. Halo Effect does have the mid tempo, folky feel to it that SnA had. But the song refers to being overly enamored with someone and putting them on a pedistal (remember that special untouchable girl we all had in our lives guys?). So the song fits within the story concept of CA. I said it on her before and I'll say it again...I enjoy Halo Effect more than The Garden. Shorter, more concise and doesn't have the need to go over the top. Each to his own.
  12. You can get rid of Pussy Riot by taking Penicillin
  13. I have a hunch they'll play more instrumentals to give Geddys voice more of a break. I'm fine with that. Whether that effects their S&A selections remains to be seen.
  14. I wouldn't mind if they don't play 2112 and finally put it to rest. Fit something else into the set that hasn't been done in a while. When they started to mock 2112 with 'the pirates' version, it's a sign they're bored to death with it. I know the argument against this: ooo, ooo it will be 2112 with STRINGS! meh.
  15. Yes they all probably cheated like any guy in their 20s seeing a lot of hot tail on tour. But they also pooped their diapers when they were babies. So I think we should hold that against them as well. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
  16. QUOTE (A rocket that ignites itself @ Jun 30 2012, 05:36 PM) Really really good album...quite possibly great with some time for it to breathe. Such a great time to be a fan of a band still creating killer material at this point of their career. An interesting story and concept...including some songs that could be all-time classics. That said, the term "masterpiece" seems like a quite a stretch though. yep agree
  17. Hmm I give my opinion to a question that was asked and I get a response similar to the angry crowd from the beginning of Witch Hunt (He said "Guitar Center"! Burn him at the stake!). I'm just providing my opinion based on the musical structure of the song...a little more precise than 'it rawks!' Each to his own, but lots of other people in the forum are not fond of the song either. Bangster, I hear what you say. It's definately not about 'note flash'. Heck one of my favorite Alex solos is Bravado, which is simple but very moving and powerful. But I'm not hearing anything special about this song. Compared to Caravan, CA and Headlong Flight, this song doesn't come close. I actually like Halo Effect (an even simpler song to play) better than Seven Cities of Mold. Perhaps the attraction to this song for some people is that it is simpler to listen to than the other CA songs. If you like cheeseburgers over filet mignon, so be it. My reference to Guitar Center was that a beginning guitar student could play most of this song. I guess that reference was lost on some people. The last time I was in Guitar Center was a year ago to buy a PA for our business. Seems like other people know a lot more about Guitar Center than I do, so I wonder who the real GC trolls are. People, show a little class to other people on here who have different opinions than your own. I was hoping that Rush fans were more intelligent and open minded but instead, the forum is turning into high school cafeteria all over again.
  18. I first remember seeing the 2112 album on Columbia House record club advertisements as a teen in the 70s. That caught my eye since my childhood house was 2112 First St. (no lie, my sister still lives there). Later in high school I started buying albums as I could afford them and remember seeing the ATWAS album in the store. Since it was a double album, it was kind of expensive for my budget at the time. But I remember thinking "Hmm not sure I'm going to like this album, but damn that stage setup kicks ass so it's gotta rock!". As soon as I heard Bastille Day, I was hooked. Not only the power but the complex musicianship in the album (who the heck changes keys 5 times in the middle of the guitar solo?!?). I had alot of classical music training as a kid, but I was starting to play guitar and explore rock more (because, well classical is just not cool at all) and Rush was the perfect band for me and still is.
  19. I'd like to hear it, but I have a feeling it won't make the cut since it's kind of long. The hardcore fans would probably like it, but the occassional fan wouldn't even recognize it.
  20. I really don't need to hear Time Stand Still again. Nice 'ok' song but I'm over it. Countdown is total cheesy fluff, so I'd be really disappointed if they played that.
