I'm not very much "up" on the best places to stay IN Boston. I would honestly suggest staying just outside, to the North of the city, in maybe Everett, Malden, Melrose, Medford. It will be less expensive and the neighborhoods aren't as dicey. Traveling to Boston from where you're staying, I'm a big advocate of the train system (the MBTA Subway), and getting off in North Station. But that's really up to you. You can ride in-town on the Red and Orange Lines respectively from those aforementioned cities. Driving wise, Boston is easily accessible via Routes 1 and 93 from the North, but Parking is expensive (at least $25 in the more secure lots) and driving in Boston isn't one of my favorite things to do.
