  1. I always get my tickets at face way in advance (with the MT presales) I have always seemed to have good luck landing the first 15-20 rows with those.....and then if I want to upgrade I start checking the week of the show....usually works out well...sell my other tickets to real fans at face...everyone is happy. But I always buy what I call my "saftey seat" to make sure I am in no matter what.
  2. QUOTE (FootballYouBet @ Jun 10 2010, 10:35 AM) If you live in a major Metro area, your best option for tix is to surf Craigslist the day before and day of the show. Ticket brokers do NOT want to get stuck holding tickets and will try to dump their tickets for cheap right before the show. There are ALWAYS plenty of brokers left holding tix right before the show. So.....you go on craigslist the day before and up until the afternoon of the show and look for tix for sale. Keep in mind that anybody looking to sell tix this close to showtime is desperate to sell, so if they are looking for much $$ over face value, when you email them offer them less money or face value for the tickets. It works like a charm and I buy most of my tickets for events this way, unless the events are particularly special(I elected premium Rush seats for this tour). Examples of how this has worked out for me? Patriots 2007 AFC Championship game, 40 yrd line 3rd row balcony, included a team tailgate party with all the free food and booze you could drink. $175 Paul McCartney, 17th row. Face Value Roger Waters, 7th row, $20 over face Bruins/Flyers game 7 this year. 4th row balcony face value Celtics 2008 Eastern Conference Championship. 10 rows from the court. $30 over face. 100% agreed. Landed two 2nd row tickets for 2008 leg in Orlando...at face value day before the show. Many other times in the first 10 rows at or below face.

  4. QUOTE (BrightAntennae @ Jun 9 2010, 05:08 PM) I'd try to get something from a broker, ebay or stubhub a couple of days before. You can probably get something face value or below for good seats. This ^
  5. QUOTE (GrandDesigner @ Jun 7 2010, 10:03 PM) QUOTE (Joshua @ Jun 7 2010, 09:39 PM) Far Cry The Analog Kid Time Stand Still The Pass Driven Caravan BU2B Vapor Trails A Farewell To Kings Jacob's Ladder Marathon --------------------- Tom Sawyer Red Barchetta YYZ Limelight The Camera Eye Witch Hunt Vital Signs Subdivisions Leave That Thing Alone Drum Solo Bastille Day 2112 Overture/The Temples Of Syrinx/Grand Finale ---------------------- The Spirit Of Radio Freewill Closer To The Heart Probably the most realistic one so far. A little too many obvious choices, but still damn good. Marathon and Time Stands Still are essential for this tour! Far Cry as the opener would kill it...and makes a ton of sense at least to me. Yeah I would take that setlist all day. Only thing missing is a Grace Under Pressure song.
  6. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 8 2010, 08:53 AM) QUOTE (Gerxt @ Jun 8 2010, 06:14 AM) People have mentioned the vocal melodies a bit in this thread. I think that vocal melodies in both of these songs are poor. The playing is awesome and the lyrics are great but they are simply not good songs. Can you honestly ever see Jacob Moon being able to cover them? Rush really need to work on song writing ability and only release the 8 best melodies they can write. Thats how we will really get another Moving Pictures quality album. Ive mentioned my displeasure with Geddy's vocal melodies on their past few albums. It was something I used to always admire about him, his natural ability to write great melodies, and that's really changed. But what I'm starting to think is this may be intentional, to try to create a more modern sound, something different than what he used to do, which was write very catchy melodies on so many albums, to me it was really his greatest strength, above the actual vocal ability and even his bass playing. You can play very simple bass lines, but if the vocal melodies are great, I couldnt care less what the bass player is doing. Maybe he is just trying to purposefully create something that does sound weird, not overly catchy. I could be wrong about that, and maybe he just doesnt have it in him to write catchy melodies anymore, but if it is done on purpose, well you cant fault the guy for that, even if you dont like it. He may just be trying to do something different. I think the melodies are a little better on BU2B, but not much, and there's hardly any vocal melodies at all on Caravan. I think if the vocals had a little more hook to them, I wouldnt have nearly as many problems with that song as I do. But its obvious that many people either arent looking for catchy vocal melodies, or actually like the way they are, which is fine too. Im a sucker for great vocal melodies. I can like songs without them, but then the music better be catchy then. Snakes and Arrows had some great melodies on it. Now are you talking about melodies...or flat out hooks? Working Then Angels Far Cry The Larger Bowl Spindrift TWTWB All those have really good vocal melodies. It is a major strength of Geddy. And his vocals are leaps and bounds from his 70's work. Starting with Permanent Waves he became a true lead vocalist.....and has improved on every album. Vocally he has never been better live. So we get 2 new songs.....and yes I agree on Caravan the melody is a bit lacking. The verse music is pretty vanilla....but what's going on underneath with the chops...it's out of control and I am glad the vocals do not stumble that groove...that is a chops type of song all the way. BU2B....the melody is there. The verses are aggresive and the chorus melody is quite distinct and I can't stop singing it in my head (All is for the best...etc etc) I love it. I can't pass judgement until the whole album is done. But on these 2 tunes I have nothing but sheer excitment for what's next. The songs keep getting better and better with each and every listen. That's a great sign.
  7. Don't freak everyone. You will get them up to 10 days before the show. Chillax.
  8. 22 more days till all those that want to know will.
  9. 25 days and all that want to know the setlist...will. I will avoid the setlist like the plague though
  10. Go back in time...and revisit the ESL solo on YYZ Perfection.

And bring back the rant. No....it cheapens the song IMO. I know they had a lot of fun with it.....but this song to me is too good...respect it! But it's their music...so they will do whatever the heck they want and we will like it. LOL
  12. I want one I never heard live. A Farewell to Kings
  13. They are going play Subdivisions which is a standard....and one of their greatest songs period. So I want more from Signals....Digital Man was a awesome last tour so it's time to bring back: The Analog Kid.
  14. All of 2112 will not be performed complete ever again. At least that is what I think....would it be great? Of Course. So I hope they do the trifecta Overture/Temples/Finale It rocked on the VT tour....it will rock again on this tour!
  15. Ged's range will dictate this so the three I think can happen are: By Tor and The Snow Dog A Farewell To Kings Xanadu And I think all 3 get played!
  16. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jun 3 2010, 10:23 PM) by the way has gotten into Neil? I can't remember the last time i heard him play with such fury, energy, and intensity. He's doing things on the drums inn these 2 that remind me of the glory days of the 70's and 80's. It's like Nick R spiked Neil's coffee with viagra.... Best drumming Iv'e heard from Neil's in years...and best guitar playing Ive heard from Alex since Counterparts,....oh hell best songs I've heard since Counterparts! Alex's tore it up on Snakes too. But yeah...the playing is out of control good. And it's official. I now like BU2B slighty better than Caravan. What a tremendous song....I can't get the chorus out of my head...and that bridge....oh my that bridge....Classic 80's Rush all over it!!!!
  17. QUOTE (tangy @ Jun 3 2010, 09:32 AM) i really like both songs but do not see them as radical departure from S&A. Whats the freshest sound in these songs? Is there any new ground broken here? Breaking new ground? I think Rush stopped doing that after Roll the Bones. What started with Presto and ended with Roll the Bones was the most commercially accessable Rush music. Roll the Bones was one of their best selling albums and drew in a younger generation of fans. They had some ground breaking tunes for what they were known for doing in songs like Bravado, Roll The Bones, Ghost of a Chance and to the dismay of some Rush fans songs like Heresy, and You Bet Your Life....those were a radical departure for Rush whether you liked those songs or not. With Counterparts and going forward they went back to the roots of Guitar, Bass and Drums and a beefed up sound. The breaking new ground was so evident between 77 and 91. Each 4 album cycle had it's beginning and end. But in the 4 Album cycle of Presto, Roll the Bones, Counterparts and Test For Echo I think things came to a head with the Counterparts sessions. I remember reading quotes from the band about heated tension between Alex and Geddy , with Geddy wanting to continue the pop rock direction (with their great playing of course) they began on Presto and Alex wanting to get back to guitar driven songs. Also Neil was so bored he re-learned how to drum for Test For Echo as the Work in Progress DVD points out. Neils reached a point where he could not do anymore than he already had. He reached a peak and needed something else to climb. So as far as ground breaking....I really never expected Rush to break new ground unless they did another 180 and went in a totally different direction. There is only so much you can do in Rock music. I think Rush has really been reborn starting with Snakes and Arrows. They really have gone back to the prog formula first....then the pop sensibility second. Where as during the Presto - T4E period it was a battle. With Geddy really getting what he wanted on the Presto and RTB and Alex cutting through on the last two efforts with CP and T4E. Think about it....I always viewed Rush as Prog first and foremost. And their best albums have a perfect mix of the 2 elements they always tried for. Permanent Waves Moving Pictures Those 2 albums are the trademark of the very best of Rush. You have songs that jam have great time changes and solo's and you also have some great compact songs that rock but also have a great pop sensibility to them. Signals was the big culture shift and a ground breaking album for them IMO. And we know the rest of the cycle that culminated with Hold Your Fire. So fast forward to 2002. We were so blessed they regrouped and gave us a new album. With Vapor Trails we heard an attempt to really try new things recording wise with layers and layers of guitars and some bass.....it did not work sonically. But we did get some serious gems off that album. Snakes and Arrows was the first album IMO since Moving Pictures that we got the core trio back playing epic big songs with some great jams. But what about now? They have improved (at least on these 2 songs...we have 10 more to hear next year) what they stared with Snakes...a return to their prog roots. Jams first.....hooks second. This is the Rush I love most. So any fan who loved the true golden period of 77-82 the most (and I think this is many of us) should be thrilled that Rush are jamming again with such drive and force and are letting the instruments do all the talking. These 2 new songs are a pleasant suprise and a return to the essence of what they really are. A POWER TRIO.
  18. I actually think I now like BU2B better as an overall song than Caravan.....love both...but I here even more elements of classic Rush in BU2B....the verse music is pure hard edged modern rock in the vain of Porcupine Tree and, Dream Theatre...just driving in your face evil....but the pre chorus, Bridge and Chorus is so classic Rush in the vain of Grace Under Pressure....amazing. And the lyrics on BU2B are fantastic.
  19. Hemispheres (never gonna happen though) So give me La Villa this tour...and include the ESL intro with no rants.

Why would any Rush fan care if they made another Live album...if you don't want it...don't buy it. I always love to get a souvenir of the tour...and nothing beats a live album/DVD to always have the memory of the tour. If you could go back and have an official release of the Tour of the Hemispheres, or the Waves tour....would that not be awesome? So I don't get any negative thoughts about doing live albums. It's for the fans....what's wrong with that? And if you think it's a money grab...grow the f**k up. If nobody cared about this or that or every other friggin' aspect of Rush discussed down to the tiniest minutia, then this forum wouldn't exist !!! Touche.
  21. QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Jun 2 2010, 10:55 AM) QUOTE (Todem @ Jun 2 2010, 10:41 AM) It's for the fans....what's wrong with that? And if you think it's a money grab...grow the f**k up. If it's "for the fans" why not give it away? Of course it's a money grab. Just like R30, Snakes and Arrows Live and the Time Machine Tour. They want to rake in as much cash as they can before they're done. I don't blame them, but don't act it's some kind of magnanimous gesture to their fans. Someone certainly needs to grow up. It works both ways...and I am not thinking it's a gesture of epic proportions. They finally realized...we want them to do this.....because if we did not they would not go to the expense to produce it.
  22. Well I have heard the tunes over a dozen times....and my feelings are just the same. Both tracks are fantastic...hard hitting, full of energy and the playing....the playing is top notch and a return to the jamming in songs that I think has been ignored since Signals. My only critique is the vocal phrasing on Caravan. Really it's not the best and I have heard Geddy sing so much better on ton's of songs. So vocally Caravan IMO is a weaker tune for Geddy vocal wise. But the music and jams are so overhwleming it really is not a big deal...plus the chorus is great...and some don't like the repeating over and over of "I just can't stop thinking big" But I think that is the hook and I love it. Brought up to Believe - Love the song and what I really dig is the pre-chorus and the chorus. Outstanding lyrics IMO. The phrasing is working on this tune much better. I also love the verse riff which is just evil! I actually was jamming with it last night as I am just now starting to learn the tunes myself on the guitar...sweet riff to play. I also love the bridge....a classic Rush feel through and through with Alex doing his signature harmonics and open chord sweeps...also I do hear a throwback to the Signals/Grace Under Pressure sound on his guitar during the bridge/solo. 2 outstanding songs....totally unexpected for me. I was expecting a continuation of what they started on Snakes and Arrows. And while this is only 2 tunes of what we can all agree will be a 12 piece suite I think we can confidently say Rush is back again with a vengence and the sound is heavier, darker...much more brooding. My favorite tune from Snakes is Armor and Sword and I felt Armor and Sword was the best tune they had written in some 20 plus years......these 2 new songs IMO are going along that dark path that Armor and Sword took me...but they picked up the pace and inserted some insane jams. Great times ahead for us!!!!!
