DAMN They should have been playing "How It Is" for a long time! Alex is playing a gorgeous guitar! You can still see that Neil has his reservations about touching a lot of the VT stuff though. Pretty powerful message to bring this one out though. Surprise of the tour so far for me.

Man if Seattle gets this cheap towards the show date I might have to go and catch that one too...

I'm so tired of seeing everybody and their brother playing 4 piece kits. Sure it's less stuff to haul around, but it comes with a price of fewer voices to speak with.(not to mention big kits just look so much cooler) I honestly think a lot of drummers today(especially locally) have gotten lazy. Everything has to be real close so they don't expend themselves. I don't use a big kit all the time but when I do and drummers sit in, they sometimes have a look like they are reading Chinese. LOL Neil didn't start on a jazz kit so I'm sure he got used to it faster when he went back to this kit. I play with my ride in the jazz position, but I play a 9 piece kit haha. Very similar to Neil's setup. And you can hear the difference in the Tulsa recordings. He plays much more rigidly on the old setup. Some people I prefer that I guess, but his smoothness and power has been completely amplified since about 2007 or so when he really started getting loose.

Not sure how long he'll be able to play the ride over there. Its so inefficient and it is painful to play if you are coming from a jazz setup.

Oh man the hype is real... July 21 is a long ways away...

Okay final choice! Do I go for row 3 for 500 a pop not knowing where in the row they are, or do I go for row 4 for 550 with the promise that they are just off center?

Dear Lord. So yea, the two sets and encore are amazing. The stage redesign is pretty cool. The chrome kit replica (while it is PAINFUL to watch Neil having to play the ride way over to his right) is a really fun and unique idea for this tour. But God Damn... The real star of this tour is Howard. Just from watching the periscope stream last night I knew it was the best show they'd ever had lighting wise, but his morning I went back and watched Clockwork Angels, The Main Monkey Business, Jacobs Ladder, and both of the Cygnus's, and the lights are just on another level. At some parts he's actually playing with the band. And not just the easy "change the lights at every measure" playing, he's playing the hits in DEW, he's running cycles over the syncopated odd meter stuff in JL, He hits the flashes over that screwy bit at the end of Monkey Business. He's using the lights almost as another instrument. I can't wait to see what he has planned for some of the alternate songs the following nights! I'm gonna have to hunt him down and congratulate him in Portland when that show rolls around.

First set was so good. Three of my favorite CA songs, one of my favorite instrumentals they've ever done, and three songs I've always liked but never seen live (Animate, RTB, DEW). And then that 2nd set is just pure prog bliss. This is as close to a perfect set list as we'll ever get. It has something for EVERYONE.
