Tarkus406
their fashion sense has actually got worse since the 70sWhy can't Squire return to wearing the doctor outfit with the kidneys on his shoulders?
Thunder Bay Rush
I saw Yes twice back in the 70s and it was mind blowing. But, ever since then, there has been SO goddam much arguing, line up changes, legal hassles, break ups, etc, that I just don't care any more. The biggest thing for me, is that Jon Anderson isn't on the tour. I mean, he IS Yes. The new singer, Jon Davidson is unbelievably good, but he's not Jon Anderson. And, who is on keyboards "this tour?" Rick Wakeman? Oliver? pat Moraz? Jeff Downes? Or, someone from a Yes cover band? So, my take is that there is a really good Yes cover band out there playing small venues for cheap prices and sadly, they're called Yes.  I'll stick to my Close to the Edge album... and all the other YES greats.

Thunder Bay Rush
Hey, cool man! Maybe I'll sit in on the drums. I used to be able to play all the 70s Yes material. I remember trying to figure out Siberian Khatru when I was 13... I got it in a few weeks of effing around! I played it by feel then because I hadn't yet learned about time signatures and how to ... uh...um.... count.
the masked drummer
If you haven't seen the "new Jon" yet, I think you'll be pleased. Benoit David acted like Jon Anderson and that was about it. Jon Davison has a cool style that differs from the flamboyant actions of both Jon Anderson and Benoit. He's very focused yet unpretentious, and if you close your eyes you can't tell it isn't Anderson. He actually has more control of his live voice than the other Jon. No, he didn't pay his dues like Jon Anderson, but for the assignment Davison's been given you couldn't ask for much more out of him imho. Squire and Howe did the talking between songs last time, which was kinda weird, but was kinda cool...

And those stupid congas and the acoustic guitar that he didn't even play didn't help... I've seen a few videos of Davison and he looked much more comfortable and natural on stage, and his voice is great. Thunder Bay Rush
There's some good footage of Jon Davidson playing with Yes on the You Tube. It's shocking just HOW MUCH he sounds like Anderson. He's a highly skilled vocalist, no doubt about that! It's still weird for me though, because after 40 plus years, the original singer is out and the new guy is in. It's not Yes anymore. What's next? A new bass player? Guitarist? This is the main reason why they're playing to half filled theaters these days (they're even playing casinos and 1000 seat House of Blues venues). I almost wish they'd pick a new name and acknowledge that YES is over.
bathory
well an old interview chris squire said something about yes being an eternal band where even when members come and go there will be people in the band playing those songs, like an orchestra
the masked drummer
I decided to go on a carribean cruise instead of Yes this year, in an effort to save money. They've sold 4,931 tickets as of this morning to the Fox Detroit show so there were 69 left. No thanks. have fun. Saw them last year for about 15 bucks, saw them with jon anderson a few times so I'm good. No senior twig n berries sightings for me... However, since I don't really know why Jon 1 isn't with them any more I can't deny Squire's plan is a good one for both members and fans. Kiss plans to do that. It's like a regular company, which can be bought and sold. I can't condemn Yes for that. What I CAN and WILL condemn them for is charging too much for their upcoming concert tickets. They succeeded in gaining back the monetary losses from last tour. Bravo. Edited January 8, 2013 by the masked drummer

Tarkus406
And I'm not complaining about the $45 tickets. After hearing Jon Davison on various YouTube clips, I'm really looking forward to the show. 3 entire albums! Holy shitsauce! The songs!Yours is No Disgrace!Starship Trooper!Perpetual Change!Close to the Edge!Going for the One!Awaken! Seeing Awaken should be worth the money by itself. drbirdsong
I think you got it Drums - Bill Bruford, Alan White (I don't count Tony O'Reilly, he didn't record anything with them and I don't think there are any boots) Vocals - Jon Anderson, Trevor Horn, Benoit David, Jon Davidson Guitar - Peter Banks, Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin, Billy Sherwood Bass - Chris Squire Keyboards - Tony Kaye, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Geoff Downes, Igor Khoroshev, Oliver Wakeman
ColdFireYYZ
In addition to guitars, Billy Sherwood played keys on Open Your Eyes. Tom Brislin played keys on the Magnification tour but he I don't think he was considered an official member of the band. drbirdsong
Well, if you want to get really detailed about the whole thing Jon Anderson has played a bit of guitar here and there and Chris Squire has played harmonica. You could also say that several members have played percussion and several members have also contributed in the vocal department. I guess we were just talking about main instruments here. the masked drummer
I apologize for inaccurate reporting. My bad. I must have been on a secondary ticket merchant's site... The Fox Theatre show tix start at $89, which isn't bad considering it's a 5,000 seat world-class venue with no bad seats whatsoever. I'm IN!!!!
