Der Trommler
Amazing fish, TM!!! Unfortunately, LSM forgot her camera. She caught two pickerel (one amazingly sized one....roughly about 18-21 inches in length about 3 pounds-possibly more). As for me, I had two large strikes. One was a very familiar largemouth strike that might have been a reaction strike. As the lure hit the water, I pulled in the line to start retrieval, the bass slammed the bait. I wasn't expecting it as the bass hadn't been hitting topwater all day. I tried to set the hook about a half second too late. I cast out there again but the wind blew it a little over (about 10 feet) away. I started my retreival & a small smallie grabbed the lure (swss11 skitterwalk sure set bait). He didn't fight much until it seemed he saw me. He fought quite a bit after that & as I was going to pull him in, he hooked off & dove. Quite a catch for the day & with the crazy weather we're having, I'm happy to catch one bass.....Soon will come more catches as the water declines & bass feed to prepare for the winter !!!!! Der Trommler
Top 50 greatest lures of all time. Although I disagree on a few, I can't disagree with the list as a whole: http://www.fieldandstream.com/article_gall...s-of-All-Time/

Thanks Sounds like you had a good day!! I just got back myself. We decided to go south this time to check some other rivers. The water was a little high and fishing was slow. We caught about six I guess but nothing really big. After the last couple outings, today was a reality check.

The consensus is to fish closer to the shore but the bass have a tendency to act weird when T-storms are around. Nice smallie! but...uh...what's with the towel? I'll admit it. Big fish give me the hebegebies! I can grab perch and trout and fish like that, and it doesn't bother me. But big scaly fish...I don't like grabbing them. Sad because I don't have a problem gutting deer and putting worms on hooks.
Rhiannon_of_Rivendell
Keep the towel contact to a minimum. You don't want to wipe off any of the protective coat they have exposing them to infection. Have you considered using a grabbing glove? It will protect you from the toothy critters and help with your "hebegebies."
troutman
Fishing was slow yesterday so I took time out to take some pics. other than trout This is a picture of a Sockeye/Red Salmon on his way upstream to spawn. The second pic. is a stretch of river known as the Russian River Falls that they have to endure. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v719/troutbum/IMGP3622.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v719/troutbum/IMGP3620.jpg
