LOL, I'm not one of Neil's gals, but I found this the other day on deviantart.com. It's really really awesome, and I just thought you guys might like it too. (Being as my usual posts are on the Geddy threads, I figured this was my best bet for straight up appreciation. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif)

I just read this passage in Roadshow and thought it was worth posting here. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, searched and didn't find anything.

Based on what Neil writes below, I would think more women would try to get close to the stage and put on a good show for him. Sounds like he would appreciate it. wink.gif

"For reasons I have never understod, our audience has always been predominantly male, 90 percent or more. Some speculate that this gender divide is becaue our music is "aggressive," or because it is technical, and in the '70s, a fatuous record company executive once even referred to our music as "cock rock." It is a mystery to me, although it does seem that the female fans we do have often understand our music in the deepest possible way, appreciating not only its technicality, but its passion, too. They are also often more sensitive to the lyrics - which naturally pleases their author! Perhaps because of their scarcity, I always loved to see females in the audience singing along, or air-drumming, or even dancing. However, given the complexity and constant changes in our music, even their dancing had to be absorbed in the music - no mindless twitching to a metronomic beat. In our song "Force Ten," I had expressed my appreciation for the absorption, "Cool and remote like dancing girls, in the heat of the beat and the lights."

Hey...anybody who wants to get me on the front row, I'll give him a good show. I sing, dance AND air drum! yes.gif

Ask 1001. Hopefully I didn't embarrass him too much at PNC. blush4.gif

Embarrass me? Are you kidding??? During the first set we always seemed to airdrum the same fills, matching them precisely without even thinking about it -- and I'm a musician! Your air-drumming made it look like you understood what he was playing. Embarrassed? Hell, I HOPE people saw me with you! 1022.gif

I haven't read Roadshow, so this passage is a great surprise to me. I've known that female Rush fans aren't common, but seeing that it is a point recognized and addressed by Neil Peart is incredible! I love it:

I would highly recommend the book. I've read it through once and am on my 2nd round.

My wife and I will be in the 2nd row for the KC show... maybe she'll catch his eye with her dancing, air-drumming, etc...?? laugh.gif

Oh, I understand what he's playing, all right. biggrin.gif

Well, good...it would've been hard to pretend you didn't know me, since we were wearing matching shirts. wink.gif
