But while doing that I'm writing reviews for the albums and I think my list of top 100 songs has changed because that album list has insanely good recommendations. I'll be posting it again soon
Good, bad, andrush
BUMP I'm gonna listen to all of this and give feedback on each song Edited May 2, 2012 by Good, bad, andrush
Good, bad, andrush
13th Floor Elevators - Earthquake All righty, immediately I'm drawn in by the nice psychedelic touches. I'm not sure I'd call it a top 500 best songs of all time but this is music I can listen to without ever getting bored. It is what it is, classic late 60's psychedelia Gotta say, love the slightly darker ending though Edited May 2, 2012 by Good, bad, andrush
Good, bad, andrush
Air - La Femme D'argent I love the opening, though it's a bit repetitive. Of course, very psychedelic but relaxing, and that bass solo is so chill. The relaxing piano behind it is very nice. I love the last bit too, with keyboards(? guitar?) doing the triplets, really laid back feel. Again, not sure if top 500 songs ever material, and I've know I've listened to this track before...deja entendu...
Good, bad, andrush
Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Paco De Lucia - Mediterranean Sundance/Rio Ancho This I have heard a million times, don't need to listen again to review, but jeezus I love this so much. It has a surreal...well, a surreal Mediterranean Sundance feel Superb unbelievable playing and basically pure perfection. I'd say this is a top 500 songs of all time, also for the fact that it's a combination of probably three of the world's top ten guitarists
Good, bad, andrush
Daevid Allen - Only Make Love If You Want To This is definitely trance-inducing, but too repetitive for me to call it a top 500 song and not enough redeeming qualities. That voice is mystic though, and really, sometimes repetition makes a song great and it does that for this one but it's just not entirely my thing...though I do like it a lot. Good, bad, andrush
Daevid Allen - Deya Goddess I'm immediately in love with this, don't know why I have NEVER EVEN HEARD of Daevid Allen. I suppose I've seen the name, but hearing this song made me do some research, and what a surprise, he's participated in Gong and Soft Machine Anyway, this is super surreal and beautiful, and I'm only a minute in at this point After entirely listening: all right, this type of repetition I don't mind, because it's repeating sheer beauty. I know I was tripping the f*** out just listening to this. Definitely going to buy this album when I get the chance, I already liked the other tune but I have a feeling this would be the best one. Damn, you are ambitious, and you must have a LOT of time on your hands! I'm enjoying your responses so far, and I hope you end up discovering some new music from this endeavor. Don't expect me to comment on all, or even most of your response/posts, but I'll be reading them enthusiastically! And don't forget, I listed my fave songs in 3 different sections; 1-25, 26-100 and 101-500. Looks like you're starting with 101-500, which is great. Do you really think you'll get through all 500? Good, bad, andrush
Daevid Allen - Why Do We Treat Ourselves Like We Do? Well this is a nice surprising allusion to a great album I like this a lot, I need to buy this album. Another surreal piece, a little darker. Good, bad, andrush
The Amboy Dukes - Journey to the Center of the Mind Too straightforward for me, but still has a psychedelic "classic" vibe to it, with some really fun and inspiring lyrics. I do dig this tune, but wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it. CLASSIC GUITAR SOLO! (even if it's just a few notes.) Good, bad, andrush
Amon Duul II - Soap Shop Rock This is a great hard-rocking tune and I know I've listened to it before, but I love the middle part where it kinda calms down and the intense ending, that's great, reminds me of Into a Game by VdGG. Good, bad, andrush
Amon Duul II - Cerberus This is one I remember listening to a LONG time ago when I was getting into prog. It didn't click with me then, but it's clicking with me now. Nice breakdown about three minutes in, and love the folksy guitars and percussion. Powderfinger
Cool list Goober, and fun to read! Makes me want to contribute a list of my own. I guess the only thing that jumps out at me is the lack of jazz. Given your comments in other threads I was under the impression that you were a fan of good jazz music. Would it simply be too overwhelming to incorporate that genre? Oh, one last thing, don't bend on Signals brother! It is Rush's masterpeice. Perhaps not having a Signals tune in your top ten demonstrates that album's depth and that it doesn't stand on two or three songs alone.

Well this is a nice surprising allusion to a great album I like this a lot, I need to buy this album. Another surreal piece, a little darker. If you're a fan of Gong, you definitely need Now is the Happiest Time of Your Life by Daevid Allen, and to a slightly lesser extent, Good Morning, also by him (though technically credited as Daevid Allen & Euterpe) - in some songs he continues the story of Zero the Hero from Gong... I guess with Jazz it's harder for me to pick individual songs, and sometimes comparing them with rock songs is such an odd thing - it's not like comparing apples and oranges, it's more like comparing apples and volkswagens. Also, for me to pick out individual songs, I have to listen to jazz albums a LOT to really pick the stand outs - it takes awhile - I'm much more prone to pick out favorite albums. Definitely witih jazz I'm much more into avant-garde and free jazz than straight ahead jazz, as well as some fusion - my faves are Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc. Signals is awesome, don't worry - it will always be one of my very favorite albums of all time!
