  1. QUOTE (Chicken hawk @ Mar 15 2011, 04:01 PM) What cancer?? He's talking about Dio....stomach cancer took his life a while back.
  2. Jann Wenner can suck my........ . . . . oh wait..........
  3. It ain't no HOF if Rush ain't in it!!
  4. And if you saw or heard the Zeppelin reunion show in '07 (many boots available) you know Robert Plant doesn't have nearly the range he did "back in the day". Hell, I saw Plant & Page in like '98 at the Hollywood Bowl and it was very apparent already at that point. Seen The Eagles lately? Frey's voice is not great anymore. Steven Tyler? Still pretty good but not as good as it used to be. Paul McCartney has his drummer sing the really high notes in his songs now (and I am an absolutely HUGE Beatles fan so not a criticism, just a fact). Ozzy? puhhhhhlease. If you haven't had a chance to see him on one of the first 5 stops on a tour in the last 25 years, his voice has been shit (again, BIG fan). It's why he plays here and there now rather than doing full blown tours. Ian Gillan? Nope. Dio before he died? Still good but some slippage. In fact, of all the male singers that are Geddy's contemporaries there's only one that, to my ears, still sounds as good as he did when he was a young man and that's Don Henley of The Eagles. He still sings at his young man full range and still has a really strong voice. There's a couple of other guys I've seen live within the last couple of years that are a half generation younger than Geddy that still are pretty amazing singers and they're Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Bruce Dickinson of Maiden and Halford of Priest. They are all still very strong from that half generation younger than Geddy crowd, but some or all of them may yet lose range and power. One thing I've found with singers is that it seems that women singers don't lose their range and power nearly as readily as men do (assuming no major abuse like long term smoking, heavy drinking, etc.) If you've seen Ann Wilson of Heart recently, you definitely know what I mean. Same goes for Pat Benetar. As you can see, I've given this subject a lot of thought and paid plenty of attention to all the singers 50+ years of age....hell, they're "my" bands as I'm 54 and grew up with all the classic rock bands. The thing is it really doesn't matter to me that Geddy can't hit those major high notes regularly anymore outside of the fact that we're unlikely to ever get to hear "Something For Nothing" or any of the other really high note songs again. To me, I think he still sounds good on the newer material which is no surprise since it's what fits him as a singer now. The older songs on which he strains are great to hear and musically still sound awesome. I long ago accepted that he's going to struggle a bit now and then on a few songs but that's part of the aging process. And let me tell you as a guy around his age, you aren't the same physically at 50-something as you were at 30-something. Lastly, there are people out there that actually like the newer Rush stuff better than the older because Geddy's voice isn't as high and "screechy" as it was in the old days. I know because I used to be married to a woman who had that opinion and other folks have expressed that to me as well. To each his own. I figure if you're into any era of Rush, it's a good thing.
  5. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ Mar 10 2011, 09:50 PM)QUOTE (umoveme @ Mar 10 2011, 12:49 PM)I also heard that Neil will play the drums really well!!! Sarcastic voice: "thanks a lot, now i know what to expect..." Hope I'm not gonna completely ruin it for you, but I gotta tell you that Alex is really good on guitar and Geddy kicks butt on bass too. Sorry, I just had to.....
  6. When I bought my Harley 2 years ago, I decided to take my first long vacation ride in August. I decided to ride to Reno, stay at a casino resort there, ride all the way around lake Tahoe one day while down there, then ride up to Spokane to vist family and finally back home to Vancouver, WA. I have 2 different trip meters on the bike and I used one to compute gas milage with each fill up and the other I set to zero when I left my house to see how many miles I rode for the entire trip. When I got back home and checked that meter I was most pleased to see that I had ridden 2112 miles total on the trip. Here's a pic of the bike at the top of the Mt. Rose highway between Reno and Lake Tahoe. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l225/hoser98629/August24RoadKingatthesummitofMtRosehighway.jpg

  8. QUOTE (jonboy71 @ Feb 22 2011, 02:52 PM) Has anyone received their musictoday presale tickets? I have not and last time I got tix through them (S&A Live tour) they didn't come until about a month before the show. In fact I happened to call them about 2 days before they actually sent them as I was getting a bit worried. I'm hoping the wait isn't as long this time. I'm 3rd row center in Portland and am DYING to have those tix in my hands. If anyone has received their musictoday tix, please let us know.
  9. QUOTE (Bastille Dave @ Feb 19 2011, 09:47 PM)QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Feb 19 2011, 01:33 PM) Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Fly By Night, and Working Man is about it. these and also Closer To The Heart and Subdivisions. Same 6 or 7, never any variation. Just once I'd like to hear something else like possibly The Trees or Analog Kid. These same ones for KGON in Portland, OR (both posts). Sure would like to hear some other stuff but then holds true for most classic rock stations in most markets. For example, Sweet Home Alabama is maybe THE most overplayed song in classic rock radio yet there are plenty of excellent Skynyrd songs that never get airplay.....e.g. On The Hunt.
  10. QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Feb 20 2011, 05:51 AM)QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Feb 19 2011, 05:36 PM) Portland's selling really, really well. The lower level is completely full (when searching for 2 tix) and the 2nd level has only seats clear on the outer edges available. Way to represent Oregon and S.W. Washington!! Dammit! I haven't been able to buy my tickets yet! Oh well, I have excellent tickets for the other shows I am seeing. Just looked again today Rushchick10. A bit better than the last time I looked......middle of the outermost upper reserved section rather than clear to the side of the outermost upper reserved section. Still well to the edge though. It appears that they are moving up the rows before going from inside out so I think that if you get one clear to the very edge and wait a day or two you'll get moved in just a bit. I also re-searched and tried specifying "center seating" under "additional" and there was nothing. Sorry you'll be toward one of the edges. Guess we're just kicking ass here!! Also, might want to act fairly soon if you don't want to be on the lawn.
  11. I feel your pain man. I'm sure those 2 whole rows in front of me in Portland on 6/28 will be a major inconvenience. Good thing I'm dead center or it might not even be worth the hassle of attending.

  13. I'm a Power Windows which is one of my 3 favorite Rush albums and was the first tour on which I saw the band live. The description seems generally accurate too. A very fun excersize and a great thread. Thanks so much for your efforts.
  14. QUOTE (cygnus_thegodofbalance @ Feb 14 2011, 10:14 PM) QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Feb 14 2011, 09:47 PM) [stirring the pot]Hmm...I don't think apostrophe's should have an apostrophe in it.[/stirring the pot] You're right Irony at its finest! It was done on purpose to see if anyone picked it up. You win.
  15. QUOTE (Kenneth @ Feb 14 2011, 02:47 AM) QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Feb 13 2011, 11:36 PM) QUOTE (Kenneth @ Jan 27 2011, 03:55 AM) 71 - A Passage to Bangkok I really don't like the lyrics, this is the Rush song that the big time stoner's have stolen, along with Tom Sawyer, just because the words smoke or high are used.. The guitar playing is really the only reason I'd listen to this song. 7.5/10 "The Rush song the big time stoners have stolen"?? Seriously dude? (by the way, the word "stoners" is plural and thus no need for the apostrophe as in your original post.....how'd that education work for ya man?). Um, do you get the double meanings of the entire song? Shit Neil wrote the lyrics as a stoner/marijuana song, it hasn't been "stolen" by stoners. Thus a line like "we only stop for the best". One other thing, Dreamline kicks ass and your rating for it is too low. Of course ratings are subject to personal opinion so that's just mine. Sorry. (BTW I have dyslexia... So be an ass hole, that's fine..) Dyslexia causes a person to read things and see words out of order/backwards and has nothing to do with placing an apostrophe where it doesn't belong. Apostrophe's indicate ownership of the subject that follows. For example, "Neil's drumkit kicks ass." The drumkit belongs to Neil. That was not the gist of my post and I admit to being a smart ass and I apologize. However, I stand by my original statement that you simply have not understood what Passage To Bangkok is about and that it was written from a "stoner's" point of view and not hijacked by stoners and taken as their own. I doubt Neil smokes much weed anymore, if he does at all, but it's obviously something he enjoyed as a younger man as many of us did.

  17. QUOTE (L. Wince @ Jan 9 2011, 09:33 AM) I will be buying it on BluRay the second its released. Me too.
  18. 10 mins. up the freeway to the Portland show (actually the amphitheater is in Ridgefield, Washington about 15-20 mins. north of Portland). Love those close ones!! Then 5 days later I'm going to the Gorge to see them again and it's as much about the journey for that one as it is the concert......well, almost anyway. I will be riding my motorcycle (2006 Harley Road King) and will leave the morning of the show and ride up the Columbia River gorge on the Washington side, go over Satus Pass (U.S. Highway 97), drop into Yakima and then follow the Yakima River Canyon Rd. up to Ellensburg where I'll stay the night after the show. Most of that is beautifully scenic riding. I took the same ride trip last May to see Petty at the Gorge. Bonus for the Gorge show is that Janie from this forum is sitting 2 rows behind me so I'll get to meet someone from here which will be really nice.
  19. My brother could only afford lawn so I picked up the extra $ for him so we could sit closer at the Gorge. Got section 103, row 13. This'll be his first ever Rush show (my 10th) and I wanted it to be memorable. I think the last concert just the 2 of us went to was BOC back in like '78.
  20. Robin Trower Roseland Theater Portland, OR March 11, 2011 Will be my 6th Trower show.
  21. Hey, I know nothing about the venue in Chicago but you're in the 3rd freakin' row man!! How could that be a bad choice?
  22. QUOTE (Janie @ Feb 2 2011, 06:01 PM)QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Feb 2 2011, 01:10 PM) QUOTE (Janie @ Feb 2 2011, 10:09 AM)QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Feb 2 2011, 12:17 AM) QUOTE (Janie @ Jan 31 2011, 03:43 PM)15th row! I want to meet you! You want to know what's weird, or scary, depending on your point of view. The last time I saw Rush at the gorge, I was in section 103, row 15, seat 29. For this next show, I'm in section 103, row 15, seat 26. It was not planned that way or anything. Janie: I'm section 103, 13th row, seats 29 & 30. Wondering how far to the left that is and how good the view over to Ged's side is? Also if you'd like, say "hi". I'll be the REALLY tall guy (6'6") most likely in the white GUP t-shirt with another really tall guy (my brother, same height). Those seats are pretty good. I wish I had taken my camera with me. I could show you exactly what your view will be like. I'll saunter on over and say 'hi' . It'll be funny meeting everyone because I only know people by their username. "Hi Rushchick! Hi Spike! Hi driventotheedge!" Thanks for ther info Janie, and looking forward to the "hi". BTW, I'm 3rd row dead freakin' center for Portland 5 days earlier!! .....as Tom Petty wrote, "the waiting is the hardest part". You seriously scored some awesome tickets for the Portland show! You are going to have such an awesome time being that close to the action. BTW, when we're looking for each other at the gorge show, I'll be the tall brunette a few rows in back of you. Can't miss me as I'm sure I'll be carrying a barf bag and convulsing wildly. Betcha can't wait to say hi. OK, chick drooling on herself with brunette hair. Yeah, I think I got it. Looking forward to it.
  23. QUOTE (Mr. Krinkle @ Feb 2 2011, 05:09 PM)Dosen't bother me in the slightest. I would have bet the ranch that there were going to be zero changes. All I really care about is seeing Rush. If they don't swap out a song here and there or don't play a certain song from Permanent Waves, it dosen't even enter in my decision to go see the concert. Ditto.
