Tick
QUOTE (SiriusRushFan @ Oct 14 2009, 07:45 PM) Tick, you must have missed this thread from last year as I don't see any of your posts in it... http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?show...=45414&st=0&hl= but anyway, glad to see another thread on it because... Since that thread was posted, they have actually built a new Drive-In about 30 minutes from us! Complete with kiddie playground and concession stand. Right off of I-64... http://www.goochlanddriveintheater.com/index.html An aerial pic of the place... http://www.goochlanddriveintheater.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/Aerialphoto.JPG

Don't be hatin' on the Jericho! I was thinking of that dinky "Hollywood" place out in the middle of Rensselaer County. Yeah, the Jericho is still open, too... but I've never been there; any good? There's also the Malta Drive-In in Ballston Spa, but it's thirty miles away. And about the same distance: one in Coxsackie (south of us) and one way out in North Hoosick. You're too young and new to the area to remember the old Mohawk drive-in in Colonie; it was right on Central Ave where the plaza with the Kohl's is, and it was big. QUOTE 3.5 mi. It gets crowded though and they recently put in this ice cream/treats stand that is quite popular for the non-movie goers. I never knew about the drive-in where Kohls is; I will have to ask my parents I remember when Builders Square was there, haha. iluvgeddy05
QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Oct 14 2009, 03:25 PM) A nice pic I found on the internet. http://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/drive-in-theater.jpg You know, I could see this as a Rush album cover, with a couple other elements thrown in. Anyone else? Or have I lost my mind It just has that..Rush cover album appearance IMO.

I found this while I was looking for a pic of what was the drive in in my hometown. This one is not, but I liked the pic and wanted to post it. Finding IT
There is a great Drive-In with the largest screen in the US (don't understand the importance of that, but they say it 30 times each night) east of Baltimore. It's called Benjies (http://www.bengies.com/Home.php) We take the kids there 3 or 4 times a year. Definitely a family place with the playground, snack bar, outside seats and old Bugs Bunny cartoons between the movies (my favorite part). There is also a nice video that CNN did on it embedded on the same page.

Actually, this is exactly what MOST drive-ins look like today: the former sites of drive-in theaters. That little plaza there. The screen was a giant wall right against the sidewalk, only with the movie-screen side facing away from the street, of course. -D-RocK-
I knew a kid who foolishly climbed up the back of one of those screens, fell off and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

First movie I remember seeing at a drive-in was Futureworld. Anyone remember it? Was that a sequel to West World ? Yep, sure was. I forget the name of the actor who played the evil robot, but he was enough to give me nightmares. Yul Brynner
