  1. QUOTE (wiscel @ Jun 8 2012, 08:39 AM) I am really thinking Rush is making a big mistake by playing at the Ziggo in Amsterdam instead of good old Ahoy in Rotterdam. The reasons: Ziggo is twice as big as Ahoy, 15000 capacity compared to 7000. Last 2 times Rush played in Holland Ahoy wasnt sold out. Amsterdam is also a lot further away from Belgium than Rotterdam. Since Rush never plays in Belgium Im not sure if the belgian fans want to drive further to see Rush play. And last, the price. Prices are getting stupendously high. Tickets are now 40 euros (50 usd) higher since they played here last time. I'm hearing lots of complaints of Rush fans who will not be going because of this, me included. Seriously. Amsterdam is like the Las Vegas of Western Europe. People, especially rockers, are always looking for a reason to visit.
  2. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Jun 9 2012, 11:44 AM)QUOTE (The K Man @ Jun 9 2012, 10:13 AM) Well, that's an unfair standard since the great majority of their songs were played originally back in the day, but if you want to go with what songs were played that had either never been played or not in at least 10 years (which I think is a fair cutoff), we can go with: VT tour: Distant Early Warning, New World Man, The Pass, Between Sun and Moon, By-Tor, Cygnus X-1 and Working Man (7) R30 tour: Between the Wheels, Mystic Rhythms and Xanadu (3) - this tour is obviously the one exception of the last four, as this set WAS fairly similar to the VT set list, with the exception being a handful of covers and songs like BTW, Mystic Rhythms, Force Ten, Xanadu and Animate, plus the R30 Overture S&A tour: Digital Man, Entre Nous, Mission, Circumstances, Witch Hunt and A Passage to Bangkok (6) TM tour: Time Stand Still, Presto, Stick It Out, Marathon and The Camera Eye (5) Now, 10 years could be considered an arbitary cutoff, but I think when you factor in the must-play songs (Tom Sawyer, The Spirt of Radio, etc.), and the amount of new songs they often play, I'd say they have done a pretty damn good job in the last 10 years of pulling out some deep cuts and/or songs that hadn't been played in a while or even never (the R30 tour being the exeption). There is simply no way for Rush to change their set from top to bottom from tour to tour. But we can agree to disagree on this. We can agree to disagree, but I maintain that the core of my argument is that they don't need to keep devoting over half the set list to the same songs they've been playing for 20-30 years. The show will survive the lack of Limelight if it means playing something they haven't busted out before. We can do without Subdivisions for the 3,000th time if it means playing something we haven't heard before, or haven't heard in 20 years. But they won't do that, because that's not the kind of risk they want to take. They play it safe with the set list so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of the fans that only show up to hear Tom Sawyer There are fans who are young enough that they didn't attend their first Rush show until Test For Echo or Vapor Trails, but now they've seen a few tours - maybe they don't care to hear Spirit of Radio for the fifth time, but would like to hear something that hasn't been played since the 80's or early 90's, like Show Don't Tell or something. In fairness, w/o Limelight, Subdivisions, Spirt, TS... Those songs are part of the reason RUSH still exists. W/o the the classics, it ain't a RUSH show. How many diehards (I only want B sides and CA fans) are members on this forum? What't the combined attendance of all the shows on the tour - minus 1% for people who attend multiple shows? It's pretty selfish to want the show to be just for the diehard RUSH 'nerds'. It's a ROCK show and we want to hear Classic Rock + some great new music.
  3. QUOTE (ALifeson85 @ Jun 5 2012, 12:06 PM) Is how vocally demanding it would be for Geddy. First off, there are NO instrumentals on CA...so for Geddy to have to sing for over and hour straight, esp. since some of the new songs DO sound a bit vocally demanding, would KILL his voice. I can MAYBE see them splitting up the entire album, in 2 - 3 song suites throughout the show, with older songs and instrumentals in between...but for them to perform the ENTIRE album in one straight shot...like I sayed - there is no way Geddy would be able to handle that, imo. Still though - I'm LOVING the new album, and I'm sure we will still be hearing LOTS of stuff from CA on the upcoming tour I love the album and I hope you're right.
  4. QUOTE (fordgt99 @ Jun 9 2012, 07:44 AM) Maybe it's just me but there's no way I'd pay more than $12 for a cd just to support a local store. Might be a reason why so few exist. Seriously? You know, you can't take it $$ with you.
  5. QUOTE (Kelly D @ Jun 9 2012, 11:41 AM) Forever 21 has John 3:16 printed on their bags. The whole "subtly pushing Christianity on our customers" kinda creeps me out, frankly. What about pushing Milkshakes?

RUSH has moved past the days of only being able to get SCTV talent, but let's face it, they're not getting A-List talent either, (wouldn't want Tom Cruise anyway) -- however, who are some interesting faces you picture playing the main character? Hero: Jay Baruchel, Justin Long Anarchist: Brad Dourif, Elias Koteas The Girl: Grace Park, Summer Glau The Watchmaker: Saul Rubinek, John Noble Who the heck are these people? Brad Dourif was in 1975's One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (playing Billy Bibbit) with Jack Nicholson, and as Wormtongue in The Lord Of The Kings: The Return Of The King, and an episode of The X-Files. Summer Glau played Cameron, a female Terminator in Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles (TV series). Saul Rubinek played a toy collector in a Star Trek: The Next Generation episide, called: The Most Toys. I don't know what else he was in. The others - I have no idea... Grace Park was in Battlestar Galactica. John Noble is Dr. Walter Bishop on Fringe. Elias Koteas... There's a great web service called 'Google' you may have heard of it. I would also recommend Imfdb.http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Main_Page I thought the girls would go over big, given that RUSH has big crossover with SciFi fans.
  8. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jun 9 2012, 10:09 AM) Anyone else catch the nod to In N Out in the liner notes? When the Bible Proverb is quoted on Clockwork Angels it says: *Proverbs 3:5 [and In-N-Out milkshake!] Truly proof that Neil is now a California guy all the way. For those not in California IN N Out is THE place to go for the best Cheeseburger in the state. Kind of the White Castle of the West Coast. It is also owner by a Christian family and the bottom of the box for fries and cups for shakes has Bible passages Good stuff Neil.... I've already orders my In n Out t-shirt to wear to the next show. I have to order it because after 43 years and 20 + RUSH shows in the sunshine state, I now live in Illinois. There's an outfit here called SMASH burger here, that's comparable with great fries. Also Five Guys, but I'm not a big fan of them. And NYC has the Shake Shack. Still, In N Out, the best in the west.

  10. QUOTE (drgrendel @ Jun 7 2012, 11:33 AM) Dear Lord, I know that I have not been the best, but please, no full CA on this tour....PLEASE?????????????????????????????????? My guess is the the majority of the folks attending the upcoming shows will not have listened to anything from CA - a string of CA tunes together will just have unpeasant consequences - IMO of course. I think it's great that people like the album (as do I) and I want to hear some of the new stuff live. SOME. I would like them to stick the old policy of 6 new songs. But I think they'll push it. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I just want a good balanced show. A little new, a little 90s, 80s, 70s.
  11. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 7 2012, 08:03 AM) As much as I'm really digging CA, I'd have to disagree. I'd be cool with them playing about 7-8 songs from it...but the catelog is just so huge. I also think they should break them up as well...like perform them in pairs: Caravan/BU2B Clockwork Angels/The Anarchist Seven Cities of Gold/The Wreckers Headlong Flight/The Garden That way, you get a nice mix with plenty of new material for us all to enjoy, but leaves breathing room for all the past material. The reason I say this is simply because there are WAY too many other amazing songs that I'd also love to hear. I want a nice mix of everything on this tour's setlist, if possible! Now...if they'd be willing to ramp the shows up to 4 HOURS...then we're talking! I'm no casual fan. First show was Signals. 8 songs + Hope on S&A L1 was pushing it. 6 is the usual number of new songs. With the positive reaction to S&A 8 might be expected.
  12. This thread keeps getting in the way. I'm going to pour beer on it.
  13. QUOTE (Terrapin @ Jun 5 2012, 09:17 PM)Absolutely dreadful "Producer" Why is he a producer? Who is he? Why are the Rush boys putting their collective faith in this compression happy, grunge loving idiot? Terry Brown anyone? Every "producer" since has been a mistake, hence the continual search. Perhaps Terry is the Watchmaker... Couldn't be any worse. He's good enough for my favorite musicians, RUSH. What else is there? You're not hiring him. It's not your band. It's not your studio or your album. You're not affiliated with RUSH in a creative or professional manner. Your opinion on their staff and collaborations is meaningless. Irrelevant. And quite moronic because you think it matters what you think.
  14. Yes the sound quality of download songs is low. Might we suspend further discussion of the "mix" until we actually hear it as intended via the CD.
  15. QUOTE (samurai1993 @ Jun 5 2012, 08:17 PM) Lovin' the egiptian/asian scale that they added at certain moments of the songs. The solo is gorgeus and exotic, the lyrics beatiful and for me is the song with most flow of the album, the lyrics just go on like butter! p.s: If you remember the fancy mics that they had in their mic stands during the Time Machine tour; those are copperphones and give a distorted/mid focussed tone. In the tour they used them for recording the crowd sounds, wondering if they recorded the distorted/low fi voices in the album with them, or that was post-production in the studio Has someone with the fan pack scanned the lyrics yet?
  16. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Jun 5 2012, 09:25 PM) QUOTE (XXXB0BXXX @ Jun 5 2012, 10:22 PM) Is it really proggy? I'm abstaining from listening, but I've heard some comments that it's not proggy at all and in the vein of recent Rush, while some of you say it's very proggy, even the proggiest thing since Natural Science. I sure hope it's got some prog to it. There's some prog mixed into the pot. I always thought that POT was one of main creative ingredients in Prog.
  17. Cheer up, fellas. It's a done deal, I already made some calls. I know a guy who knows a guy. We're gonna have a siddown with Mr. Grammy and make him an offer he can't refuse... if you know what I mean.
  18. QUOTE (Deckiller @ Jun 4 2012, 09:36 PM) Many reasons. (1) Geddy Lee let it loose this album. The bass is primus quality. (2) The songs flow, like you said. (3) The lyrics work. They're not cheesy. (4) The drums are loose without getting too flashy. Good balance. (5) Geddy doesn't oversing as much as he did on Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows. (6) There is a lot of depth on this album. Lots of cool sound effects and little nuggets that help divert us from Lifeson's wall of sound. (7) The album is -driving-: it's constantly propelling forward, for the most part. It's a lot like Grace Under Pressure. A RUSH masterpiece in other words...

  21. QUOTE (Deckiller @ Jun 4 2012, 08:06 PM) Here's another option: do what Dream Theater did in the mid 90s with A Change of Seasons and split the concept album into three parts! Start with three classics, then Malignant Narcissism, then play Caravan through The Wreckers. Come back and start with Headlong Flight, BU2B2, and Wish Them Well. 3 more classics, then the drum solo, then The Garden, then The Spirit of Radio and 2112 to close out the 2nd set. And then 3 great songs for the encore. Maybe something like this: Tom Sawyer The Enemy Within Subdivisions Malignant Narcissism Caravan BU2B Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Carnies Seven Cities of Gold The Wreckers Set 2: Headlong Flight BU2B2 Wish Them Well Cold Fire Drum Solo The Garden 2112 Overture/Temples of Syrinx Freewill YYZ The Spirit of Radio Encore: Limelight Witch Hunt Finding My Way/In the Mood Dude, that is one awesome set list, I must say. We have similar tastes in RUSH music. I would only substitute Witch Hunt - we've got it two tours in a row, last tour is was part of the featured album. I would like to get Trees or Xanadu back in the rotation. Also, there's been hints at a nod toward Signal. I wouldn't mind an New World Man/Digital Man/Analog Kid medley.
