Haha, yeah, I hope you didn't fall asleep during the process of trying to get the shading on his face right and then attempting to fill in all the cracks of hair (one of the dirges of Oekaki.. bleh). Sometimes I go back and watch myself just to see how my process has changed over the years.

What you saw there is basically what I do in Paint Tool SAI, Painter, or Photoshop. Except I usually have a little more detailed sketch and utilize the expanse of brushes and burn, dodge, smudge, and blur tools. But I feel Oekaki forces me to put aside all that and really work on the draw...

 

Haha, was it the "LOLVersion" wallpaper? xD I love that one. It's my current background.

Do you have a DeviantART account? Because several people have been faving my Rush works lately and I have a feeling some of them could be TRF members. I want to watch them if they are.

But I'm stuck on giving Mr. Crabby Kitty a ridiculous name like "Fluffykins" or "Moot". Mainly because I use a Gameshark and go catch myself a Lv. 5 Mewtwo. |3 It's insulting the species but it's hysterical when he dramatically loses to a Caterpie.

(Oh, for shame! I am such an unorthodox game player!)

Another Oekaki.

I was going to make the background a little less.. abstract... but I was SO SICK of working on this thing (probably spent a good five-six hours on it) and working with 3-pixel brushes was getting on my nerves.

So, from this picture I learned a few things:

1. I can't draw Neil Peart that well.

2. I can't draw drums AT ALL.

3. Trying to do details on an Oekaki board is impossible. Do. Not. Attempt.

4. His smile turned out kind of devilish. x3

I'm kind of proud of this, since I stuck it out and finished the stupid thing, but I couldn't draw Neil without his set. It's too epic.

I wonder if the folks at The Sky Temple (where I posted this and the last Oekaki) are getting sick of my Rushianism. ^__^; Eh, I'll get back to teh Pokeymanz eventually.

Now I gotta do Alex Lifeson before midnight. >__>

It sure is! I'm friends with the creator; I've been a member since.. like... as long as I've been a Rush fan. |D (Around 2005, I think?) Hurrr. Shame on me for not finding TRF as quickly! xP

 

It's a good site though. Went through a TOTAL revamp in '07, new domain and everything, and then this past summer got another revamp with a new layout. Good stuff -- and I've found there to be some Rush fans over there too. |3 (But none quite like the obsessed yours truly!)

This isn't strictly Rush-related, per say, but it does have Glenn (one of the characters from my future novels) wearing a Roll the Bones shirt.

 

He is thirteen here, in 1994, when Rush was touring for Counterparts. His dad bought that album the year before, which made Glenn an instant Rush fan after listening to it the first time through. It's quite amazing that Rush could make a twelve-year-old boy love their complex, kickass music. That's how powerful they are.

I drew this while bored in art class. It is a mixture of pastels and colored pencil. The picture of the band was added on after I had scanned the drawing. It's beauty, eh?

Another spontaneous drawing. My iPod was on shuffle and played "Entre Nous," which got me thinking about the two couples in my future novels. The Ying and Yang symbol is for the two very different personalities of the guys in each couple. The two people in those relationships seem to be nothing alike, but they are still joined in bonds of love, as the song says. Chris and Joel were together for twelve years (1979 - 1991) and Glenn and Daran have been together for the last four years.

All of these drawing are so awesome. I can't draw for my life and the closest I've come to creating visual art is a Rush theme I made for the iPhone/iPod Touch three years ago.

These were inspired by the ever-popular "La" emoticon (http://e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/la.gif). It started with Geddy and sprang off from there. They're even PLZ accounts on dA, but here are the original three files:

I was wondering about those, CM. You made them? That's great!

 

I'm trying to get my daughter to draw me a chibi Rush for my avatar. She did a chibi Genesis a few years ago that I really love. I gave her a few Rush pics - pics of them doing silly stuff so she could have some fun. I've even offered to pay her but so far nuthin'

 

BTW, I'm a Pokemon fan, too. The girl got into them when she was 8 or so and I fell for the silly things. I've played pretty much all the GB games up to Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire. I know they are just bits of info on a chip but I'm pretty fond of them. I have not named any after Rush, though.... yet. I'm re-playing Crystal right now and when I catch the Legendary 3 I'm going to borrow Jaye's idea!

I still have yet to own any of the Legendary Dogs on GPX+.. (And I kinda got a bit annoyed the other day because I found another great possible name for Entei if I wasn't calling him Peart But don't worry, I eventually found another 'Mon to call the other name, so my Rush dogs plan hasn't changed! )

BTW, I'd love to see the chibi Genesis! (after whom I have named 5 bird Pokemon on GPX+)

Imageshack screwed up a bit and changed the colors (I was working in CMYK mode when I made this so that's probably why), but I guess this still looks fine. I'll probably finish this some other time, as it's not entirely complete. I almost went insane when I did this, especially when making the face and hair.

Awesome!! I've always wondered how people achieve such an effect as you did there. I'm a relative n00b when it comes to digital art, since I haven't really taken any formal classes.

And -- CS5 for the win. I just got that. Still trying to find all my favourite layer styles and filters (I'm such a filter whore, it's terrible and filthy) but I'm learning it. I've never tried Illustrator though... Unfortunately I didn't invest in the bundle/suite package (whatever they call the multiple-programs thing) so all I have is the regular Photoshop. But I got it with a student discount, at least.

 

Do you like Illustrator best, or are there any programs you prefer for doing art? (:

Well, I don't really have any of the Adobe programs on my laptop, so all I really use at the moment is GIMP. It's enough for me at the moment, though as a graphic design major in college I should really get those programs soon, heh heh. That Geddy illustration was made strictly at school.
