Country Music

my idea of hell would be to be locked in a huge banquet hall, always hungry, but with the most magnificent smorgasbord you could possibly imagine of incredible delicous food and it's all you can eat.

the catch is there is country music BLASTING out of loud speakers, so you can't enjoy any of it. it would be worse if there was no food, because then you could at least justify being miserable, but the feast just makes it all the more bittersweet and torturous...

Well...you would not surive in Calgary....or any part of Alberta for that matter. I used to hate country music...I absolutely love it now. It's def. an acquired taste....actaully I dare you to come out to Calgary during the Stampede season and to see if you still hate it...

Country is f*cking hard music to play...and now I respect guys like Kieth Urban because he is def. a wicked guitar player...and to mention...drumming in those sorts of songs ain't no piece of cake....thats F'n hard too. As a musican this is how I respect country music. It's great I love it. smile.gif

I love country music, well most of it. Only after I opened my ears and gave it a chance did I realize that some of the best songwriters and musicians are country artists.

I would much rather listen to country that almost ANY of the new rock crap out there!

I listen to a fair amount of country. When ever I'm with my dad, he got hooked on it after spending a year in Nebraska. Its all he listens too, but sometimes... I'm able to put in a Pink Floyd song and he'll listen, saying that he saw that concert in Montreal.. blah blah blah same old story. But it's all good!

I used to think most new music was crap too, but much to my suprise, there's actually a lot of good new rock music. A lot of it doesn't get radio play though.

As for country music... I'm not a fan of it. Although I do realize that there are some talented country musicians, I just don't enjoy the style.

My fav country song yes.gif

actually a re-write of another song (everybody should know what it is)

The Devil Went To Jamaica

The Devil went to Jamaica

He was looking to sell some weed

he was doin' fine, they were standing in line

it was excellent weed indeed

he came across a young man who was likewise peddling pot

and the devil slid down the beach and said "boy let me tell you what,

I guess you kinda figured I'm a reefer head of course

and after all this time, I guess that I'm a conessuire of sorts

now your stuff smells ok, but this can tranquilize a horse

I bet a million in cash against your satsh that mines better then yours."

the boy said my names Johnny and you ain't smoked nothing yet

one hit of this grass'll kick your ass, you got yourself a bet."

Johnny role a ball of hash and make sure its the bomb

cause the devils got the kinda stuff they smoke in vietnam

you'll get a million smackaroos in cash if you can cope

but if you can't the devil gets your dope

The devil packed a bong with a little ockopoco gold

and resin flew from his fingertips as he fired up his bowl

he filled that chamber all the way and he took a mighty hit

and as they passed it back and forth it gave them both a coughing fit

when the bowl was finished Johnny said hey man that stuff was great

but fill your lungs with some of this and prepare to vegetate

cannibas sativa sweet mary jane

the devils in the back yard frying his brain

zig zag filled with a diggidy dank

hold on tight it'll hit you like a tank

the devil nodded off because he knew that he was stoned

and he asked if he could buy an ounce of the stuff that Johnny owned

Johnny said devil just come on back if you ever want to catch a buzz

i done told you once you son of a bitch mines the best there ever was

Fired up doobies one by one

aint gonna stop till the bags done

green as a bull frog sticky as glue

granny do you get high yes i do

I agree ... I didn't get into country until I was in my late 20s.

Also, people who shut themselves off from a whole genre may miss out on something good.

One more thing, smile.gif ... for those who do not like country, try going to a few shows, there are some great musicians in country. Most of them actually "rock it up" quite a bit. I saw Charlie Daniels a year ago and was blown away by his drummer. Looked him up and he listed Neil as one of his main influences. I wasn't surprised ... he was that good.

You assume I didn't give it a shot.

Wrong. Shouldn't assume dazed025.gif

I have had that opinion for decades ... so don't flatter yourself. no.gif

Don't be so cranky.

What frightens me is that your opinion hasn't changed for decades

Not a comforting thought

Country music___that's the devil's music man

I'd rather die than listen to that shit

Here, here! trink39.gif

no offense if you like it. hell, most people don't like the music i listen to, but i actually find country music offensive - if they're playing it in a store i'll walk out, when it comes on the television i quickly turn the channel. i wouldn't let anyone put it on my stereo for fear it would get infected.

i don't know why, but it really bugs the crap out of me. i can't stand rap music, but i'd rather listen to it all day if it was a choice between rap and country - i do NOT get it, and telling me to try it more is like telling me to dip my hand into acid - not appealing in any way.

now, country-influenced rock i can dig - like grateful dead, crosby stills & nash, etc., but pure country - 062802puke_prv.gif

We need Lakesidemaiden's opinion on this....

apparently my opinion is necessary wink.gif I try to make time when I am needed biggrin.gif

Country Music, my dear, misguided, goober, is NOT something to be punished by...Country Music is about life, and honestly, if you cannot see the wisdom behind the words, and only see the stereotypical views of Country Music, and not the talent of the musicians who perform it....then, are you truly a music fan? For if we can't appreciate all forms of music (*and I use the term Music as people actually playing musical instruments, and writing lyrics that inspire and heal the masses....) then we need to take a closer look at ourselves and reevaluate what WE consider music to be, and open our minds and hearts to the other forms of music out there, because there are a lot of talented musicians, singers and songwriters out there, in ALL genres of music and its not right to insult ANY type of music, regardless of how you may feel or how immaturely (or maturely you may put it). I've said my piece....sorry for the short visit folks....Love my job, but the hours royally suck...pulling roughly 65-70 hours a week....

This is my hair, thank you and goodnight...
