Earthshine
As suggested here is the poll on Les Paul and Robert Moog. An excellent idea, but near impossible to say who changed music more.
invisibleairwaves
If Les Paul had only pioneered the solidbody electric (he actually wasn't the first to make one), this would be too close to call. But he also invented multitrack recording and echo, delay, phaser, and reverb guitar effects, so he wins this round. Bob Moog was certainly a genius too, and his impact is massive and undeniable. Him, Paul, and Leo Fender are probably the 3 most influential innovators in modern music.

tangy
I am going to cop out on this one and go with the equal vote. guitar innovator & multitrack versus moogs creations which seem to create an endless array of sounds?
treeduck
Les Paul, the pioneer of the modern electric guitar opened the way for synths, without the former you probably wouldn't have got the latter...

I disagree. Synths weren't originally developed for rock music; it wasn't until the early 70's that they started getting used by The Who and others. 1-0-0-1-0-0-1
We could sit here and dissect this all day. Maybe one of them did contribute more than the other. In the end it doesn't matter -- today's musical landscape would be totally different without the contributions of BOTH of them.

Exactly they weren't and probably never would have had anything to do with rock music if the genre hadn't developed the way it did through people Les Paul and Leo Fender, encouraging all forms of electronic music.
