  1. KISS... And, if the RARHOF ends up inducting Guns N Roses (on the merit of 3 albums) or Donna Summer before KISS, the ridiculousness of the long Black Sabbath snub will have been eclipsed exponentially.

I've looked all over the inter-web, and can't seem to find it (prolly due the the amount of "official" content in it). Can anyone hook me up? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqHBL1CIq_w This has officially been released on VHS back in 1988. I wonder why it hasn't been released yet on DVD. People have made VHS transfers and put it on DVD. I was hoping someone here might have it on DVD. There's actually a DVD-transfer from the US laserdisc called "The Definitive Edition". It was made by a company called "Pigs On The Wing". The release number is POTWDVD022

I already own Images & Words, A Change of Seasons, Octavarium, and A Dramatic Turn of Events. I have also heard Scenes From a Memory. Outside of these albums, what recommendations do you have for me as far as albums that I should check out next? "Awake" should be your next album In order of priority: Awake Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Train of Thought Falling Into Infinity Couldn't agree more. This is definitely the correct plan for attacking the albums you don't have.
  4. QUOTE (Albone2112 @ Sep 16 2011, 02:55 AM) Under a Glass Moon, with Learning to Live a close second My thoughts exactly!
  5. For me, this new album is bringing some of the heaviness of the Bush-era and the thrashiness of Belladonna together. It's definitely a more mature-sounding Belladonna album. I love it. "In The End" was written for Dio and Dimebag (who contributed solos to the first 3 Bush Anthrax albums). Yesterday was "Anthrax Day" in the Bronx. They played a killer set at The Big 4 show at Yank-Me Stadium.
  6. 2011-09-13 - The Big 4 (Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica) - Yankee Stadium, NY 2011-10-11 - Dream Theater - Morristown, NJ
  7. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Sep 13 2011, 12:08 PM) QUOTE (cfmoran13 @ Sep 13 2011, 10:19 AM)Thankfully, people have started coming to their senses and The Beatles are coming out on top... don't get too self-satisfied, cf there's plenty of "I like 'em better" voting going on (on both sides), so this poll isn't going to reflect much except what TRF members like to cue up on the turntable most QUOTE (cfmoran13 @ Sep 13 2011, 10:19 AM)...The Beatles revolutionized rock and roll......by accident I'm sorry, but that statement has been abused for far too long (and without proper perspective) - nothing personal, cf - but I tend to 'call' pop-culture laziness when it's so egregious Obviously, it's nothing more than a "like 'em better" poll. And, like I've said, Yes is a good band. But, there's just no way to compare the merits of The Beatles and Yes. The Beatles helped create vocal harmony techniques that hadn't been seen up until that point. Techniques that Yes seem to be quite fond of. And, if you look, you'll see that some of Yes' earliest shows included Beatles covers. So, in some respect, they were influenced by The Beatles. Didn't their first album contain a Beatles cover? And, I'd like to see what you base your "by accident" comment on. The majority of what The Beatles did in the studio seems to be very calculated. Very little was done "by accident". But, like you said, it's all opinion. And, I'm not looking to start a pissing match with anyone. Enjoy listening to your Yes CD's if that's what you like better.
  8. Thankfully, people have started coming to their senses and The Beatles are coming out on top. Yes may be a good band (not a huge fan, myself). However, The Beatles revolutionized rock and roll. Each album they did pushed the boundaries of the current music scene just a little further. And, their songs are timeless! Incidentally, Rolling Stone has a really good magazine on the racks right now going album by album with The Beatles. Very good read. It was cool to read some of the back stories that I'd never heard before.
  9. QUOTE (metaldad @ Aug 3 2011, 02:54 PM) I was one of the people that went more than once. Where are they playing in n.j ? The only times I went more than once were back in 2000 on the SFaM tour (Sea Bright, NJ, Philly and Roseland NYC) and for the SDoIT Beacon Theatre shows (Absolutely fantastic! Master Of Puppets ruled!) They're playing the Morristown Community Theatre on October 11, 2011. I was able to get 2 tix in Row D this morning. Can't wait! Incidentally, I noticed the name of your son. It looks fairly obvious but, was he named for Zakk Wylde and Dimebag? Or, is it simply a coincidence?
  10. QUOTE (metaldad @ Aug 3 2011, 02:30 PM) I'm about as big a DT fan as you're gonna find on here (just got my tickets today to my 23rd DT show). And, Mike definitely took ownership over a lot of the non-musical stuff (press, bootleg discs, setlists, etc) in addition to his awesome drumming. But, they're gonna survive. As has already been said, they have a more than capable drummer replacing him. They've all been more visible in interviews and social networks. They're still doing meet and greets (a little expensive for my liking). And, the setlist is probably gonna be the same for the majority of the tour. Keep in mind, MP had played all of this stuff since its inception. MM came onboard less than a year ago. Learning one setlist of their material for a tour is enough. Asking him to learn an additional 10-20 of their complex songs is a little daunting. PLUS, it sounds like the creative process for the new album might have been a bit more enjoyable for the rest of them than it has been in the past. And, their live shows from this tour sound great. If you like DT, pick up the new album next month, keep an open mind and see what happens. It's an exciting time for them. ll be running out on release day to get it. I can't wait to be sitting in the 5th row watching my favorite band in October. [/quote] I have a totally open mind, I just don't like the new song. Sounds like they went back to 1994. I have seen every tour they have done so I won't miss this one. The same set every night is lame. Mangini said they are doing that so the show runs smooth. Portnoy was prob the only one that wanted the set change. Meet & greet? No thanx, i don't pay to meet anyone. I admit that the revolving setlists were awesome! DT fans were very spoiled because nobody does that. But, the only time that really came into play was if you were seeing more than one show of a tour. I'm only going to see the NJ show. So, it doesn't really matter to me.
  11. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 19 2011, 07:48 AM) The last two releases really turned on the strong dislike with me. Although I do like The Count, even if the lyrics are a bit cheesy. Systematic Chaos is definitely not one of my favorites. But BC&SL was pretty good. The Count isn't one of the best tracks on the album. However, I've definitely warmed up to it. Though, that's the one song on there I can say I like the instrumental version better than the full version.
  12. I don't think it's hate. I think the focus is on that one because it was their last album and because it was their highest charting album to date, coming in at #6 on the US Billboard charts.
  13. QUOTE (Earthshine @ Jul 16 2011, 01:08 PM) I look at how bands such as Rush have been through so much and have been together for so long and how they handle it all. And Yes too with all that has happened with them in 43 years. Just sayin'. Including Yes in your argument for a band weathering problems is kinda silly. Over those 40+ years, how many incarnations of Yes have there been? Certainly more than one. And, weren't there a lot of problems between Yes and ABW&H as far as who everyone thought should be able to play particular songs? People are people. They say and do silly things sometimes. Just read some of the posts in this thread! As for the Buddy Rich comment... Think what you like but Portnoy IS a good drummer. Period! The dude can run circles around many/most drummers in his genres. And, who cares if someone can or can't play jazz?!? Jazz isn't the be-all-end-all of music. Dream Theater do what they do very well. You can either like it or not. Is there some wankery going on in some of their music? Absolutely! I don't love everything they've done. There are some parts in some songs that I don't think are particularly necessary. But, that's just my opinion. Someone else may love those parts. Personally, I love their music and can't wait for the new album. Like what you like. Debate what you want. But, have some validity to your points. C'mon, September 13th!!!
  14. If anyone is interested in buying them cheap, I have the first 5 seasons on blu-ray. If it's against the rules to post that, pretend I never typed it. I wish it was an hour show. These half-hour shows seem to be over in like 5 minutes. Just as soon as any momentum is built up, the episode is over.
  15. Having never seen Freaks & Geeks, this was the first place I had seen Seth Rogen. I thought it was a pretty funny show. I didn't know it was Apatow's show until t his thread.
  16. QUOTE (Fred Star @ Jun 29 2011, 06:33 PM)Have only two DT albums.. Score the other, Chaos. How does Chaos compare to their other work. Bought the Score DVD too.. pretty good that.. thoroughly enjoyed. IMO, Systematic Chaos is one of their weakest albums. My suggestion would be to pick up or borrow Images and Words, A Change Of Seasons and Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence. A lot of people would recommend Scenes From A Memory, too. It's a pretty good "concept" album. But, I would still put those other 3 above it.

  18. QUOTE (metaldad @ Jun 27 2011, 09:41 AM) Great show on fri. I was not sure if i was going but said WTF. They played from 830 till 10pm . They looked like they were having the time of their lives. 2 songs i was not thrilled about were the Radio type songs they did. Also , they were not as Heavy as i thought they would be. I thought this would be a Steam Train from start to finish . The covers were great, they opened with Mob Rules and closed with War Pigs, they also did Stand Up And Shout from Dio and a Duran Duran song They do not sound like Disturbed or Godsmack [thank god] Some Pantera-ish riffs with a little BLS thrown in. Portnoy kicked ass as did everyone. I gotta say Mike Orlando is a bit much . All the solo's almost sound the same. No feeling what so ever, but i am sure once i know the songs it might sound different on c.d. I have been a fan of Rich Ward for years, Stuck Mojo kicked ass , but they should have let him do some leads. Great night and it was only $10 , but then agian, so were the Beers Actually, I thought that the one song "Are You Feeling Me" (or whatever it was called) had a very heavy Disturbed influence. That was really the only one that stuck out. Definitely straight-ahead guitar rock/ metal, though. As people keep pointing out, there is nothing proggy about this. One of the reasons Rich Ward didn't have as much of a part is that he only came into the band a few weeks ago. The album was already written and recorded. One of the highlights for me was their cover of "High Wire" from Badlands. It was awesome! As were all of the covers, including Duran Duran's "Come Undone". He definitely sings Dio live better than just about anyone else I've ever heard!
  19. It said the dogs were killed by another (and way more aggressive) dog. Really weird either way. Dude is seriously damaged. After pissing off Stanley & Simmons the first time in the 80's, they gave him another shot to write in the 90's and he sues them. He's been working on his Guitarmageddon album for 15-20 years. What a waste!
  20. I just picked this up on blu-ray at Blockbuster for $4.28. Can't wait to watch it.
  21. 1. The Colour And The Shape 2. Wasting Light 3. One By One 4. There Is Nothing Left to Lose 5. In Your Honor 6. Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace 7. Foo Fighters The new album kicks total @ss. But, I think TCatS is their best work so far. The first album is totally impressive because Dave wrote and played the entire thing himself. But, going strictly on the merit of the songs themselves, it's at the bottom of my list. But, their "worst" is still way better than most bands' best work.
  22. 'Ten' all the way! Never was an Andrew Wood fan. And, 'Ten' is one of the albums that my Freshman year in college revolved around. If my CD was a vinyl record, I would've worn out the phonograph needle. Plus, it's a solid album from beginning to end. Unlike most other Pearl Jam albums (IMHO), there isn't a clunker on it.
  23. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards - The Rolling Stones (coming up on FIFTY years!)
  24. I just bought 5th row center tix for $50/each to see Queensryche play a hall with a capacity of 1300 people. I remember seeing them headline and sell out The Meadowlands in NJ on the Empire tour. Granted, they haven't been the same band since DeGarmo left. Honestly, I haven't bought an album of theirs since Q2K. But, to see them in such a small place that's a 5-10 minute drive from my house is a no-brainer. I don't think I've seen them since the QR/ DT co-headlining tour. Here's hoping the new album is decent.
