Why is it a thing that during Xanadu everyone in the audience puts up the peace sign? Geddy throws it up too during parts of it, how did it start? Is it literally only because it's from the 70s, and everyone in the 70s just did that, just 'cause? Lol
-
Anybody ever figured out why on earth he does that? I still can't figure it out!! Lol, maybe it's a joke he just does it 'cause he's Geddy, or is there like... A signal to the crew? Something... Lol

This is something I wondered about for a long time: In many live songs, Alex or Geddy trigger a synth sequencer by pressing (and holding, I believe) a specific Taurus pedal. There are many examples, but check out these two where Alex is triggering the sequence: Jacob's Ladder @ 2:47 (https://youtu.be/dzcA8_EkYQ0?t=167), Spirit of Radio chorus @ 2:28 (https://youtu.be/1jxfDuiDtzU?t=148). In the Spirit chorus , Geddy is also playing a synth line manually with his feet :) These sequences are always completely locked in to the timing and tempo of the live song. The Spirit chorus in particular would be train wreck if it wasn't dead-on synched. How is this done? I know Neil is a machine, but I doubt he starts and maintains every live song at the exact same tempo that was programmed into the sequencer! Could the sequencer be somehow "listening" to, say, the bass drum, and synching to that? I doubt Neil is listening to a click track to any songs other than Red Sector A...it wouldn't make sense for him to suddenly "fix" the tempo of a song when a sequence kicks in.... Any ideas?

Am I the only person here who's bothered by the fact that Alex never plays the Earthshine solo live the way it was recorded? As a result I've always felt Earthshine is quite weak live.

I bought my tickets for Vegas a few weeks ago - upper bowl, Alex's side. At the time I was just happy to be buying tickets so I could be in attendance, but you know how these things go...the closer you get to show day, the closer you wish you were to the floor. My question is: has anyone been able to successfully negotiate seat upgrades at the ticket office the day of the show? I'm going to call MGM and ask them this question, but I also wanted to know your experiences. I've heard of some instances in which ushers are lenient and will allow people to move around and fill in empty seats once the show starts. I would be willing to pay a little extra to move up at this point, but I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices the scalpers and bots are asking. Thanks in advance!

For any one who was at the opening night, do you recall the guitars Alex and Ged were playing? There's no equipment tab on the updated Rush website (bummer) but, I'm sure I'm not the only one dying to see the guitars Alex and Geddy brought along! Any pics or links to gear discussions are more than welcome!

If y'all have any videos from any of the concerts on this tour, stick them all in this thread so they are easier to track!! Let's start with any from last night in Tulsa!

I found this below article at Rushisaband.com "Speaking of which, animator Norma V. Toraya (aka Crankbunny) has done some work for Rush on recent tours and looks to be doing some work for the R40 Live tour as well, and she may have given away a potential setlist clue via her Instagram account earlier this week. She put up a post this past Wednesday that included an #R40 hashtag, and showed a computer screen with some animation software running. There were a few movie (.mov) files listed where the filenames contain the words Geddy, Alex and Neil, and in the upper left of the photo was an audio file referencing the title of a Rush song. The Instagram account in question has since been made private, but if you are itching to know what the potential spoiler was, just ask around. It isn't a huge spoiler (assuming it even is a spoiler) in the grand scheme of things since it's not a deep track or anything they haven't played live before." Does anyone know what song it was in reference to?

Hello everyone, Can someone tell me if they're familiar with Rush Radio Live CD? It's released on Sunsplash Records and also shows up on Spotify. Some tracks are butchered and misspelled, but the quality of the recordings is pretty good. Does anyone know where these recordings took place? Trackslisting: La Villa Strangiato, Drum Solo, In The Mood, Bastille Day, Finding My Way, Working Man, Beaneath, Between, Behind, The Spirit Of The Radio, Xanadu, Presentation, Anthe, By-Tor & The Snow Dog, Natural Science, Grand Finale, Discovery, Soliloquy, The Temples Of Syrinx, 2112: Overture. Thanks in advance! Journstyx

Recently, while watching the live version of "A Passage to Bangkok" from the Snakes and Arrows Tour I noticed that Neil doesn't play the drum fills during the chorus. I assume that Neil is extremely embarrassed by the lyrics of that song and not playing the drum fills is his little way of protesting the song. Any thoughts? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kB0vgbB7zs&t=1m2s

A while ago I posted my ultimate Rush concert setlist, which received overwhelmingly negative criticism, with some people accusing me of “trying to destroy Geddy’s voice” and stuff like that. But after a few months of listening to deeper material and noticing trends in recent tours, I have put together a setlist that I hope will satisfy everyone and not bring up any problems. R41 anybody? Set one Dreamline Entre nous Limelight Superconductor Bravado Vital signs Cygnus X-1/Hemispheres instrumental medley Driven Vapor trail Animate New world man Set two The enemy within The weapon Witch hunt Freeze Kid gloves Drum solo/The anarchist Broons bane/Closer to the heart Far cry Headlong flight Subdivisions 2112 (overture/finale)/YYZ Afterimage Time stand still The garden Encore The spirit of radio Tom Sawyer Marathon Like the recent Clockwork Angels tour, this setlist features a lot of deeper tracks from their 80’s catalogue, such as “Kid gloves” and “Entre nous”. The FEAR series is played in its entirety for the first time, and “Broons bane”, a classical guitar piece Lerxst used to begin “The trees” with, serves as the intro to “Closer to the heart”. And finally, there are fan favorites from the 70’s and 90’s included, as well as newer material ranging from Vapor trails to Clockwork angels. I really like this setlist, and seeing it live would be unbelievable. What do you all think?

I just listened to this song a few minutes ago and never really realized how truly cinematic that song is. In fact, I think it's right up there with Red Barchetta, especially in terms of narrative quality. I also realized that I've never seen nor heard them perform it live. It could be a real eye-popper in a live setting. Why do you think they've never bothered to pull that one out of the vault? Too many keyboard parts, perhaps? What say you?

Hey guys. I bet this is a dumb question, but there is no audio cd I can rip to my computer if I buy the DVD or Bluray, right? Basically, if i wanted to listen to it in the car, I would have to buy the cd, correct? I want the Bluray, but I feel like I would get more use out of the cd...

This might be better placed right in the Vancouver thread in Headlong Flights, but... it's near the end of the tour and I wanted to share my experience with anyone interested, not just us Vancouverites! :) Prolouge This was my fourth Rush show since 2008 - last one was Edmonton last year, where I had a phenomenal second-row-immediately-on-Geddy's-side seat with completely unobstructed views. This time around, I decided to go for the floor, get a different angle. I snagged a just-about middle of the 14th row, and thought about getting a zoom-ier camera to take lots and lots of pictures of Geddy a few photos of the show. The day before I left for Vancouver, I picked up an awesome new camera, and with back-up camera, cell phone, and tape recorder packed up, I was ready to go! :P I showed up at the arena quite early - an-hour-and-a-half before the show was to start, and for some reason, hadn't made sure my bladder was empty before getting there. Eesh. I spent about 45 minutes hovering around outside the arena doors, legs crossed, getting mighty antsy. There was a Rush merchandise kiosk outside, which I'd never seen in that kind of place before, so snagged the goodies I wanted, without the horrendous line-ups I endured last time in Edmonton. I got a girl shirt, and, of course, a tour programme. Was happy to notice that there was a full two-page photo of the Edmonton show inside! I finally got inside - made a beeline to the girls' room - and found my seat, all the way down those stairs. Ate a veggie burger (yum!), and sat on my lonesome (yes, me all by myself!), and chatted with neighbours. The lady next to me was seeing Rush for the first time, and I told her it was going to be an amazing show! Then, finally, a wee bit late, the lights dimmed.... The Show I stood up for the opening movie, and didn't sit back down until... well, I didn't sit back down! Not only because I'm kind of shorter than all the guys in front of me, and I want to see, damn it, but because standing at floor level just seems a given, even though there were times a few others around me decided to sit (in fact, one guy near me was actually trying to get everyone around him to sit... like, why? What's the point?). So, I stood and wiggled my butt through 'Subdivisions' - Geddy's singing sounded good - and danced and sang along to every song. The boys were playing really well, as per usual, and the best part is... Geddy was wearing the red shirt I'd hoped he'd wear! Ok, that last part won't interest everyone, but it was still cool to me! And there were moments where he just seemed to dominate the bass, if you get what I mean. Parts of 'The Anarchist' definitely come to mind. And his singing got even better after the first song, so much that 'Halo Effect' sounded even better this time around than on the album, I thought! So, as I was thoroughly enjoying the songs and catching the snippets of stage action that I could in between bobbing heads and hands, I managed to snag a few photos with my shiny new (and red! to match Geddy's shirt!) zoom-y camera. I wanted to have a good balance of taking photos to preserve the moment, and to actually be there in the moment, enjoying myself. And I found an awesome balance. Since I couldn't see much of what was going on, I was responding very much to sound, and communicating my appreciation of the music through my various gesticulations (fist-in-the-air and dancing, and tossing around my hair, mostly!). The setlist was exactly the same as it had been in Edmonton, it turns out, so there were no surprises, but I thoroughly enjoyed it all again. And the Clockwork Angels songs absolutely rocked - they translate so well live! Such a full sound, with the orchestra, and such a great experience to listen to live. I filmed 'The Anarchist' (with my back-up camera, unfortunately, because the battery suddenly died on the new one! :() because, as I explained to the nosey guy beside me, it was "my song". There was a good energy for the CA songs, but the crowd really dug into 'YYZ' through '2112'! Because of my poor ability to see the stage, I didn't see if there was much fun interaction between Geddy and Alex as there usually is, but I caught Geddy jumping a few times. I saw Neil fumble with a drum stick during his third drum solo (which has been remarked upon), but was kind of cute, and I saw Alex get a little mad during - I think - 'Wish Them Well' - I think he wanted his volume turned up, and gesticulated about it a few times, looking a bit miffed. Oh, and I was sandwiched in between a guy that kept lighting up joints (which I don't really have anything against, but the smell really just kind of turns my stomach) and ended up spilling beer on my feet and creasing up my new tour book, and a guy that was aggressively trying to get everyone around him to be as obnoxiously fervent in his cheering as he was. He kept taunting everyone with being a less-enthusiastic crowd because we're Canadians (he's American). It's fine to be exuberant, but I don't think it's cool to be pestering people with how they're choosing to display their enthusiasm; everyone displays their concert energy differently! As for me, even with my dancing, hair-swishing, enthusiastic cheering (at appropriate points, not in the middle of my favourite vocal parts!) and singing along to every single word, it wasn't enough for him. He made fun of my filming 'The Anarchist' (I don't care what you think, buddy - this song means so much to me that I want to treasure it forever!) Afterwards The show seemed to end so quickly! Suddenly, it was over, and I found myself outside, watching over a concrete railing at the tour trucks getting loaded with gear down below. It was pretty cool, actually - a lot of teamwork, efficiency, and speed to get everything loaded up as quickly as possible. There were a lot of people moving around, each doing his (or her!) role. It's neat to see 'the other side' of a show - how much work and labour goes into putting on each show. It's such a huge effort by many people! I got back to the hotel room, and after babbling to my boyfriend for a bit (and admonishing him to talk more quietly, because my ears were ringing something fierce and staticy), I sat down and went through my photos (on three cameras, including my cell phone!), and found some good ones and one that made me burst out laughing. If ever I can get this darn new camera to transfer photos to the computer, I'll share some. So, it was an awesome concert, as always, and a memorable experience. I'm a bit annoyed that I couldn't see much of what was going on - I'm very visual - but I'll know for next time, that the floor just isn't that great for someone under 6 feet tall (why, oh why, didn't I wear my platform shoes?!). I know this is long, but I thought it might be kind of cool to share for those who haven't had a chance to catch the boys on tour, or have never been able to catch them. A Rush show is a remarkable experience, and heartily recommended! And for anyone that was at this show, and want to share your own experience, please do! :) I'd love to hear your stories!

Just gotta give my two cents to what was perhaps one of the greatest Rush Concerts ever put on. As everyone predicted the small arena made the Sound Quality spectacular beyond compare. Every note was crystal clear and not muffled in any way (not counting when it's supposed to sound muffled) and Geddy's voice was almost perfect, especially on subdivisions which sounded so close to the album it was mind blowing. Though the concert had a minor flub or two, and I had a personal bad experience with a drunk guy just getting into my car that would not leave and got grabby when I shouted for help (thanks mystery rush fans that helped), the concert could only compare to me hearing the set for the first time in Winnipeg under complete surprise. Other highlights include the fact that though the set was A, Limelight was played (Body Electric is not a personal favorite), and the other 3 songs (all of which I prefer their B variants by a tiny bit) were played magnificently (particularly the solo at the end of Bravado), the hall was more compact, so it had more hard-core Rush Fans (I swear I heard singing for their big hits), I had a seat which gave a full view of the lighting rig (it was really colorful for this show I realised) Alex's singing was audible a couple of times and it actually sounded pretty good, the unique Red Deer Shirt for sale was great, and finally, Geddy seemed to be having the time of his life at this show. I know he probably smiles the most of the three, but he just seemed so happy to do this show. Oh one last thing, Alex conducted the orchestra during YYZ and it was glorious. Apologies to everyone who could not make this amazing concert, and thanks to Rush for donating their time and efforts to everyone in Calgary. What did everyone else think of the show?

I just watched a video the RRHOF posted showing what memorbilia the newley inducted bands donated, and I was horrified to See Alex's Double neck in there. Though it will be neat to see in the museum, it also means that the next preformance of Xanadu will be even less authentic (if we ever get Xanadu again). I understand that it hurts alex's back to play it, but still, Xanadu was my last song on my top 5 list to hear live, and now it will be slightly less special to not see his double neck played. One last insult to me was that he gave such a prominent peice of memorbilia to the museum that kept them out 13 years, as I feel the guitar deserves a better home. What does everyone else think. BTW the other memorbilia in the video was Neil's S&A cap, a pair of sticks, and a snare (I could not tell which kit it was from) and one of Geddy's Fender Jazz basses with one of the clockwork angels symbols. It's a nice contrast with Alex's old Guitar and Geddy's new Bass

I was watching a live video of Territories with the animation in the backround, and I noticed that one of the inflatables had a QR code on it, has anyone been able to scan that? Could anyone let me know what it leads to if it's been done. Ever since I saw it I have been pondering what joke they probably linked it to and don't want to wait for the DVD to get it.
