  1. So, I can't tell. Was Working Man played sans guitar for the first bit at every show or were they still working out kinks and Geddy and Neil just worked around it?
  2. My favorite "moment" from a Rush song is still (and has been for quite some time) that drum fill Neil did in Xanadu that had previously just been a silent pause just before "a thousand years have come and gone..." which he filled in on the Different Stages recording with a very simple drum fill that still brings a smile to my face and forces me to air-drum it no matter what recording I'm listening to.

    Rush Tattoos

I, too, am interested in this. So let's see em!
  4. I deleted iTunes from my comp ages ago because I hate the shit out of it. I was momentarily mortified! But then I found out someone had uploaded to YouTube. Woohoo!!! AWESOME tracks! Definitely loving Caravan more, at this point. That crazy drum bit....oh man! And the bit where everything cuts away for just a second and it's just geddy playing...I'm thinking a perfect spot for a mini-solo for him, ala Driven.
  5. I know there's plenty of NE folks out there. I'll be keeping an eye out for those cars with the Starman graphics on them...need to find me some of those! Anyway, never been to the Garden. Is it intimate like Verizon Wireless in Manchester or less so, like Greatwoods? Another show like the Manchester ones I've been to (minus the technical difficulties of their last Manchester show) and that intimacy you feel even from the farther seats would be amazing! Seems like I only post here when there's a new album or tour...I think I just belong to too many message boards. Lastly, is the TRF community getting together before/after?
  6. Saw DT at the end of last summer in Boston's Bank of America Pavilion. Wasn't too excited about the openers, but DT was amazing. That was my second time seeing them. They played a lot of their heavier stuff, which I liked because I was in a real mood to rock out that night! Then I saw them in May and I have to say I was disappointed. THREE opening acts, none of which were that great (Opeth changed from crazyscreamingdeathmetal to soft and slow at the drop of a hat in the middle of their songs...it was giving me motion sickness, like swiftly accelerating and then decelerating over and over in a car). Then DT came on. This was at the Orpheum in Boston, BTW...not a place for a metal or rock band to play. The acoustics are all wrong. Anyway, the set was ludicrously short, and the mixing and acoustics made everything distorted. Needless to say, my third experience with DT was not my favorite. And out of three shows they STILL haven't played Home for me!
  7. Funny that Clint Eastwood flicks are being discussed right now...My personal favorite movie is Kelly's Heroes. http://www.philben.net/images/blog/KellysHeroes4.jpg
  8. QUOTE (Steevo @ Jun 21 2008, 05:07 PM) Saw him once, pretty good. The prog piece was always his best. In a brit comedy called Black Books too which is okish. Not sure how it would translate to the US. He's coming down later this year but can't really afford it this time OK-ish??? It's probably the most clever and funny sitcom on television! Though, it's actually my favorite after Spaced. Bill Bailey and Dylan Moran are my favorite standups. The hell wtih Eddie Izzard.
  9. QUOTE (The Owl @ Jun 16 2008, 12:24 AM) Screw Milla Jonovich Milla is a goddess!
  10. Well, as far as "chick flicks" go, I'd say the only one I'd watch twice is "Love, Actually" As for love movies in general, Casablanca and The Quiet Man aren't very "chick-flick" but they're certainly love stories. And I like them as well.
  11. I know it's an oldie but it's also one of my very favorite movies of all time. I'll be popping Kelly's Heroes into the DVD player tonight!
  12. QUOTE (snowdog987 @ Apr 14 2007, 12:17 PM) Fried Green Tomatoes To this day whenever I see it when checking whats on I always call my wife (whether she is at home or out) and tell her she better not miss it! The Matrix movies & LOTR? Your opinion but I would say that you are in a group of maybe a 100. And I loved Titantic.....Thought I would hate it but was pleasantly surprised. Matrix 1 was amazing. The other two were sub par to put it lightly
  13. Anything Uwe Boll or Tim Burton directed. And Villiage of the Damned.
  14. QUOTE (pixey @ Apr 5 2006, 10:59 PM) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is slated for a July 13, 2007 release, says WB. Ok so this might be a problem or really brilliant, I heard it both ways. The Final Harry Potter book is rumored to be released on 07-07-07, which we know from the series is a magical number. Some are saying that they arent going to release the final book and the movie (on the 13th too!) at nearly the same time. I disagree! Nothing wrong with some Harry Potter hysteria! Link to news Just for the record, historically through most western cultures going way back, 7 has always had a magical or religious meaning behind it.

Heat ftw I like Kilmer. He's had some smaller movies that are really good. He was great in Tombstone though. He didn't stand out in heat as much as I'd have liked. I didn't really like or dislike his performance because I felt I had nothing to base it on. However I do like him in The Ghost and the Darkness. Flame me if you must but I really did like that movie.

QUOTE (owlswing @ Mar 20 2007, 01:58 PM) QUOTE (Necromancer @ Mar 20 2007, 11:55 AM)QUOTE (rushgoober @ Mar 20 2007, 09:28 AM) Thankfully the books are far better than the movies, but still it's disappointing to say the least. The guy playing Dumbeldore now is good, but he never quite hit the right note that Richard Harris did before he died. He had the stoicism that seemed apporpriate and the new Dumbeldore is far too emotional when compared to the book. I guess I'd think this was a bigger deal if I hadn't been so disappointed by the last 2 or 3 movies. I greatly enjoy them, but they're a mere shadow of the books... Yeah. My twelve year old twins agree. Sorry... couldn't resist. Funny I know a few thirteen year olds that aren't to happy about this news. I for one don't think she is making a wise move, but hey wait a few weeks she may be back with a larger salary. Not like it's a good idea for her to come back at this point anyways...the other two main characters aren't even talking to her. Not what I call good chemistry.

And not just how the actor portrays him but how the character was written and directed. Dumbledore was a regular prick in the 4th movie.

QUOTE (Dread Pirate Robert @ Mar 19 2007, 12:45 PM) QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Mar 9 2007, 10:24 AM) If you haven't read 'Watchmen', I urge you to check it out. Yes, it's a comic book, and I originally had a chip on my shoulder about it. My brother-in-law was the one who talked me into reading it. He said: "I know you and I know your tastes, you'll love it." He was right. The comic was written by the same guy who wrote 'V For Vendetta' and 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. Here's a link to read about it: 'Watchmen'. I think I'll break out my copy and read it again. I read Watchmen back in the 80's. I agree, it was great. As for 300 -- haven't seen it yet, but I plan on doing so. From what I have heard/read about it, it is poor history but great entertainment, which sounds about right for a Hollywood historical flick. Actually, as I said despite some blatant differences, it's quite close historically.
  19. Let's face it, after this they just shouldn't bother with the other two movies. I mean, they've undergone director changes, cast changes, the entire castle and surrounding area got a major makeover in the third movie so that it doesn't even resemble the first two movies, and now this. Now, I know continuity isn't a big thing in the Harry Potter books, but this change along with all the others is just ridiculous. Not to mention that the series is poorly written, poorly directed, casted and acted. Basically it's time to put Old Yeller down after this development. Leave it at 5 movies which is already too many.

    300 !

This movie was "better than porn" according to one friend and I tend to agree. I saw it opening night in a normal theater and last thursday in IMAX. IMAX was freaking amazing. The sound...everything. So many good lines in that movie as well. "Immortals...we put their name to the test" The coolest part of this movie is that if you've ever studied the battle of Thermopylae in-depth, you'll realise that aside from a few minor plot elements and of course the giant incredible-hulk type creatures, this movie is almost dead-on for accuracy. You should really check out the wikipedia page about Thermopylae, its quite interesting. The other thing that I loved about this movie is that many of the lines they say are historical as well. Among some of the lines pulled straight from history are: "Our arrows will blot out the sun" "then we will fight in the shade" and "Earth and water. You'll find plenty of both down there" (both the Spartans and the Athenians said something similar and threw the messengers into pits) There are others, but I can't think of them right now.
  21. "You're so drunk you can't hit nothin'. In fact...you're probably seein' double" "I have two guns...one for each of ya" One of the best damned movies of all time.
  22. QUOTE (Vicious @ Mar 9 2007, 08:44 PM) Sounds very VT'ish Not at all. For one thing you can distinguish the individual instruments :-P Plus Geddy is playing like he was meant to again. Also, it rocks way harder.
  23. Ok...I've been reading this thread and I'm still unsure of one major thing: Who in the name of Zeus' BUTTHOLE is Hilda?
