  1. When I first bought this I thought it was Alex too, but it's actually Tommy Shaw from Styx. Have no idea why it ended up there, but someone obviously got confused. Doesn't even sound like Alex (though I did not really know that at that time.) Not sure what you're talking about. Tommy Shaw wasn't there. Max Webster opened for Rush, 3/1/1981. At that time, Tommy Shaw would have still been with Styx. Where does your info come from?
  2. What song was it? Oh, sorry. It's a really good acoustic that's about 90 seconds or so long. No title. I actually haven't listened to this for a couple decades because I haven't had a turn-table. Even still, the song remains in my head!
  3. First, I want to thank The Cat 3 for posting this. This sort of thing helps a little bit in taking my mind off other things. Those things matter, certainly. But lately? Geesh, it all just keeps piling on. 1: First Rush Album You Bought? "All The World's A Stage"> This was actually the very first album of any musical group/artist that I ever bought. (Steve Martin came first.) My friend had played Rush albums for me at his house and that included "2112". I wanted to buy "2112" but the store I was at (Zayre) didn't have it. Then I saw that the album "All The World's A Stage" did have 2112 on it. My naive self didn't realize that an album titled "All The World's A Stage" would be a LIVE album. So I was surprised when I played it. I remember thinking how cool all those photos of Rush on the three-fold were. 2: The Rush Album That Got You Hooked? "Hemispheres" as that had "The Trees" on it. I'd heard "Spirit of Radio" on the radio but it was when my friend played "Hemispheres" (he went straight to "The Trees" first) that I really took notice. I'd wanted to be a writer and reading the lyrics to "Trees" made me realize that Rush wasn't just another "boy meets girl song" band. 3: First Rush Studio Album You Bought? I'm pretty certain it was "2112" once I found it. The other possibility is "Fly By Night". The original, "Rush" was given to me by a kid at school. "Caress" I bought much later at Montgomery Ward. "A Farewell To Kings" came later too. I remember being worried about buying "Hemispheres" because of Mr. Naked Guy on the cover and I wasn't sure what my parents would do if they saw that. So I can't remember when I ended up buying "Hemis". I asked my Mom to get "Permanent Waves" for me when she was going to KMart. I was kidding around with her because I didn't think she would even know where in the store to look for albums. She surprised me when she actually did buy it for me and came home with it! Incidentally, I actually got "2112" on 8-Track tape from Venture. 4: First Rush Live Album You Bought? "All The World's A Stage" 5: First Rush Compilation You Bought? "Rush Through The Years" 6: First Rush Studio Album You Bought On Release Day? "Moving Pictures", followed by every next Rush album on it's Release Day. 7: First Rush Bootleg That Blew You Away? The first one I ever bought, "Rush 'N Roulette". This was recorded at Chicago's International Ampitheater on the Moving Pictures tour. They played 4 nights. The recording is from the night after I was there. I love the part on it where Alex takes the microphone and announces something to the sort of, "You know, I've always felt that people who come see us live, they've always deserved something a little bit extra. I'm gonna play this song, it's never been performed live before, never been recorded. It's just for those of you who came tonight." When he says "never been recorded" you can hear the girlfriend of the guy who was recording start giggling. Love it!
  4. Mine still says "Status: In Progress" along with the Perm 40 2cd set. I need my Arf 40 now! (All my t-shirts are dirty.)
  5. Rush once again made it onto Jeopardy. Today (as I write this) Wednesday, June 10th, 2020. The category was "3 NAMES IN CLASSIC ROCK" The $1200 answer was: "THE LATE, GREAT NEIL PEART JOINED GEDDY LEE & ALEX LIFESON IN THIS BAND IN 1974" The contestant, Joanna, knew her Rush! This was actually the last "answer" reached in the Double Jeopardy round. And yes, Alex Trebek knows how to pronouce "Peart".
  6. Wow, after all these years, I'm still learning new things concerning Rush. Thanks for posting, RushFanForever. Cool!
  7. Bought the Arf. Thanks for posting about this. I went straight over and got it and the Perm40 set.
  8. Bytor and Snowie. Necro gets a point taken away because of the narration. I'd like to hear a new recording of the narration over the rest of the song. Maybe God himself, Morgan Freeman. Or Darth V, James Earl Jones. Or Homer, Dan Castellaneta: "Only their thirst for Duff Beer gives them hunger for vienna sausages. Hmmmmm. Sausages."
  9. Thank you for posting the vid. I didn't hear his voice either, but it was nice to see him there with his pooch.
  10. The only reason I could ever come up with as to why they didn't perform "Cut To The Chase" live, is because Hugh Syme played a little bit of piano on the album version. It's not much, and it's toward the end of the song, but it may have been enough piano that the guys decided they "couldn't reproduce it live" the way they would want to. "Cut To" is a fantastic song and that guitar solo is absolute kick ass.
  11. A long time ago I went through all the known tour lists and made a list of my own. It was of the songs that were played live but have never been released on a live album. I don't know when Rush started recording all their live shows, but in what they do have recorded, there has to be a number of songs which have never been on a live album. I sure wish someone with Rush would start going through all those recordings and that Rush would release an official album of all those songs. On the 2112 special release, a live version of "Twilight Zone" was included. Unfortunately, that recording plays just a notch too fast. It makes Geddy's high-pitch of 1976/77 sound all the higher. To me, that recording is bad. But it's existence tells me that "Twilight Zone" always existed live, so there's got to be a lot more. So would you all buy an album of live previously unreleased songs that aren't exactly the big hits? I know there are some of these songs on bootlegs, but those aren't official, well-produced releases.
  12. I'm surprised I never chimed in on this one previously. Here goes: 1. Headlong Flight 2. The Wreckers 3. Clockwork Angels 4. The Anarchist 5. Wish Them Well 6. Carnies 7. Caravan 8. BU2B 9. The Garden 10. Seven Cities of Gold 11. Halo Effect 12. BU2B2 For me, "Headlong Flight" just kicks major ass. Really brings Rush back to it's roots of the first 4 albums or so. This is one of my all-time Top 10 Rush songs. I know others will be wondering why I rate "The Garden" so low. Well, at least it's not last. I find the song just too depressing. It's not the most depressing on the album. That would be "BU2B2". I've commented before that I can't understand why Rush would follow "Headlong" with "BU2B2". "Headlong" is so out there. So joyous. So pumped up. Then "BU2B2" comes on and geesh... where's that Suicide Hotline number? (I don't mean to make light of such things. I suffer depression like so many others.) "The Garden" is the last song we'll ever get from Rush. Hopefully, Geddy and Alex will record together again, but it won't be Rush. So for "The Garden" to be the last song, and for it to be (to me) so depressing? I just can't rank it higher. Below that, "Seven Cities" just doesn't do anything for me and "Halo Effect" is too slow and a bit boring.
  13. So what? Geddy's posting on Instagram is supposed to impress us? I've been self-loathing for years! Oh, wait. Geddy is self-isolating. Sorry. Misread that. Good for Geddy. And wook at da widdle itty bitty pup-pups! Awwwww. Who's da good widdle pup-pups? Who's da good widdle pup-pups?!
  14. The ending, definitely. Not bad looking at ONJ from back then, either!
  15. Wow. You're absolutely right. Never noticed this. I'll always hear it from now on though!
  16. I hope someone recorded that Freemont Street tribute. That had to have been absolutely awesome. Thanks for posting this news.
  17. On a related note: I found myself wondering if Neil may have written anything at all concerning what he had been going through over the past three years. Something book-wise or possibly poetry/lyrics. Of all his favorite things "to do in life" - drumming, motorcycling, site-seeing - the one thing he would have been able to continue with would have been his writing. Such writings would certainly be so much different than what Neil's done previously. I've mixed feelings about my own thoughts on this.
  18. My spirits are low in the depths of despair My thoughts are of his young daughter, Olivia. So young to have to endure this. I'm so sorry and sad for his wife, his parents, his close friends. For us. But I am happy for Neil. He's beyond his pain now. Beyond his suffering. He's now seen his loved one, Jackie, again. He's been able to hug and hold her and their daughter, Selena. I can only try to imagine what he's already experiencing and the souls that he will be encountering. I've joked about this previously on these forums. Rush played my wedding reception. We had 17,000 guests. No, Rush didn't realize it and those 17,000 guests didn't know they were attending my reception. I married my also-Rush-loving wife on August 14th, 2010 in Las Vegas. That night, we attended the Rush concert at the MGM. That was in fact the last time we saw Rush in concert. I lost count of how many Rush concerts I saw all together. It started with the Moving Pictures tour at Chicago's Amphitheater. We didn't have the money to attend further concerts after Las Vegas. So it's sort of nice that we'll always be able to say that the last time we saw Rush was our wedding night. I hope that some day (many years from now) I'll be able to encounter Neil Peart in the Beyond, and thank him for his words, his music and for all that he and Rush has meant to me and done for me. And will continue to do for me. The artistry of Neil, Geddy and Alex and Rush will exist forever.
  19. I don't mind it at all when a Rush song gets stuck in my head. Actually, what happens with me, and this has been for literally decades now, is that I use two particular Rush songs to block out other songs that get in my head. My go-to songs are "Circumstances" or "Red Sector A". Don't know why it's those two songs, it just is. Even this morning I used "Red Sector A" to block out a song that is used in a commercial on the news radio station I listen to in the car. For some reason, this commercial uses the "Pina Colada Song". If you're not familiar with this song, then that's just wonderful for you! It's a terrible song (imo) from the late 1970s. Anyway, I didn't turn the station fast enough and that awful song got in my head and it would not leave. Well, Rush to the rescue. I started thinking "Red Sector A" and soon enough, that was playing in my head instead and the other song was gone. Alright Rush!
  20. I've been waiting years now for the Chicago Cubs to play the Jays in Toronto just to get a Geddy sighting. Finally, there are three games scheduled for next August 14th, 15th and 16th, 2020. That's Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Geddy got into baseball by watching Cubs games on WGN America during concert tours. Supposedly because there was nothing else to do. So I would think he'll be there for those. OH NO! WHAT IF RUSH IS TOURING THEN??? Thanks for posting this.
  21. I saw these bobbles yesterday and initially thought that Geddy looked like a young Keanu Reeves from the "Bill and Ted" days. The Alex looks a little bit like Alex from the 80s. (A very little bit.) I thought the Neil was the best, but yes, I can see Julio in there.
  22. Thank you for posting the link, blueschica. That was a great interview. I would have missed out on it otherwise. I'm only 50 miles away from that bookstore in Lincoln Park, but damn... No money, so I didn't go. Maybe some day I'll be able to come with the cash for the book.
  23. Geddy looks like my Grandmother. Seriously.
  24. I would love to be there, especially since I'm only 50 miles away, but as always - no money. Somebody here that's going, do me a favor. Ask Geddy if the "Hey Now!" from Headlong Flight is based on Hank Kingsley from The Larry Sanders Show. (Don't everybody jump to commit to this now.)
