My daughter is now 20 but a couple times a few years ago when she was a minor, her and I wanted to go to the US (once to see Dream Theater and once to go to Disneyland ). Anyway, in order to take her across the border, my hubby, the girl's dad, had to get a notarized statement ($30) saying that he gave his permission for me to take her. It's a standard form from a Notary Public. The customs guys asked to see the paper once they saw how old she was. We're happily married (24 years), no problems, nothing. But the feds are on the lookout for kidnappings - it's not uncommon for a parent to "steal" their kid. I just want you to know that crossing the border can be serious business.
