An obscene amount of money, but I'm glad Shields is still a Packer!!

Here's a bit more on this:

Sam Shields, Packers agree to four-year, $39 million contract

One of the top free agent cornerbacks is off the market.

The Packers and cornerback Sam Shields have reached a four-year, $39 million contract, a league source told PFT’s Mike Florio on Saturday.

Shields will receive a $12.5 million signing bonus, and his 2014 compensation is $15 million. By the second season, Shields is slated to have made $21 million, and the deal is worth $30 million through 2016.

The 26-year-old Shields recorded 61 tackles, defended 16 passes and intercepted four passes in 2013.

Shields was PFT’s No. 15-ranked free agent and the No. 5-ranked player at a strong group of prospective free agents at his position. His departure doesn’t hurt the leverage of New England’s Aqib Talib, Indianapolis’ Vontae Davis, Tennessee’s Alterraun Verner and Denver’s Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Alterraun Verner? Isn't he something you'd ride in the Northwoods?

It's this guy again...

More teams are clamoring for Verner

http://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/verner.jpg?w=250

Soon, it could be easier to list the teams that aren’t interested in Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, who previously pegged the Jets, Vikings, and Rams as having interest in the No. 10 player on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100 list, now reports that the Lions, Steelers, and Giants also have interest in Verner.

A fourth-round pick in 2010 from UCLA, Verner has started every game the last two years, becoming one of the best young corners in the NFL in the process. The Titans opted not to apply the franchise tag to Verner, which would have paid him a lot of money on a one-year deal. It now appears that Verner will be getting a lot more money on a multi-year deal, from someone.

Of course, it’s one thing for teams to show interest and another for that interest to become a contract offer. Teams that plan to box out the other contenders for Verner will need to have the cap space to do it.

The Steelers don’t. But it costs no cash or cap space to show interest.

This Verner?

Wasn't there a Verner in one of those National Lampoon films?

Don't know about that but there IS this guy.

PHOTO: Aaron Rodgers' mustache twin looks exactly like him

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

March 10, 2014 9:03 am ET

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has spent many years in the NFL engineering drives for Green Bay and leading his team to playoff victories and a Super Bowl ring.

So, it makes sense that Rodgers actually would be referred to as an engineer while participating in a TV interview. As you can see below.

But you know what's weird? Why wouldn't the caption just say "Aaron Rodgers" instead of "Tom Wrigglesworth?"

Oh, maybe that's because instead of finding Rodgers, we've actually found his doppelganger. And it turns out that it's a British comedian named, you guessed it, Tom Wrigglesworth.

Here's Wrigglesworth.

And here's Aaron Rodgers.

They are mustache twins!

No word yet on Rodgers' response, but at this point, Wrigglesworth seems pleased to have found his American twin.

Julius Peppers is now a PACKER.....??!! I think April Fool's has come early..... :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

ESPN has reported that Peppers signed a three-year deal that totals $30 million maximum and includes $7.5 million. The first-year salary is $8.5 million.

The way the deal is is structured it may very well be a one-year experiment given the guaranteed portion of the deal is only $7.5 million. That means the Packers are paying Peppers $8.5 million in 2014 with the possibility of going into another year at a slightly higher cost if he produces.

Peppers is 34 years old, so it's anyone's guess how much longer he'll play, but he led the Bears with eight sacks last season and may be one of the best athletes to play the defensive end position in a generation or so. At 6-7 and 287 pounds, Peppers can play end in the 3-4 or defensive tackle in the nickel package rushing from the inside. He can be moved around the defensive line and played next to linebacker Clay Matthews or opposite him.

Peppers has always preferred playing in a 4-3 defense, however, and so defensive coordinator Dom Capers is going to have to be creative in finding ways to keep Peppers happy. In turn, the Packers are going to have to find a way to keep Peppers motivated. He has not always been a player who gives great effort on every single play.

2014 Green Bay Packers Draft Picks:

Round 1: Ha'Sean "Ha Ha" Clinton-Dix - FS, Alabama

Round 2: Davante Adams - WR, Fresno State

Round 3: Kyri Thornton - DT, Southern Mississippi (SIGNED)

Round 3: Richard Rodgers - TE, California

Round 4: Carl Bradford - OLB, Arizona State (SIGNED)

Round 5: Corey Linsley - C, Ohio State (SIGNED)

Round 5: Jared Abbrederis - WR, Wisconsin (SIGNED)

Round 6: Demetri Goodson - CB, Baylor (SIGNED)

Round 7: Jeff Janis - WR, Saginaw Valley State (SIGNED)

Also signed is rookie free agent Colt Lyerla, a super-talented but troubled TE who was ignored by every team during the Draft. Personal issues at Oregon and a cocaine charge left NFL teams rather unwilling to take a chance on the young man. The Packers, however, saw something of value in him, and let him tryout for the team. He has passed the first hurdle by getting signed to the roster. He will be under great scrutiny, but if he does well, he could be one of the top stories of 2014...... :o

All ours are signed already. days ago, ages ago mate! :sundog:

And what a waste of money it was.....

The Packer players are busy getting their fingers measured for Super Bowl rings. Their contracts will be done in good time..... :ebert:

The Packers players might as well be getting their fingers measured for a doggy balloon boot for all the good that'll do! :16ton:

Get out of our thread and go back to getting measured for tiny condoms

Fair is fair......I talked trash on the Saints thread, so Treeduck came over here and returned the favor. It's all good....and very funny!! :laughing guy:

Not here yet... Bad news for GBs running game

Franklin forced to retire due to neck injury...

Once again, we get a painful reminder of how fleeting a career in the NFL is. Sterling Sharpe, Terrance Murphy, Nick Collins, Jermichael Finley, Johnny Jolly, and now Franklin. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

To be honest, I didn't think Franklin was going to make the Packers' 53-man roster this year, but he could have done very well with another team. What a shame..... :(
