  1. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 24 2012, 05:41 AM)Caravan - 9.5/10 BU2B - 9.5/10 Clockwork Angels - 10/10 The Anarchist - 9/10 Carnies - 8.5/10 Halo Effect - 6.5/10 Seven Cities of Gold - 8.5/10 The Wreckers - 9.5/10 Headlong Flight - 10/10 BU2B2 - 1/10 Wish Them Well - 9/10 The Garden - 10/10 Ok, I'm rating this album against itself, meaning the very best songs get a 10/10. If I try to use a universal rating system for songs that includes all Rush songs, I'll go crazy, as if Xanadu gets a 10, I couldn't give anything on this album a 10, but so many of the songs here are perfect or near perfect, that I can't give them less than a 9 or 10 anyway. If I ever decide to give numerical ratings to every Rush song, these numbers might go down SLIGHTLY when compared to songs from other albums, but still, this is pretty close and shows how incredibly strong this album is! I can't believe how good it is every time I listen to it! Is this the same Rushgoober who was dreading the release of CA a few weeks ago? Seriously, I'm glad you're liking it so much. CA really is amazingly consistent, as seen in your ratings. I hope Seven Cities grows on you. I know you like the debut, and for me Seven Cities really sounds like a modern take on What You're Doing or Working Man (Zeppelin-ish blues rock). It's become one of my top 2-3 tracks on the album.
  2. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 24 2012, 05:22 AM)Ok, I'll play: Caravan 2/10 BU2B 2/10 Clockwork Angels 4/10 The Anarchist 4/10 Carnies 5/10 Halo Effect 3/10 Seven Cities Of Gold 1/10 The Wreckers 4/10 Headlong Flight 4/10 BU2B2 1/10 Wish Them Well 1/10 The Garden 5/10 So better than anything they've released since Signals for me. Nice attention grab. I'm still waiting for Trenken and Gemini to weigh in with theirs: Caravan 0/10 BU2B 0/10 Clockwork Angels 0/10 The Anarchist 0/10 Carnies 0/10 Halo Effect 0/10 Seven Cities Of Gold 0/10 The Wreckers 0/10 Headlong Flight 0/10 BU2B2 0/10 Wish Them Well 0/10 The Garden 0/10

Can you rate Headlong Flight 5/10 and still be considered a Rush fan? To be a real Rush fan, you have to be able to criticize their best stuff. Look at metalsdad's posts about S&A. Right, hence the smiley. But a less than failing grade for HF? Seriously?

  5. Caravan - 9 BU2B - 8 Clockwork Angels - 10 The Anarchist - 9 Carnies - 8 Halo Effect - 9 Seven Cities of Gold - 10 The Wreckers - 9 Headlong Flight - 10 BU2B2 - 8 Wish Them Well - 8 The Garden - 10 The amazing thing about CA is the overall consistency of the songs. For me, there are no mediocre tracks to drag the album down like Good News First, Bravest Face, One Little Victory, Freeze, or most of TFE. And the good songs on CA are REALLY good. If you took the best 40 minutes of CA and cleaned up the mix , you would truly have an album to rival their classics: Caravan Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Halo Effect Seven Cities of Gold The Wreckers Headlong Flight The Garden

QUOTE (spock @ Jul 8 2012, 06:40 PM) QUOTE (Pause Rewind Replay @ Jul 8 2012, 05:10 AM) QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 2 2012, 01:59 PM) QUOTE (Todem @ Jul 1 2012, 02:46 PM) The main riff is a bad to the mother f***ing bone full on 70's classic Rush assault. I love the keyboard chords during the pre-chorus. And I really love the lyrics on this tune. "Glitter in the sun like a revelation" Distant as a comet or a constellation". Fricking bas ass! This song is going to cook and melt peoples faces on the tour. Seven Cities is kind of like What You're Doing 2012, IMO. OMG.... someone else made the What You're Doing connection!! Thought I was the only one getting that vibe. They Bow Defeated Over the years, Rush has shown they can when they want to. On rarer occasions, they get a little funky and But when you combine and , like they did on What You're Doing and now on 7 Cities, the result is a musical that makes you say "Ow!... hurt me again!" Great summary Todem Of all the songs on CA, Seven Cities takes me back to the original album more than any others - which is a good thing. It's still not my fave, but it's been growing on me (along with the Anarchist). Yup! I think if there's a "Making of CA" DVD, we may even find out that Nick challenged them to write something in the spirit of the first album and Seven Cities was the result. Just a hunch.

QUOTE (NYM86 @ Jul 19 2012, 06:18 PM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 19 2012, 06:14 PM) QUOTE (NYM86 @ Jul 19 2012, 04:32 PM) I'm not a fan of the song 2112, and Geddy can't really sing it anymore anyway. what would you rather here in it's place? The Color of Right. Make it happen boys! Uh, pass. I don't think we'll get anything from TFE this time, which would be fine with me.
  8. Come on, guys. How about some kittens? http://catscatscats18.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/cute-kittens1.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9fiIrkrCXQo/S21m_LL39RI/AAAAAAAAFYo/zmig4GA9Rb4/s400/cute-kittens.jpg http://im.glogster.com/media/3/10/40/42/10404247.jpg
  9. From your list, easily Dreamline. Others I don't need to see this time around are Red Sector A, Between the Wheels, and Witch Hunt. (Great songs, but seems like they've gotten lots of play lately.)
  10. Yikes, can't we all just get along? Wasn't meaning to bust anyone's balls. But the Headlong Flight/Bastille Day reference seemed so obvious that I had to point it out. Anyway, how about some cute pictures of puppies? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ANyca8Gyccg/TelM9B7JARI/AAAAAAAABas/4vN3rvUXfG0/s320/11.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cWfaFGC7rqo/TelM91ftViI/AAAAAAAABaw/juDfL_4Yo1E/s320/12.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1amDzvRv4cU/TelM2tCxcBI/AAAAAAAABac/Pnxc7tqfBY8/s320/13.jpg

  12. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 18 2012, 12:41 PM)Not chance. That wimpy voice can't do the early stuff justice. He could probably sing some Air Supply though. His voice has been ruining the music for years. :bullshit:
  13. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 18 2012, 06:37 PM) (here comes the juice) Snakes is awesome. And mixed well. And written with finesse. And let's not make this out like I don't like CA. It is just not as good as Snakes to me. If CA had the same sound quality as S&A ( which I admit it doesn't ) would you still prefer S&A? For me, CA is the clear winner in terms of songwriting, story, concept, lyrics, energy, and positivity. So for me that overcomes the admittedly poorer sound quality ( which is a crying shame ).
  14. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Jul 18 2012, 05:17 PM)QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 18 2012, 03:14 PM) Has anyone else noticed that Clockwork Angels, the track, seems to have the most issues with the mix? I can EQ all the other songs to get a pretty decent sound, but with CA I still struggle to get it dialed in. The heavy guitar tracks all seem to be either too muddy or too thin/brittle. And the Neil's toms don't have much definition during the chorus. It's not quite as bad on the vinyl, but still not good. yeah... It's frustrating, because it's still my favorite track musically and lyrically. With a decent mix and with a little more keys (Moog or Taurus pedals), CA would have been truly .

  16. QUOTE (pedro2112 @ Jul 15 2012, 10:53 PM) QUOTE (Ged Lent's sis @ Jul 15 2012, 05:51 PM) The only producer with a perfect record with RUSH is, well, I think we know the answer to that question The sucky sounding Signals says, "Hello." Overall, I still think Terry Brown produced the best-sounding albums. Terry Brown's albums sound more "analog," even Signals. Peter Collins' albums sound more "digital" and are more inconsistent: PoW and CP are exceptional, but HYF is pretty thin/digital and TFE is muddy and loud. Has anyone else noticed that Clockwork Angels, the track, seems to have the most issues with the mix? I can EQ all the other songs to get a pretty decent sound, but with CA I still struggle to get it dialed in. The heavy guitar tracks all seem to be either too muddy or too thin/brittle. 17. >>did CA suffer due to break in writing/recording? No, just the opposite. The newer tracks are by far my favorites, and I don't think it's just the honeymoon effect. I think these newer tracks do a better job of blending the new Rush sound with classic Rush from different eras: Clockwork Angels: 2112 meets VT The Anarchist: GUP/Signals meets VT Halo Effect: FBN meets CP Seven Cities Of Gold: Debut meets TFE The Wreckers: Presto meets CP Headlong Flight: COS/FBN meets CP The Garden: Presto meets CP Based on Caravan and BU2B, I was a little worried that CA would be a mostly heavy "new Rush" album. So I'm really glad the newer tracks are more diverse, and harken back to some of my favorite Rush eras.

Actually, it was pretty good...let's hear YOURS. But I never claimed to sing as well as Geddy on the Hemispheres tour and play bass as well as Geddy Lee or John Myung and then post videos to "prove" it. no, but you sure like calling him out on it.... Sorry, it's not often you see someone claiming to be as good as Geddy in his prime (and implicitly better than Geddy now) and trying to prove this by posting an 18 second video clip. That doesn't strike you as a bit ridiculous? I'm not going to get into this because I don't care (you do though)....but if I'm not mistaken, he said he could sing it better than Geddy could these days....which is likely true. Move on already.... No, not really... QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 2 2012, 08:58 PM)I did post a youtube vid of me singing Hemispheres. Not my problem you missed it chump. I hit the notes after hours of recording my own stuff with a tired voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eljJsLYbKjI I f**k up some notes in there from worn out vocals, but I can point you to some youtube vids of Geddy on the Hemispheres tour sounding far worse than what I recorded there if you like. On a Rush board where everyone sucks their cocks all day noone can be good at anything without being labelled as arrogant. The only people that say that are the ones that suck. f***ing hater. I guess if you cant sing their toughest stuff or play bass as good then you just hate on those that can, and Im a far better bassist than I am a singer.
