....This guy i named Bob.

It is a Sand Hill Crane. I have a family of three that hang out at my work. They love to eat the bird seed out of the feeder. i used to keep it close to my office window. I would film them often. I was particularly happy with this capture. i felt like i was so busted !!! ha ha ha.

very spiritual beings. i love them. all of 'em.

Look at that guy! Reminds me on this guy who hangs around my house every day:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/1001001/turkey2_zpsfb968876.jpg

He forages out in the front yard in the morning, then moves to the back yard, often stopping to peer into my back door before disappearing into the woods for the day.

I'm surprised there's only one. Around here it's not unusual to see a dozen or more in a flock. Had a couple of them in my front yard a few days ago and I thought that was unusual to only see two.

In the second photo you'll notice another turkey in the background. That was taken a couple of years ago when there were two of them hanging around, but that was down from five turkeys before that -- two males and three females, IIRC. The top photo was taken last year. He's been alone for two years now. Poor fella.

well i do reside about 30 miles away from the Detroit zoo...

It was said in jest because of our below freezing temps we've been experiencing the last few days... :)

I figured as much... same crap here in Milwaukee. The next couple of days will have -30 (or worse) wind chills... for the 4th time this season. I'm tired of these polar vortices....

Anyone ever see one of these bad boys?

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/29798797.jpg

Pecker Head :D

:D

I've only seen two pileated woodpeckers my whole life. Not a very easy bird to spot. Damn things are almost the size of chickens.

Woodpeckers can be annoying especially if they're banging on your house at 6 am.

Every time I see a Pileated Woodpecker I think of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, which many suspect is now extinct. Sad!
