Lorraine Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I by no means consider ANYTHING rush has down to be metal. But you have to remember. I was not born in the 70's.....they probably were metal. So ya can't go by me. lol. MickI was born in 60' and I never considered it metal so..... I will be shown the error of my ways by some members here however....... :) If i thought they WERE metal.....they would never in a million years have my interest. Not to up on that genre. There's always minor exceptions but on the whole.....i don't dig it to much. Mick Same here. 1
rugen Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) Probably meant hardcore... Some albums were the band let it all out! 1) 2112 (side 1) 2) Vapor Trail 3) Clockwork Angels, oh almost forgot, Counterparts Edited July 16, 2014 by RUDT
Rushman14 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 The hardest album is Vapor Trails. The album that was most "metal" at the time of release was probably 2112.I am confused. Did he mean hardest to listen too?..... That was mean. And funny. No joke. I listened to it last night and the constant distortion/buzz or whatever it is is intolerable. A shame too. Some good songs there and a headache for me to show for my trouble.... did you check the remix?
troutman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Not a studio album, But ATWAS hands down!!! :codger: :haz: :rush: 3
EagleMoon Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 The metal genre in music has really changed over the years. What people used to mean when they said metal music isn't the same thing they mean now. Back in the 70s and 80s when you said metal that meant any kind of heavy music. Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath...etc. so in that vein Rush was metal but more of a progressive metal. 1
Narps Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 By "hardest" he means most arousingI saw what you did there..... :)

LittleRushmonkey Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I think S&A is quite heavy for a lot of its songs. Rush seem to have their albums with a few heavy songs on and some not so heavy. 1

EagleMoon Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 And the sound problem was fixed on the remix. It was cleaned up but the mix is not that great. 1

EagleMoon Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 And the sound problem was fixed on the remix. It was cleaned up but the mix is not that great.Sounds lousy to me but what do I know. A shame really..... There's some kind of loud low thump/moan going on in most of the songs that gives me a headache. If I turn the bass WAY down it takes most of it out, and it's not the bass itself. I have to think there's just too much sonic overlapping in the mix. That drives me nuts. I like a lot of the songs but I have trouble listening to the remix. 1

The original just pops and fizzes and sounds like my TV at 2 AM before my parents got cable. 1
WorkingAllTheTime Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) I agree with the previous notion that calling any single album from the band "metal" is a stretch. Sure, there are parts of albums (CoS and 2112 come to mind) that are very heavy and have metal influences, but to think of the entirely of those albums, or any Rush album, as "metal" seems odd. At the same time, the fact that bands like Metallica (they straight lifted the guitar riff from Tom Sawyer in Sanitarium and actually thanked Rush in the liner notes) and Pantera pay their respects to Rush demonstrates a degree of blending and influence. That said, I would actually throw T4E out there as one of the heavier sounding albums. Edited July 17, 2014 by WorkingAllTheTime 1
toymaker Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Metallica (they straight lifted the guitar riff from Tom Sawyer in Sanitarium and actually thanked Rush in the liner notes).I'm curious - can you specify what riff you're referring to in the 'talica song?

The guitar riffs of any metal bands have a agressivness that you don't find in Rush's music. Rush is more hard progressive than progressive metal.

The guitar riffs of any metal bands have a agressivness that you don't find in Rush's music. Rush is more hard progressive than progressive metal. Just read that interview from Prog Magazine, R45. Geddy makes mention of the fact that they were more metal than many of the progressive bands they were often categorised alongside. Obviously that is not Rush claiming to be metal, but some of the influence is there! And much of VT sounds akin to the radio metal of the era...I definitely sense the inspiration Rush had from, and on metal. But they are way to diverse to be labelled any one genre. 1
RushBoingo Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I always classified Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows as their most Metal albums. 1
