  1. never, and i've been known to tell people discussing the setlist around me before/during the show to knock it off. with a band like Rush, the setlist is the main element of surprise - why would i want to know that beforehand? I already know I'm going regardless of what they're playing. i never look at my Xmas presents before Xmas either.
  2. he'll be fine wherever - i'd go a bit further back than those 3rd row seats to make sure he has a good perspective of the screens. my son's coming with me - he's 11. his first show was in 2010. we're in row 11, first row of 2nd bank of floor seats. can't wait. seeing rush with your kid is the best - just prepare for the emotion of songs like time stands still -- whoa.
  3. my house is 10 times what it was worth in 1980. just saying ...
  4. keep trying -- once in a blue moon, stuff comes up.
  5. still plenty coming up in first 20 rows.
  6. keep trying -- stuff's being released in inconsistent blocks. pulled my tickets for vcvr right at 10, then nothing showed up for 20 minutes, then more have been released ...
  7. got 11th row, geddy side thru the rush tickets today sale. still good seats coming up -- they're being released in chunks. closest i've seen since is 9th row.
  8. they don't need another singer. they're pros - they can downtune if necessary, or just make a setlist of what he can sing.
  9. refresh my ageing memory - do we need a code for the presale thru the musictoday site?
  10. it's a stone cold classic. it's sweeter than a monkey wearing a tuxedo made of bacon riding a harley with me in the sidecar with a bottle in one hand and a gun in the other, firing shots off in the air while getting lit and banging my head to the melodic sounds of new RUSH. ah yeah.
  11. Wow, start a thread and come back a few days later and bam. Some great reading - the diversity of everybody's tastes is quite a kick. Yeah, so RUSH and the Grateful Dead are 1 and 1A for me, but I listen to an absolute ton of different stuff, mainly confined to Rock, Jazz, & Funk/Soul. I don't mind hip-hop, but hold the opinion that nothing important has happened after the first wu-tang album. I don't listen to classical music and I can't stand new country. I appreciate classic metal, and own some Sabbath and Maiden, but my tastes don't run deep with metal. Other bands/artists I love (as they come to mind): Zeppelin Beatles Stones Clash Floyd Genesis Radiohead Wilco My Morning Jacket Phish Zappa Return to Forever Weather Report Miles Davis (post-In A Silent Way) Coltrane Herbie Hancock (electric 70s stuff) James Brown Sly Parliament Stevie Wonder Marvin Gaye Bob Dylan Ryan Adams Santana Hendrix The Temptations Triumph April Wine Max Webster Crimson White Stripes Black Keys I could go on and on and on - music's a wonderful obsession.
  12. Mine is the Grateful Dead. I won't bother to try and defend it - it'd take too long, but a friend said to me, "you basically like the guys that are the absolute best on their instruments (i.e. RUSH), and the guys that are the absolute worst." I disagree, but I see what he was saying. Anyway, I thought'd make an interesting thread to see if others have such disparate tastes ...
  13. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Jun 29 2011, 02:42 PM) I might leave ML at 5:30 as sometimes the line of cars to get in is quite long. But then I am an OC, "need to get there early" kind of guy so........ I hear you -- I'm that guy too.
  14. Thanks for the replies. So, a 6:00 departure would be prudent (but not crazy early), with additional time if we want to grill some burgers in the lots? Reason I ask is that I've dealt with other 2-lane accessible amphitheatres and cut things way too close
  15. first time at the venue. staying in Moses Lake. How much time should we budget to get to the venue for 7:30? (I'm assuming they start pretty close to the listed time??) Is there any sort of lot scene prior to the show? i.e. people tail-gating before going in??? thx.
  16. thanks -- wanted to make sure my little guy would have an unobstructed view from the front of the 200s. any recommendations on how early to get there prior to the show to deal with parking, etc?
  17. question about gorge seating -- are the 200 sections as portrayed on the Live Nation seating map? i.e. there's a defined aisle between the 100 & 200 sections? Or is it just one big slab of seats that arbitrarily becomes the 200 section once you're a certain distance back from the stage?
  18. Took my son, age 6.5, last year & he loved it. He was way into the band though and familiar with most of their music. The scene (White River) was fine - tons of families. There were def. other kids his age - some even younger. I didn't notice any more drunkenness or obvious weed than you'd get at a live sporting event, but I wasn't on the lawn. I made sure we were on an aisle so he'd have an unobstructed view & a chair to sit in if he got tired (he didn't). We'll hit the Gorge again this year.
  19. Another summer of Time Machine Tour is not a bad thing - esp. because it means another summer of touring after that. Re the band "cashing in" -- I don't think you can blame them. It's a long life, and you never know when the band's ability to tour will be taken from them -- could be suddenly, might not be for decades. It's very likely that the royalties for all artists are diminishing greatly in the digital era. There's the possibility of these guys having another 35 years of life to live off of savings -- substantial savings yes, but if you've lived a fairly well-to-do life since your 20s or 30s, how much do you need to stop working for the next 30 years? A lot. Rush hasn't been this hot in about 25 years - can't blame them for milking it for another summer.
  20. small kids can't stand on the folding seats - they're too light and their feet get stuck in the fold. i just made sure when i booked the seats for me and my boy (age 6), we were in one a spot w/ no seats in front (203, row 3, seats 1&2 -- the rows in front are shorter due to the runway stairs). He had an unobstructed view. zero issues. kids at a concert grow the fanbase for the future - let's all get along.
  21. pretty much everything post-Signals. I gave up after that album, came back due to my boy's (age 6) interest in the old stuff motivated me to take him to a show this tour. listened to everything since and probably now enjoy the newer stuff more than the old (recognizing that the old is nonetheless classic stuff). vapor trails stands out for me - love the tune ceiling unlimited - it's like a heavy u2 song with way better playing & energy.
  22. Superconductor is the best Rush as Simple Minds song in their catalogue. Not only should that represent Presto, but they should jam out the ending with about 5 key changes instead of the 2 already on the album. I'll dance the backstep with the white man's overbite throughout ...
  23. I'm taking my boy, age 6, to the Seattle show. It'll be the first Rush show for each of us, his first concert (mine was Styx in about 1982). There's some historic significance beyond the father/son first show thing. 30 years ago, i begged my mom to let me attend the original Moving Pictures tour in Toronto. She steadfastly refused based on the belief that I would be trampled to death (thanks to the Who) or killed in a riot (thanks to Alice Cooper). 30 years later ... sweet justice. I loved Rush as a kid, but gave up in the 80s, believing that everything after Signals was garbage. I literally did not listen to a note of their music from about age 14 onward, unless it was on the radio. Came back to them just a few years ago when my son started getting into music, as his tastes gravitated towards the heavier side of rock. Was tickled to discover that revisiting their music brought me right back to those teenage years in friends' basements playing air guitar and drums. I've now brought myself up to speed on the rest of their back catalogue (extensive review post to come) and can't believe I ever got off the bus. Can't wait to catch them live with my little guy in tow. So psyched.
  24. Perfect response - thanks so much. We'll hit the shuttle.
