Which lines come closest in profundity to, say, the cogito or one of the philosophical razors? I think a lot of Peart's lines are compelling (dare I say deep?), but would the argument be made that they are just lyrical rehashings of existing ideas (borrowing as he does from writers all over the place)? Even so, is it a philosophical impulse to repackage such ideas in a way that would reach people who wouldn't otherwise consider them? Is there a best lyric lines thread somewhere? I usually have crap luck with the search system. I do recognize his talent as musician, good reader and his intelligence. He does understand about lots of subjects. But isn't a philosopher at all. Even if those folks are just the young and untested, it's still something, I guess.I do not consider myself 'young and untested', but I can definitely say Neil's lyrics have had a great impact on my life. Pretty much this. No, he's not known as a philosopher, but his thoughts have impact with me. I consider George Carlin a philosopher and part of my homebrewed religion. Modern philosiphers. A substantial part of my life and world view. Not all people who pontificate about anything are going to get recognized as such. That's fine.
