  1. My brother had all the Rush albums when we were kids, but the first one I bought for myself was "Signals" when it was released. I beat him to the punch! :sundog:
  2. Took my mum to the cinema to see Les Miserables. Nice day out.
  3. D-Day - Anthony Beevor.
  4. They wrote so many perfect songs. It's a formidable back catalogue that would shame most other bands. I always had a soft spot for "What's The Name Of The Game?" and especially "Eagle".
  5. "United Abominations" is an underrated album too. When they were on the Priest Feast tour they played a few off that record. Really strong set of songs.
  6. ABBA is one of the best pop bands ever. They can keep company with any other artist(s), and actually outstrip most. Performance, arrangements, compositions, they could do it all. Brilliant.
  7. Koba The Dread - Martin Amis.
  8. Yes I know what you mean. The only guitar I own that has a bar is the Charvel I mentioned in my previous post. I never really bothered with one until then, but I have practised hard with it to learn how to use it etc. It's great for doing the sort of 80s metal stuff (Van Halen, Ratt, Dokken) in an authentic way that I couldn't quite duplicate without a bar previously. It was quite stiff & inflexible from the factory set up, but it does "play in" with perseverance. I like this guitar because it has a floating trem (you can pull up or push down) unlike the Floyd Rose (push down only) that I already have. And it has 24 frets.....I always wanted a 24 fret guitar. I really hope they market this one, as Charvels are generally very good value for money too.
  9. I've looked at the Charvel product range & this guitar isn't available to the general public by the looks of it, at least not yet, a point to which I think Guthrie alluded in his interview. I hope they do put it on the market. It looks sweet. I like the 24 fret range & the way in which they have unobtrusively routed out the tailpiece for a trem that you can push/pull & generally abuse to your heart's content. Good pickup choices too. I would love to try it out. I hope it does see the commercial light of day.
  10. I totally have to disagree with you about Cryptic. Its one of their better albums, IMO. They had already been catering to the more commercial on the previous two albums, Cryptic is just more aggressive, but great songs all the same. Yes, I think it's just me that isn't really into "CW". Most fans seem to really admire it. I much prefer "The System Has Failed" & "The World Needs A Hero" myself, so I suppose I am in the minority there.
  11. King Diamond is fantastic. The Roadrunner box is a steal if you haven't already got the albums. About £15 for 5 KD classics. He is headlining Bloodstock this year. I may well have to go to that, even though the rest of the bill is rubbish.
  12. A really strong album imo. Chock full of great tunes, some of the best lyrics Bowie's ever come up with & the band are on tip-top form. Gail Ann Dorsey's bass playing is terrific. Bowie has done a great job on this record.
  13. That is a great record. I wonder if you can get it on cd at a reasonable price? I'll have to look. I had it on cassette years ago & wore it out learning "She's Into Something" on guitar.
  14. One of my favourite bands. I've seen them quite a few times over the years & always really enjoyed it. They only ever made one absolute dog of a record (the atrocious "Risk") & one average one ("Cryptic Writings"). Other than that I feel they've had a consistently good career. Their songs are great fun to learn to play too. I like them.
  15. What a beautiful guitar. The last guitar I bought was a Charvel San Dimas 2 in Candy Tangerine finish. Brilliant instrument, a joy to play. Very reasonable price-wise as well. Charvels are great on the whole.
  16. "Bad Influence" is one of my favourite blues albums of all time. Every song is a classic. "False Accusations" is a great record too. I've seen him once years ago & he was very good. He's one of those musicians who has just been of a consistently high standard throughout his career.
