What the hell? I had a steady girlfriend in high school who told me that she had accepted a prom date request from someone else, because I hadn't asked her first. Granted, I was an idiot, but there's a lesson to be learned from that- normally, when it comes to these social rituals, the girl likes to be asked, instead of the other way around.
