savagegrace26 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Metallica (they straight lifted the guitar riff from Tom Sawyer in Sanitarium and actually thanked Rush in the liner notes).I'm curious - can you specify what riff you're referring to in the 'talica song? Sanitarium (Welcome Home)... from 4:02 t0 4:21 in the song... the guitar work is clearly taken directly from Tom Sawyer. From what I have read, Metallica does not confirm it was borrowed, but they do not deny it either. Factor that with the nod to Rush in the original liner notes, and it is more tribute than sinister thievery... although Metal Huh. I just listened to that (do you actually mean from 4:08-4:24?) but I don't get Tom Sawyer stuff at all. I hear it
savagegrace26 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) The riff is similar to what's going on starting at 2:34 Edited July 18, 2014 by savagegrace26
x1yyz Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 The riff is similar to what's going on starting at 2:34 Okay, now I can see some similarity. Are they playing the same notes/chords?
KennyLee Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Hemispheres to me is heavy from start to finish. (in all the right ways). The Sphere and The Trees have their light moments but The Trees kicks in strong. To me, that is their heaviest album start to finish. Tears and Twilight Zone being in 2112 keeps it off my "heaviest" list. 3
