Arndrake
The forest was dead due to a forest fire. The man drowned because he was a scuba diver in a lake and accidentally was picked up by the fire bomber, his scuba tank ran out of air before he could get out of the bomber. This story is a popular one, here's their take on it - Scuba Diver In The Forest I remember when that myth was floating around the net. CSI even had a case that involved a similar incident. This is about all I can come up with at the moment. I know it is more of a visual puzzle, but her goes: Explain how to cut a round cake into eight identical pieces with only three cuts. You cut the cake in half then into quarters, so you now have 4 equal parts then you put all the 4 quarters on top of each other and cut them in half
Arndrake
Sorry, I meant to include, without moving any of the pieces. My bad.
rickyrob
so.... you cut into quarters, using two cuts, and the third cut is through its middle (or, if you like it can be the first cut) forming 4 quarters in the top half of the cake, and 4 quarters in the bottom half this will of course, only work if the cake is perfectly symmetrical

rickyrob
http://www.puzz.com/lloyd3.jpg A, B, C and D are four sleeping ladybugs on a perfectly flat tabletop. The above chart gives information as to various distances between bugs. What is the direct distance between ladybugs A and C?

Help, I think my brain is going to implode. there is a little clue in the question. Don't look at the puzzle by the way it is presented. i.e. don't think of it spacially. All the information is there to arrive at the right answer. No it isn't 5cm

rickyrob
another clue.....look at the B to D dimension and then look at the other numbers in the information its better if you just write down the information you have, and forget about the chart altogether
rickyrob
OK. I accept this is a very awkward puzzle, and so I am going to give away a bit more information. The bugs all lie on a straight line, not in the formation given in the pic
