  1. Not sure how old this is, or if it's been shared here before, but I had never seen it before today and I though it was hilarious!
  2. Well, I have been a rush fan since 1980. I owned all the albums on vinyl when I was a kid, and I purchased all of the CD's as they were released. I never bought the 97 remasters, so my only frame or reference for the last 20 + years has been those original CD's and my memory of what the vinyls sounded like way back in the day. In the late 80's I worked as an audio engineer...I have since moved on to a career in television, but I still write and record music and I think I have a pretty good ear for these things. I am also fortunate that I now have the stereo system I could have only dreamed of as a kid. It didn't cost 20k, but it was a few thousand with all the speakers, etc. I got all 3 sector sets for the holidays, and I have to say...I think the quality of the audio on all the disks is exceptional. Way better than what I have been listening to all of these years. I also really like the surround mixes. They wouldn't be my go-to choice, but they are fun to listen to. I think it all comes down to personal preference, but I for one am glad that they exist and I am glad that I upgraded.
  3. QUOTE (thizzellewashington @ Nov 22 2011, 07:26 PM) So can anyone talk about how they sound? Wondering if it's worth $150 to upgrade my collection from the 97 remasters. Yes, please fill us in. I have all the original releases on CD, not the remasters, so I am ready to buy, but want to know how they sound :-)

    James Hogg?

Geddy credits a James Hogg with making custom pick guards for his basses. Anyone know anything about him, and if he does commissions? I have a friend who just bought Fenders Geddy Lee bass and he would love to make it look like the one Geddy actually plays. Any info would be appreciated!
  5. Anyone know what type of straps Alex uses? I'd love to put the proper strap on my Gibson Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  6. QUOTE (Can-Utility @ Oct 29 2011, 07:32 AM) Rather Far Cry than TSoR, that just needs to get dropped already Blasphemy :-) My all time favorite song!! I don't care if they open with it, close with it or play it somewhere in between, but when I see Rush (and I have seen every tour since Grace Under Pressure) I need to hear TSOR!!

    War Paint

QUOTE (rushgoober @ Oct 30 2011, 01:15 PM)I think they lyrics are pretty terrible. The concepts presented are worthwhile, but it's such a heavy-handed goofy delivery getting them across. A perfect example of how music impacts us all in different ways, I love the song and the message it delivers and don't find it to be cheesy at all. All opinions are respected when it comes to music, it's such a personal thing.
  8. I live in NY, but I'd hate to see them play Yankee Stadium. It's a great place to see a ball game, but it's not a great venue for a concert. I saw Paul McCartney there this past summer, the sound wasn't great and unless you had a floor see up front, all the other seats in the stadium were REALLY far away from the stage or on a strange angle to the stage. I'd much prefer they do a few nights at MSG or Jones Beach than one big show at Yankee Stadium.
  9. Funny, I am not a huge fan of VT, I do like OLV, Ghost Rider, Secret Touch and Earthshine...but over all it is probably my least favorite Rush album (followed by Test For Echo and Roll The Bones) but I am such a big Rush fan that I even love the stuff that I don't love. A bad Rush song is better than the best songs by some less bands / artists.. That being said, my friend Scott...who's musical opinions I trust and put a lot of weight in, and who is a very accomplished Bass player in his own right...VT is his all time favorite Rush album. It's all so very subjective. I would love a re-mixed version at some point.

    Rush Guitar Picks

QUOTE (USB Connector @ Aug 26 2011, 09:04 PM)I recommend getting that pick display that they were selling during this tour. It has 10 picks you don't have. http://www.rushbackstage.com/rushbackstage...up-magnet-.html I do have them, but I didn't have the heart to take them out of the holder to add them to the display. I got a second set for my who who also plays...he has been using his (makes me cringe every time!!) but he's 12, so I have to give him a pass!

    Rush Guitar Picks

A few months ago I started collecting Rush guitar picks. So far I have 17 different ones (18 in the frame, 2 are doubles so I am displaying one from the front and the other from the back). I need 6 more to fill this frame. If anyone has some that I don't have, I'd love to buy or trade for them!! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6320832/rushpicks.jpg

  15. Since I started this thread, I though I would share my progress. I became interested in Rush guitar picks when I saw the pick set for sale at the merch booth at the Time Machine Tour show that I saw last summer. Over the last few months I have been collecting RUSH guitar picks, I have a few here to share and a few more on the way from various sources... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6320832/pick1.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6320832/pick2.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6320832/pick3.jpg If anyone has picks or sale or to trade, please let me know!
  16. Got this back today from Portland. So psyched that they used the silver pen I sent along, it stands out nicely on the dark cover :-) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6320832/2112.jpg
  17. So very, very cool!!! Happy B-Day!
  18. Very nice. Since my name is Barry also, I'd gladly take it off your hands if you ever decided you didn't want it anymore :-)
  19. I've been playing the guitar for 31 years. Most of that time has been sent playing Rush songs with varying degrees of success. Some songs sounded better when I was 20, others I can play better now. Just today , I ordered the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess from Gibson, should have it in about a week, so hopefully it will inspire me to "get my Alex on" a bit better. I agree wit what has been said, been saying it for years myself...Alex is one of the most underrated guitarists alive...guess it's hard when you are in a band with Geddy Lee and Neil Peart to get the credit you deserve as a musician.
  20. I got this pick on eBay from a seller in Stockholm who says he is a stage hand and that he picked it up off the stage after the show on May 6th. It is not quite as dirty in person as it looks in the scan, but it shows some signes of usage. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6320832/pick.jpg what do you think...any chance this really was used by Lerxt during the show?
  21. QUOTE (sanzo @ May 23 2011, 04:35 PM)he gave me some guitar picks, saying alex uses them everynight That's so awesome. I have just started collecting Alex's guitar picks...if you have any doubles or extras that you would be interested in parting with, PLEASE let me know....I am paying top dollar :-)
  22. QUOTE (Scottishdood @ May 15 2011, 12:37 PM) Well....not to P on everyones Strawberries here BUT...if you had come for a smoke with me at the break at the SECC you would have had a chance encounter with Tony Geranious ( What you mean you dont know who he is? ) I just went over had a little chat as he enjoyed his smoke break and walked away with a few plectrums which he handed over without me even asking for them!! http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x435/qks1/Photo0682.jpg color me EXTREMELY jealous!
  23. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ May 15 2011, 09:30 AM)QUOTE (Barry @ May 15 2011, 08:50 AM) I know that you can buy Neil's drum sticks on line...I picked up a pair of the Time Machine sticks from the Rush site, but does anyone know of a way to buy the guitar picks that Geddy and Alex use on their tours (other than eBay)? I'd love to start a collection of their picks, just don't know where to start :-) Ged uses his fingers, as a real bassist should. Lerxt has not yet marketed his picks. So it's ebay, R30. OR bust...or get front row on alex's side and beg. I know Geddy uses his fingers :-) but the fact is, if you look on eBay...there are a number of picks available from multiple tours that claim to be Geddy's and they look authentic, with his signature printed on the back...so I assumed that they do make picks for Geddy. Either that, or they are customs / fakes.
