  1. Power trio? Check. Kimonos? Check. Long songs? Check. Terrible videos? Check. Straight guy on stage right, crazy guy on stage left? Check. 17 albums made? Check. Man, I can't believe it. http://youtu.be/rtyflMxqAUw
  2. Spirit of Radio ranked No. 18 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04f7xn6/live
  3. Very quiet on the Rush front. Has anyone ever used Hemispheres as an alarm clock? When hosting parties and wanting to get rid of people in the morning, used to crank the volume up, put Hemispheres on and watch and wait.
  4. All quiet on the Rush front, Saturday afternoon here in Tasmania and listening to Subdivisions and thought of my favourite phrase of the moment which is; 'Somewhere out of a memory, Of lighted streets on quiet nights' What's yours?
  5. HELLO RUSH FANS, Come listen to RUSH'S greatest hits off of each album NEXT WEDNESDAY at 10:00-AM to 12PM EST. I will be reviewing each album with one to two songs played to highlight what I feel showcases each album best. I encourage all RUSH FANS to stream it at http://www.progrock.com or for mobile purposes go into TUNE IN Radio app, for android and iphone, and add a custom URL of http://nyc01.egihosting.com:2730/ I love rush, and I'm sure you do too, SO stream us!! Thank you all for the consideration of attending.
  6. I'm assuming that there can't be too many TRFers who are into Electric Six, but I just read this post on the bands facebook from a couple of days ago and thought that y'all would find it pretty neat. https://www.facebook...-6/154062438761 Hamilton, Ontario has birthed some giants in the arts and entertainment sphere. Comedy legends Martin Short, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas of Second City and SCTV are Hamiltonians. Famed Hollywood director Ivan Reitman also hails from Hamilton, as does contemporary dance/pop act Junior Boys. The focus of Electric Six's discussion today is not on any of these figures, giant as they are. Instead, we choose to discuss Neil Peart, drummer for Canada's most successful rock band ever, Rush. Peart didn't have an easy climb to the top of Rock Drummer Mountain, Crazies. Before joining Rush, he lived in London where work was so scarce for him that he was reduced to selling souvenirs to tourists just to survive. Despite his awesome skin work, Neil wasn't finding things easy, but he didn't pity himself. While in London, he discovered the works of Objectivist writer and libertarian pin up girl Ayn Rand. Rand's boostrap ethos inspired Peart to not give up and to not look to the government for any drumming related handouts. He returned to Canada to work for his father and played in an Ontario band called Hush (rhymes with "Rush," doesn't it, Crazies?). After he toiled that way for awhile, he got tipped to an opportunity to audition for Rush (not Hush) and after making a strange impression, got the gig. The rest was history, as his manic drumming style and lyrical content proved inspirational to millions of nerds worldwide. Neil Peart is a classic example of what happens when you refuse to quit and apply hard money principles to one's life. On Wednesday, July 16, Electric Six will purposefully stride upon a stage at The Casbah in Hamilton, Ontario and will do so with zero assistance from the government. Like Neil Peart, Electric Six is a firm believer in the gold standard and the primacy of the individual above all else. Electric Six worries about rampant inflation and the eroding value of its money. Yet, it doesn't worry nearly as much about having to roll in a wheelbarrow full of dollars to buy a loaf of bread as it does giving the Crazies a good time each and every night. For approximately 70 minutes, inclusive of encore, Electric Six is gonna bust a musical cap in the ass of Hamiltonian Crazies. Percussion World is not Neil Peart and he doesn't have anywhere close to the same sized kit that man uses, but he's gonna lay down a non-stop beat a Crazy won't be able to resist. Percussion World is going to apply Austrian Economics principles to the drums on Wednesday night and you'll see where that gets you, Crazy. It gets you where you want to go. 2 days ago
  7. I am debating between Clockwork Angels and Fly By Night to be their hardest albums IMO. What do you guys think is their hardest, most metal-like album?
  8. k3no444

    Caress of Steel

I wanted to know what everyone's view is of this album. I created a blog post about this album and have received a lot of positivity towards this album, which makes me relieved! I personally love this album, especially the last two songs. What do you guys think? Check out my blog! http://kenoalbumreviewer.blogspot.com/2014/07/rush-caress-of-steel.html?m=1
  9. I've always known that Geddy's parents were Holocaust survivors. Recently, I learned that they actually met in the concentration camp. They were even separated at one point, but through some miracle of human perserverance they were able to reunite and create a life together. The story is as poignant as it is tragic; and I couldn't help but be moved almost to tears. I got to thinking: without the holocaust, without the most awful and despicable event in modern human history, there would be no Geddy Lee, there would be no Rush. So, it begs the question, was it worth it??
  10. Listening to FTK this morning and examining the lyrics I couldn't help but think of the similarities to Game of Thrones, Hadn't seen to much about this online, but for a Zeppelin forum where someone brought it up, what are your thoughts? I only got into Game of Thrones in the past 6 months so didn't put these 2 together before that... Any GoT and FtK fans out there ? :)
  11. Can't wait until the next tour comes in around next year, I really want to finally get in the front row for a show without paying the after sale prices, need some help getting first pick at tix.... Who else in RI, MA, CT, NH area willing to help? Closest I've been is 2nd row... At least once, love to be a lucky one to get in the front and center!!! I'll bring my BLAH license plate to hold up!!!
  12. A while ago I posted my ultimate Rush concert setlist, which received overwhelmingly negative criticism, with some people accusing me of “trying to destroy Geddy’s voice” and stuff like that. But after a few months of listening to deeper material and noticing trends in recent tours, I have put together a setlist that I hope will satisfy everyone and not bring up any problems. R41 anybody? Set one Dreamline Entre nous Limelight Superconductor Bravado Vital signs Cygnus X-1/Hemispheres instrumental medley Driven Vapor trail Animate New world man Set two The enemy within The weapon Witch hunt Freeze Kid gloves Drum solo/The anarchist Broons bane/Closer to the heart Far cry Headlong flight Subdivisions 2112 (overture/finale)/YYZ Afterimage Time stand still The garden Encore The spirit of radio Tom Sawyer Marathon Like the recent Clockwork Angels tour, this setlist features a lot of deeper tracks from their 80’s catalogue, such as “Kid gloves” and “Entre nous”. The FEAR series is played in its entirety for the first time, and “Broons bane”, a classical guitar piece Lerxst used to begin “The trees” with, serves as the intro to “Closer to the heart”. And finally, there are fan favorites from the 70’s and 90’s included, as well as newer material ranging from Vapor trails to Clockwork angels. I really like this setlist, and seeing it live would be unbelievable. What do you all think?
  13. Dear Rush fans, this is Alberto Rigoni, prog rock bass player and composer from Italy. First time on this forum, nice to meet you! As a big fan of Rush and Geddy Lee I made the bass cover of Tom Sawyer: Hope you like it! Rush forever! Alberto p.s. if this topic is in the wrong thread please move it.
  14. So, besides being a big Rush fan, I really love Tool. Recently I went to their show in Portland and splurged on a VIP pass, which included a Q&A and meet and greet with Adam (Jones, the guitarist, if you're not into the band). I've read a lot of interviews where Alex praises Adam's guitar playing/composition as a fan and an influence, so I wanted to ask Adam if he felt the same way. He told me he "absolutely loves" Rush, and would go to sleep listening to them, then wake up and start listening again - especially when he was younger. He also said that 2112 was his "musical awakening". Apart from that the Tool VIP was a great experience: seats in the second row, Adam talked for a couple hours to the group and demonstrated some guitar playing techniques as well as playing the song Jambi for us. I even got to strum his Les Paul! Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I thought I'd share. Check out Tool if you haven't before, and maybe someday their new album will come out.
  15. I don't think anyone's asked this question yet, and I'm sure it's an important one to somebody. You think this would make a good onscreen sketch? Discuss.
  16. Sometimes it's hard to admit certain truths to yourself and some of your fellow fans in the Rushverse, but I'm going to try listing a few things anyway. If I missed any hard facts, please do not hesitate in providing your own. Also, if you don't like this post, please do not kill me. You know, because you can go to jail for that. 1.) Rush consists of three guys. That's one for each 1/3 of the millions of Rush fans everywhere. So if they can't talk to you, it's probably not personal. 2.) You really don't have to agree with Ayn Rand to be a fan. By the time the band released Power Windows during the Reagan Era, it was clear that Neil Peart lost that view himself. So don't think that Neil doesn't wish he had a time machine so he could go back and take that dedication off of the "2112" liner notes. He will never live that s**t down, so try to at least not make it worse. 3.) Alex will not stop being Alex, but even he has his limits. Please do not get yourself thrown in jail with your local gang of hardcore freaks as your inmates in order to learn this incredibly important fact. 4.) Yes, Geddy is Jewish. No, it's not a conspiracy. If anything, Geddy came from a long line of people who had to think fast just to not get killed. S**t like that will teach you a lot about life and how to be resourceful, no matter who you are. 5.) If you keep rocking the stage and the whole thing collapses, it really will be a big bummer. Seriously, cut that out before people die.
  17. The Rush Ratings Project Results: Thanks to everyone who participated in this project. Sorry it took so long to release the results. If anyone would like to submit their rankings to be added to the list, please make a post here http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?/topic/85610-the-rush-ratings-project/ once a substantial amount of votes, or time passes, I will re-compile the results. A special shout out to Babycat who gave every song a 10 which was a null vote (for only increasing every song’s rank relatively equally), but attention is deserved for such positivity and undying devotion to Rush. A reminder, here was the rubric for ranking. Also all averages were rounded to 4 decimal places, and ties were settled by which song received a lower grade in the lowest rank given section (ties in that were disputed by how many of that lowest grade was received). 10. One thing I would like to point out is that Take A Friend was the only rush song that did not secure at least one rating of 8 or higher. Interesting Album Ratings: #. 18. This is a hypothetical question, of course. We're just making this up for fun.

  20. Hey Everyone! This post may come off as rather odd or weird but I wanted to get this down because I have been thinking about it for quite a while. Please don't argue with me and say the band is still in 'their prime'. I saw the Clockwork Angels tour and it blew my face off - it was amazing. For the purposes of this post I am talking about the earlier years (release of Moving Pictures, etc etc) I am a relatively 'new' fan. I am 31 years old - most of the band's material was released before I really got into them and dove into their entire catalog. That being said, whenever I watch older videos like the Limelight or Tom Sawyer vids from LeStudio I get this overwhelming feeling of sadness mixed with nostalgia that I will never know what it was like to hear those albums when they were released - never see those tours when they happened, etc. I can only experience the band in that era via the catalog of music and watching old videos on YouTube. I know what you might be thinking: "he shouldn't feel sad listening to Rush! They are amazing and the music should be celebrated!". This is true and believe me I feel this. I am just taking a moment to whine and wish I was around when those albums were fresh and totally new at the time. Does anyone want to chime in on this? What it was like to run out and buy those albums when they were released, see those tours, so on and so forth!
  21. This also identifies who Rush voted for for the Hall in 2014. http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2013/12/14/3882/Chris-Squire-wants-Rush-to-induct-Yes-into-the-Rock-Hall
  22. Hello Everyone I have always been curious about what the forum member's general consensus was all of Rush's Catalogue of Song's. Sure there are polls all around to figure out what the best song off a particular album is, but I am more curious about what everyone thinks of Rush songs, not from a best-of perspective, but an individual ratings perspective. Being inspired by The They Might Be Giants Fan Wiki, and an earlier forum that ordered the Clockwork Angels songs based on another forum, I have started The Rush Ratings Project. I have written out every studio album song (excluding feedback). All I ask that you do is that you copy and paste the list and write a number between 0-10 beside each song (and album too, we may as well figure that out as well) with what you think it deserves as a rank. I am giving everyone the month of december to write (and possibly re-write if they change their mind) their ratings in, and then I will take up the daunting task of figuring out the average number for each song, and print the results for all to see. I hope that everyone will take the time to do this for me, to help my curiosity, and hopefully your's too! First of all, some Rules: Please use a single digit number when entering a rating, this will make it much faster for me to compile the results Please leave a single space between each song and the number Please do not make any edits to the song list itself, or add any text, thoughts, etc. as when I compile the list I will be copying everyone's list's into word, and then using the find/replace tool to remove the song names, and adding extra text just takes that much more time to this job. Putting text at the beggining or end of your post is fine Please do not quote anyone else's list just so you can comment on it. It will clutter up the forum. If it is desperatly needed, I can make a discussion forum. If you can't/don't want to rate a specific song (either because you have never heard it, or just don't feel you have a good enough opinion of the song), leave it blank. NO EXTRA VOTES! I will be doing name checks. If you change your mind about a rating, please simply edit your original post Do not write any number bigger than 10 or less than 0. I will not count it regardless of the reason you have Rate BU2B as the album version, not the single version Rate the Vapor Trails songs once, do not give separate ratings for the original and remixed albums. Posts with all 10's (or any other single number) will not be counted, at least some variety must be present to make it worth adding to the list. Other wise it only raises and lowers every song equally and proportionatly. Don't complain about the abbreviated Cygnus X-1 Titles, or other missing subtitles. It was done in the effort of conserving space Once again, the deadline for submissions is December 31st. After that date I will begin moving all the info to my various programs to figure out the average, so any edits or posts made after the date will most likely not make the ratings. If new lists keep coming anyway, I will consider making this a semianual event where I periodically add the new ratings to the totals. Thanks again everyone for taking your time. Before we get to the list (which by the way I will add my own ratings to later, I just have some tough decisions to make), I just wanted to provide a sort of rubric for people to go by. Though you are free to interpretations, I think this is a fair way to judge the songs, and hopefully will help spread out the ratings. 10. Perfect 9. Near-Perfect 8. Excelent 7. Great 6. Good 5. 23. Yes, i know that rush is taking a year off from touring. However i still see them doing a late fortieth anniversary tour (R40 anyone?) when they return. So how should we spend this upcoming year while we wait for Rush to return? By creating the best setlists for the next tour. R30 was great, but they really focused on stuff from the late 80s and 90s, as well as their cover songs from feedback. This next tour should include songs from their early albums, as well as songs they havent played in a while (seriously, name the last time they played fly by night!). So heres my ultimate setlist, dominated with 70s and 80s classics, but still having more recent stuff peppered here and there. Set one Bastille day Time stand still Roll the bones Lessons OR making memories Vital signs One little victory Limelight The trees Subdivisions Medley combining cygnus x-1 and hemispheres Far cry Set two Tom sawyer Closer to the heart In the mood/drum solo Caravan Fly by night Farewell to kings YYZ Animate Spirit of radio Working man Red barchetta La villa strangiato (with polka intro from time machine tour) Encore Passage to bangkok Red sector A 2112 (overture+finale) Marathon
  24. I havent been seeing a lot of really smart or unbias lists for the top 50 greatest rush songs, so i decided to make one of my own. Its taken me about a week, but i finally finished. Its still a work in progress though and will probably be changed around some more in the future. Please enjoy and give feedback in the comments. I love to hear from other fellow rush fans! 1. 25. Here's an article I came across about someone claiming why Rush and Terry Brown will have a nice little family reunion in the studio. ;) It's interesting, now that I think of the possibilities. http://rushvault.com/2013/10/16/why-rush-and-terry-brown-will-reunite-for-another-album/#pd_a_7480680
