  1. Any Rush fan who unfortunately passed away between the release of Caravan/BU2B and the full album. It must've happened.

    Vapor Trails

Right or wrong, good or bad, first flac player I got and was able to use was foobar2000. I used it to convert the flac files to wav files. For each one, it said there were "major problems." I haven't listened to every song all the way through, but I haven't noticed any problems in what I've listened to so far. I imported the wav files into iTunes, and all seems well so far. Am I good? EDIT Yes, I am a noob. Using iTunes to convert the wav files to aac files, so they're not such space hogs on my 16gb nano. Still sounding good to me. And still have the flac files on my pc. Any advice still appreciated.

    Vapor Trails

Just set myself up with a flac player. Man, Secret Touch sounds so much better! Any way to get these in a version I can put in iTunes so I can have it on my iPod? I listen to that in my car. I am SO loving this!

    The Anarchist

QUOTE (Slack jaw gaze @ Jun 16 2012, 09:34 PM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jun 15 2012, 11:51 AM)Has anyone heard "The Pedlar" repeat ("What do you Lack?") again at :35 during the intro. I only heard it through headphones. I was wondering about that. Now that you mention it, I believe it is the Anarchist repeating the question rhetorically "What do I lack?", since the song is in his words (and since this is what the liner notes say). WALKING AMONG THE PEOPLE - who are so content, so blind - the Anarchist hears the pedlar's call, and sneers derisively. "What do I lack? Ah ... vengeance?" These lyrics brilliantly summarize so many angry people: The lenses inside of me that paint the world black The pools of poison, the scarlet mist, that spill over into rage The things I've always been denied An early promise that somehow died A missing part of me that grows around me like a cage The playing is fantastic by all 3. This is an all-time top 10 Rush song to me. I relate to those lyrics. Not out of anger, but out of despair.
  5. What I like about CA -- and why I like Rush overall -- is the atypical lyrics. I like that their songs aren't the drivel about hooking up/breaking up that most music is. That stuff is just such mindless dreck. For me, the CA songs are quickly becoming "well known friends." When I play my Rush playlist on random, and a CA song comes up, it fits right in.

    Wrong lyrics

So I was just googling for a section of the lyrics to The Anarchist, and the top three results on Google all have flat-out wrong lyrics! It's kind of amusing, but they're still wrong. I'm annoyed by it, but not enough to register for a site just to fix the lyrics... although on some I see no way of correcting them. Gems like these: QUOTE The lenses inside of me that paint the world black, The booze of boys in the scarlet mist that's billowed into rage, QUOTE I'd like me smiles in a diamond; I'd like me happiness in love. I'd like me all those things I'd never got my fair share of, my fair share of... I'm sure there's equally funny mistakes in other lyrics... I've seen some with sections marked as "indistinguishable." WTF? The album is out, WITH the lyrics! I'd just hate to praise this album to someone, who goes looking for lyrics and sees that crap.

    BU2B2

QUOTE (Chicken hawk @ Jun 16 2012, 08:22 PM) Why BU2B Twice on the album. #2 and #10 ( 10 being a shorter version). It's a reprise, part of the story... Interesting the contrast, given how hard BU2B is. I like the combo of the strings and Geddy's vocals on BU2B2.
  8. It saddens me that many people will never hear this song because it's, you know, "Rush." And the way music is these days... ugh. Maybe some people like crap because it's all they're ever fed.
  9. Love, love, LOVE Double Agent. Musically, lyrically, everything about it.

    BU2B2

It might be an "odd" tune, but lyrically, for me... well, it really is where I am in my life at the moment... in the wake of divorce, loss of friends, of family, home... There's a lot of lyrics on this album that hit me square and hard.
  11. QUOTE (GeddyLeeRoth @ Jun 15 2012, 08:57 PM) Thats the first thing I noticed when I popped it in. If this topic is already started, forgive me. If not, let the shit start.... So freakin' what? If that's the "first thing" you noticed, you weren't noticing the right things. Geez.

    Vapor Trails

I may check that out. Guess I'll need a flac player however. Never messed with such files. Sure they're safe? In the meantime, I went and ordered Vapor Trails. Also grabbed the only other studio albums I didn't have, the original and Caress of Steel. Got all three for virtually free, thanks to some credit card cash back.

    Vapor Trails

Don't have the Rio CD. I have the DVD, tho. I should look into that. Usually prefer studio versions over live versions - I don't need to hear the audience cheering - so my live recording collection is slim, just Time Machine and S&A. But Rio could be worth it for the VT songs. Might go ahead and get VT now, along with the only two studio releases I'm missing - the first, and Caress of Steel.

    Vapor Trails

First - I really like Vapor Trails. I have a burned copy and want to get a "real" CD. I did that for Test for Echo and Snakes and Arrows this week. But... should I get a copy now, or wait for the remaster? Is it coming? Do we know for sure? Any idea when? Worth having the reg version anyway, flaws and all? It'll probably at least come in a real jewel case, with the lyrics booklet. Who knows what the remaster will be like, if it comes at all.

    Headlong Flight

Definitely a strong song on the album, and one that was well capable of being pulled out of the broader story and standing on its own. Wonder why they felt the need to release a third single in advance of the album, after we've had Caravan and BU2B for so long.

    A question of case

You and I, we'll take care of them, they'll last intact longer, sure. But in time, the paper/cardboard is going to degrade in ways a solid plastic jewel case will not. It may get frayed at the edges, discolored from exposure to moisture, light, etc. The used copy of SnA I saw was cracked and banged up. My used copy of My Fav Headache isn't so hot either, although the disc is good. Jewel cases are more durable, and are more easily replaced. I've done that for a few older Rush ones where they got scuffed up and kind of hazy. I was able to put all the artwork in the new case and bang, good as new, nothing lost. Being recyclable is not a plus for me. I wouldn't want to ever get rid of it. I buy physical media to keep.

    A question of case

I'm sure I'm with the majority here who bought CA on physical media because we like the band so much. You would think those who produce the product would know that those interested in buying something like CA on physical media would want it to be durable. Yet we get a cardboard/paper case, not a real jewel case. It's not all bad... at least there is a plastic tray in there for the disc to be held in. It's not as bad as, say, Feedback, where the disc is just slipped inside a paper sleeve, not held in by anything, and can just fall right out. But it's still not going to hold up over time. For instance, same day I got CA, I went looking for Test for Echo and Snakes and Arrows. I got a nice used copy of TfE, original not remastered, that was in great condition, in a jewel case. Store had two copies of SnA. The used one looked like crap, because of the paper case. Fortunately there was a new one. I had both downloaded from iTunes, but I wanted the discs. The other problem are where discs have to slide in and out of (sometimes tight) cardboard or paper sleeves, which can lead to scratches. I've seen this with Rush CDs and DVDs. For some of those, I've gotten jewel cases. For some the booklet will fit into the case, but I still don't like losing the artwork. So, any case solutions for cases that just suck? And what do you do about artwork?
  18. QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ Jun 14 2012, 10:37 AM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 14 2012, 09:17 AM) Usher can suck my... anyway, I don't get why crappy music seems to have unrelenting popularity. I guess I never will. "Some people like crap!" Remember goober, quality and popularity are two totally unrelated things. Besides, quality in art is undefinable anyway. Reminds me how when I was in Best Buy getting my copy of CA (and they had a TON), Lady Gaga (aka googoo, gagme) was playing in the store. Made a comment to the woman at the register that it felt good buying real music while crap was playing. ... when she didn't crack a smile, I apologized just in case she likes Gaga.... although perhaps my apology was aimed at possibly her bad taste in music.
  19. QUOTE (Earthshine @ Jun 14 2012, 02:27 AM) A lot of the chord changes, rhythms and vocal lines make this album almost sound like My Favorite Headache, which I love. In fact, this could almost be a Geddy solo album I hear so much Geddy influence in it. Gotta agree with the OP here. To me, "The Garden" sounds like it could've come off of My Favorite Headache, which I also enjoy.
  20. Not an audiophile, don't have high end equipment. Not listening for tech, listening for the music. And I'd tend to think music is by its nature "imperfect." You can only polish something so much before the polishing action itself becomes damaging. I like what I hear.

    Will you??

I bought the fanpack - got the shipping notice June 1 and it arrived here in the USA on June 9. Not bad for coming across the Atlantic! And I bought the regular release CD at Best Buy on Tuesday. Well worth the extra $9.99! Oh, and HI from a longtime lurker and first-time poster!
