  1. are my eyes deceiving me No, they're not but I wouldn't get your hopes up though. read all your e-mails. i'd respond sooner but you always leave me feeling like i have to respond with some profound essay so i kinda procrastinated it for that reason i'm not surprised you enjoyed the concert but personally i couldn't stand it, mainly due to the crowd surrounding me. i never really enjoyed much live music anyway, so it's not really anything against DEG in hindsight. plus i was hungover during the concert, i guess that might have been a crucial detail to mention... in any case i'm still a fan. Yeah, the problem with me is that I struggle with being succinct if I have to speak through written form. In person, I keep my speaking to a minimum unless I’m with friends. So yeah, sorry. Not really being into live music is fine. They’re not for everyone. Acoustics, the nature of shows being loud and blown out, the waiting, etc. can determine if live music’s your thing or not. Being that it’s loosely part of my profession, it clearly is for me. I’ve drank and gotten drunk at shows several times and your mileage may vary, those were some of the best concert experiences cause I was under the influence. Admittedly, I DID drink before the show and actually I went to the restroom right as they began Ningen and came back within a minute to see them finish the song and the rest of the show. For the record, I do like The Insulated World now.

  3. I speak for myself personally, the fact that I’ve experienced seeing a few bands I liked split up/disbanded/ended (take whatever words to describe the end of a band if you will) in my lifetime, it’s inevitable and every band in existence has a shelf life if you will. It’s saddening (and more so if you never seen said band live) but the music still remains for listening consumption for fans (both longtime, and future ones from future generations). Rush is no exception for me. I don’t think we should complain or get upset about it that much considering how long they’ve remained active. I was just happy to have even seen them live once the first time I saw the band. I’ve since seen them an additional 3 times. I can’t complain at all...if I never saw them live, I’d be a bit more disappointed but that’d be mostly towards myself for not taking the initiative of making it happen and not towards the band. It’s because of that mindset I set myself I take every band I see live as if it’s the only or in the case of a band I’ve seen in the past, the last time I’ll see the band live. I look at it this way, it’s much better to have known than never known at all...regardless if I discover the band while still active, long disbanded, or on the brink of ending.
  4. It’s not too embarrassing but I wouldn’t want any of my drunken activities on the net either though. I don't think anyone would period, and it's a case where it's funny to everyone except the person in question. I've had my share of drunken/extreme activities that happened in college that my friends/roommates recounted to me years later that sounded way too exaggerated to be completely true but if I were to see a video of such moments floating around, I'd want them erased too.
  5. What you did PR is an accomplishment in and of itself. You managed to get Alex's son's attention and in a not positive way either. I've never seen the video (and never will) but that video must be pretty embarrassing to both him and Alex that he wanted it taken down.
  6. Ghost Reveries was/is Opeth's peak for me. Push comes to shove, that's my favorite album and I was really stoked to have seen it live in its entirety a few years back. I love Blackwater Park, I love Damnation, I love Deliverance (especially the remastered version), I love My Arms Your Hearse and Still Life is a pretty good album. Basically, I think the run from My Arms Your Hearse through that album was their best period. Truth be told though, Opeth has somewhat fallen out of favor with me in recent years. These days, I prefer their best friend (and fellow Swedes) Katatonia and have been more of my kind of rock/metal for almost 5 years now.
  7. Yet in spite of my indifference towards the band, I kind of hope that they actually pull an upset and actually win the Grammy over Mastodon and Meshuggah.
  8. One last comment on that Code Orange video. The video's length has their full set lasting 33:56. I recalled that for me watching their set on that fateful night, I thought it lasted 10 minutes longer than that. Daughters' set was uploaded and that too was around a half hour, yet I felt it was shorter than that and remembered feeling bummed cause I actually love Daughters (it was the same Nick friend of mine in question who introduced me to them a year and a half ago and later had me vacate his extra ticket for one of their headlining Vitus shows when his friend bailed). Dillinger's set lasted almost an exact hour and 45 minutes.
  9. My friend Nick made an excellent observation when I questioned why Code Orange left me lukewarm whereas I was instantly hooked on Full of Hell considering the two made a split together and toured in their earlier days (back when Code Orange was called "Code Orange Kids"). He said, Full of Hell went more experimental whereas Code Orange went more mainstream/crossover appeal. He was pretty spot on. Full of Hell would never be nominated for a Grammy. Code Orange on the other hand exploded in 2017 because the stars aligned for them. They signed to Roadrunner after previously signed to (Converge frontman Jacob Bannon's) Deathwish and released the critically (but not fan) lauded Forever, and subsequently given a Grammy nod for the title track.
  10. ^ For the record, I sat myself down before going to bed the night before RIP Dillinger to listen to Code Orange specifically their latest, newest and Grammy nominated album cause I had not listen to their music at all up till that point. It was...uh...very awkwardly cut...it was like they were disoriented when they mixed and edited the album on ProTools. Either that, or they are just not good songwriters yet. I'd definitely would be more inclined to listen to them first before Tool because on technicality, metal sounding hardcore punk is the non-DEG/non-Aaron Turner related side of experimental or underground metal that does anything for me these days...whereas, oh forget about the Tool part.
  11. Tool had ONLY two albums I moderately liked at one point in my life...now it lost nearly all its relevancy to me. Porcupine Tree on the other hand I had a huge phase with at the turn of the decade and while I’ve gone on and listened to other stuff over the years that’s speaks to the present me, the band still holds up as one of my all time favorite bands...so yeah they’re the better band to me.
  12. I came very close to putting Code Orange on the most recent MK. Not because I liked them (in fact, I actually think they're only tolerable at their best and a comedy sketch at their worst), but because I wanted to get a confirmation that they aren't good from Not and Sean. This happens to be from that Dillinger show and me and my friends (a majority of the group hate Code Orange) were practically laughing at each other at their stage presence, questionable wearing of a band's own t-shirts, ridiculous ski masks and mockingly shouted out Code Orange stage banters at one another...such as the now infamous "WE! ARE! CODE! ORANGE! FROM! PITTSBURG! PENNSYLVANIA! DON'T! YOU! EVER! FORGET! THAT!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR3PA1XsztI
  13. Because it’s their best album.
  14. Fans say “Kukoku no kyouon” translates better live in person than it does on BluRay/live CD. Can’t say for myself cause they haven’t played it live in America at all yet. It’d be great if they did the next time I see DEG cause it’s my favorite of ARCHE.
  15. That's a disrespectful way to talk about our dearly departed Lenny. It’s been almost three years. RIP Lenny 201?-2015
  16. I’m just gonna say this in light of Dillinger Escape Plan’s final show ever tonight. Chris Pennie was a very talented drummer who ultimately f**ked up his career over TWICE. First for leaving DEP cause he had (and maybe still has considering he left Coheed which he joined because of what happened in DEP) a massive f***ing ego which caused conflict w/the rest of the band. And second for leaving Coheed and not following up w/moving onto another active band. He’s got a very low profile since leaving Coheed which sort of sucks cause I’m not even sure he’s even an active musician anymore.
  17. They're both ridiculous. That's what I'm getting at.
  18. A great way to up your post count! :dweez: A great pro-tip is that you could edit your post as well if you're within the time limit (IIRC it's roughly 9-12 hours?) to do so.
  19. All speculation, but w/recent activities this latest fan-speculation seems believable. Newest theory on the future of DEG is that the next album will be the last/2nd to last. 3-6 years and the band's finished. My hunch says that DEG will end in 2022: their 25th anniversary. And one more thought on the re-recorded The IIID Empire...on fourth viewing of the trailer, I've come to the conclusion that while the production's much better...the production and performance is too polished. Either that, or they're going through the motions on that re-recording in particular...hence why I believe that speculation of the band coming close to a thematic end as bummed I'd be for when the fateful day arrives.
  20. Re-recorded Fukai, THE IIID Empire and Beautiful Dirt sounds great. And it looks like the lyrics for the new Fukai uses the VULGARISM version.
  21. This rivals the now infamous “HEY GUYS! SITTING ON THE BEACH THIS SUMMER LISTENING TO THE UTAFUMI SONG!” ad.
  22. DEG released a preview video of the re-recorded songs...and honestly, I can see why they decided to re-record Fukai, The IIID Empire and Beautiful Dirt. While Fukai and THE IIID EMPIRE were already great songs (the latter being a VULGAR classic), Beautiful Dirt was a bottom tier track from Withering to death. but nevertheless all three were plagued with horrible production. The re-recorded version's got better production on what are essentially performances faithful to the original unlike the re-recorded versions of Tsumi To Batsu, Zan, and Kiri To Mayu. Beautiful Dirt actually breathes new life in its re-recorded version.
  23. Oh? What kind? :laughing guy: I think it’s the Cure kind?
  24. Being a Twin Peaks fan, the fact that my sister got me a “I AM DOUGIE’S COFFEE” mug is probably the best thing I’ve got for Christmas in quite some time. Nothing much other than crazy striped socks, a $100 check to cash in, and a PS4 game (I’m not actually a gamer but the fact I’m quite clueless at it has entertained those around me). Oh, and I’m slowly warming up to that boozy ice cream float Christmas experiment...it ain’t perfect yet, but I’d imagine if I eschew the ale part and substitute it w/my favorite beer instead I’d think it’d actually be pretty good.
