As for Different Strings, great stuff, great album. But it is no Presto.

Thankfully.

I don't feel like reading back but is someone stating that Presto (which I like 70% of it) is better than Permanent Waves (1000%)?.... :eh:

I was, yes.

PeW is a wonderful 7/10. But for me Presto is a magnificent 9.5/10!

If you say so. That's cool....

Hmm, the only criticism of PeW I could even begin to understand is that it is too short. But hey, keep that picture in your signature and you can say whatever you'd like.

I find it incomprehensible myself, but I have found that the younger Rush fans are more of his mind than ours.

In any event, since I am really tired of Rush fans with infallible and superior opinions on Rush songs - to each his own. ;) ;) ;)

I know PeW has been discussed a million times before but ... after my initial feeling of disappointment that PeW wasn't Hemispheres Mark II passed, I realized that Rush just released a perfect album. Not a single misstep. The passage of time has made that even more apparent. Their most timeless album too; they could make it today and it would be a contemporary masterpiece. Today's music buyers (do people still buy albums, or just songs?) would wonder why only 36 minutes of their 80-minute CD was used ("Is this an EP?"), but what a 36 minute run. Edited by Rutlefan

Ain't she stunning?

I'VE MET AND HUGGED HER!

Well the fact I class PeW as a part of the GREATEST ALBUM STREAK EVEEEERRR (CoS-Presto), I think it fair to say I still love Permanent Waves.

I am still quite new to Rush, in the sense that twenty studio albums in three years, ten of them in less than a year, I am still making my mind over much of their delicious catalogue.

My opinions constantly shift, as nearly every time I play an album it sounds new still!

I agree completely with you, but I was horrified to find out that Rush doesn't think as highly of that album as we do. They have rotten taste in their own music.

Savage, I think your force on Presto to us was a good thing. Im starting to grow more and more to Presto

Presto will always remain in the top tier of Rush albums for me, even if the band doesn't think so.

The band generally likes Presto (at least the songs themselves) it seems they don't like how it turned out which probably has to do with the mixing/production:

According to Lee during the Rush in Rio concert (as well as the recent "Box Set" episode on VH1 Classic), "The Pass" is one of Rush's favourite songs. In a 2011 interview, Peart said of Presto: "That was an album that, for all of us, should have been so much better than it was... If we could do one [album] again, it would be that one, because we still love the songs from it, but... you can never make magic happen." [5]

Is this PeeWee Herman? I used to watch him all the time. I though he was very funny. Too bad he had - er - problems.

It's from the movie Pee Wee's Big Adventure, the scene where he eats Mr. T cereal. You need to upgrade your internet service ;)

And well, too bad the police that arrested him had problems by staking out in a porn theater (really?). Well I think Pee Wee's "problems" were definitely exaggerated, but we don't need to go off on this tangent :)

Yes. But, have no fear, next week he might be of a different mind. :)

Its all about taste, but PeW and MP are masterpieces. I like Presto, but it dosnt come close to PeW.

They also acknowledged disappointment (actually Neil did in one of his books) that The Pass was a noticeable bathroom break during their shows.

MP is better than Presto. PeW is not as enjoyable to me, but still great!

0/3 for me.

You crazy?

No. They just aren't good songs. DS I'll give a little love to. Available Light is Rush doing Air Supply.

What is wrong with Air Supply?!?!?!?!?!

Tis a good band!

I never listened to Presto ever until a couple months ago. I actually like 7 out of the 11 songs. Available Light draws me in for some reason. I must have dug some Air Supply back in the day. All Out Of Love is Air Supply isn't it? I think that was their big one....

And Presto, as a whole, was five years too late for its sound. That sound belonged more to the early eighties rather than the late.

That's the biggest reason I don't care for it. It's very 80's sounding whereas I think for the most part the rest of their albums are pretty timeless.

"They have rotten taste in their own music"... They really seem to, especially Neil. But it's not just Neil, apparently. My brother told me (so this could be wrong, because he might have heard it wrong or remembers it wrong) that Geddy said a few years ago that he never wants to sing Lakeside Park again, and that he's embarrassed when he hears it. Wah!?!? Again, maybe that wasn't really said, but I'll pretend I'm a journalist and treat hearsay like established fact, and exploit and sensationalize it. Geddy, how can you say that!!! That's one of the best songs Rush recorded. Ugh, makes me think the stuff I love the most by them might have been some sort of drawn out accident.
