  1. QUOTE (D3strukt @ Dec 14 2011, 06:02 PM)QUOTE (Synth Sense @ Dec 14 2011, 03:46 PM) I'll shed some light on the TSoR mystery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_Radio In the article, it says this: "An unreleased live version of the song is featured in the video game Guitar Hero 5. This version is taken from a live performance at the Apollo in Manchester, England on June 17, 1980, on the Permanent Waves Tour." Since the version RB3 got is pretty much the exact same one from GH5, I'll have to take Wiki's word for it. Perhaps someone with a boot of that show can confirm it for us? Anyway, AWESOME pack. All the songs were awesome to play on drums and vocals. I have yet to play them on Guitar/Bass/Keyboards but I'm sure they're just as awesome on those (maybe not as much on keys on TSoR but meh). That could be a ploy. Nothing about it sounds live at all. Even most soundboards SOUND live. This sounds completely studio. Not only that, but the fake crowd at the beginning sounds fake. The whole idea of a 'soundboard' is that all of the inputs are isolated, and therefore the audience mix can be removed and each instrument can be separated out. It is rumored that Rush has recorded all of their concerts off the soundboard for their own personal use, so it is not beyond the realm of possibility that this recording exists in decent shape with the bass/guitar/drum/vocal/keyboard tracks intact separately. I have no idea if the Wiki article is true, but it seems that the only known bootleg of this show (ref: Digital Rush Experience) is a crappy audience recording that probably most people have never heard (I have a shit-ton of bootlegs, and this ain't one of them). It would be cool to know that Rush has a good copy of this show, and has released it for public consumption in this format! There is a bootleg on Dime for the second Manchester show from this tour, and I'll try to grab a copy of that, just to see if it's even close to this version....but it would be cool if someone with access could shed some light on the first Manchester show (Ron2112, et.al, I'm looking at you!) But anyway......I've had a pile of fun playing Caravan on Rockband tonight! This game makes me realize parts of the song that I never realized before!

Unfourtantly. Oh and by the way. Can Utility, be a man and state why you have such animosity against me and Tommy Sawyer? Reviving this, eh? How about you realize that not everyone's going to like you and get on with your life? So you hate people just because. And it's really quite effective because everytime someone tries to pressure you, you give us one of these Lay off me and Tommy Sawyer, we haven't done anything and to be honest I'd like to know why such hatred surges through your posts. ^ that post just made me hate you a little... Just had to sign in for a quick LOL!
  3. Well, anyone who grew up in Toronto in the 80/90s knows Humble and Fred. They were DJs on the Spirit of Radio back in the day. But anyway, they have since been dumped a few times and are trying to get an Internet show going. They clearly have many connections and friends, and here is their Alex Lifeson interview (fast forward to 37 minutes). http://www.humbleandfredradio.com/
  4. That was great, and after it was done I ended up drifting through various YouTube vids about Steve Jobs, Apple, and Microsoft....crazy stuff. Here's another great commencement speech (and Steve Jobs is mentioned!):

  6. Ghostworks is a pedant. Don't be hoodwinked by his posts that imply his moral, intellectual, and humorial* superiority over everybody else. *Humorial superiority - I couldn't think of a word that means "I am a really funny guy, but you are too stupid to understand my amazing humor", so I invented this term
  7. QUOTE (Cosy Toes @ May 13 2011, 07:33 PM) Wel, that gig was average at best. Easily the worst setlist since the resumed touring Yurp again. Set 1 took a hell of a nosedive after TSoR, only picking up with the last three songs. Then, wow they play all of MP, BFD, so we get The Camera Eye, but do we need Vital Signs? Neil had a face like a Bulldog licking piss off a nettle all night, and the lighting rig delivered less than it promised. The intro videos were shite. On the positive side, Alex looked well into it - even if his guitar work is very Milli Vanilli - and I thought taht Geddy's vocals held up very well (even if others differ in their opinion - and they do) zzzzzzzzzzzzz
  8. Hey CR, good thread!! I just started reading the 'Song of Fire and Ice' books this winter after hearing that 'A Game of Thrones' was going to be made into an HBO series. These books were recommended by numerous people on various message boards even before the HBO series was announced, so I figured that they must be pretty good at least! My initial impressions involved several of the same complaints that I have since read above in this thread (e.g., no obvious protagonist, too many characters, very slow plot, etc.). But I pushed through, and am happy that I did. Given some patience, 'A Game of Thrones' is a great book (and hopefully the entire series bears out). Several of my negative impressions have actually turned into positives, although it takes some time and introspection to make the switch on these complaints: 1) It's difficult to 'like' any of the characters. This bothered me at first, but then I realized that this is because most of the characters are actually somewhat three dimensional and realistic. That is, the person that you intially think is 'the hero' turns out to have some substantial flaws (and vice versa with the 'bad guy'). Some books are very obvious with this device, but it seems to work better in this series (which can be infuriating). 2) There are too many characters. This is true, at first. It is extremely confusing to figure out who is related to who, and who is fighting who, etc......But that's the point. Part of the fun is trying to figure out all of the convoluted connections between that various families, friends, foes, etc. along with all the slights that have made foes out of friends, and so on. 3) The plot moves too slow. This is true also. A Game of Thrones spends much time building up the characters, setting, and background to this tale. Hey, THIS IS A GOOD THING!!! I for one can't wait to see what comes next! With that said about the book, I've just watched the first two episodes of the TV show. All I can say is: AWESOME!!! The show is extremely well produced, they seem to have a really nice budget, and they are following VERY closely along with the narrative of the book (unlike the horrendous 'Pillars of the Earth' miniseries......if you liked that book but hated the miniseries, well, this show is waaaaaay better). With the first two episodes of the tv series, they have completely captured the book as I would have envisioned it. I am hooked on this series and look forward to seeing the next episodes (and am currently reading A Clash of Kings). P.S. I'm pretty drunk right now, so if any of the above doesn't make sense, then oh well. I'll try to clarify when I've sobered up......or not!
  9. QUOTE (Perchance to Dream @ Apr 20 2011, 08:51 PM)QUOTE (D3strukt @ Apr 20 2011, 12:42 PM) There are better ones, in the map room in the bunker, lulz. Hitler likes his temper tantrums. Agreed. A bunker video length version of this would be much better. I still laughed though. Yep, this one is still my favorite: You could easily substitute "Rush" for "Springsteen" in this video. You see the same griping and moaning about all the same topics on any artist's fan forums.
  10. QUOTE (Enviro_tech @ Apr 19 2011, 12:32 PM) ....... quik edit! They released a few seats on the edges around the stage, just pulled out 208, row 4, seat 7.. like right above the stage. Yep, I just snagged a ticket from Ticketmaster, Section 124 Row 6. Once again, patience pays off!! Hope to see you there tonight Enviro!
  11. Dude, if you're still holding out, then keep holding out! I can almost (almost) guarantee that Ticketmaster will start selling more tickets at some point over then next two weeks. Really good tickets too! Just be patient and check in with Ticketmaster whenever you can over the next few weeks, and you will get a ticket.....especially if it's only a single that you're looking for. And if all else fails, just show up at the venue and ask around. You will find something MUCH better than some overpriced stubhub shit. Seriously. That's my plan anyway, and it's worked out for every concert that I've attended in this area for the past few years! Good luck, and hope to see you there!
  12. Put that pile of gravy on top of a pile of cheese curds that are piled on a pile of french fires.......then I would be REALLY impressed! The mashed potatoes are a good second though.
  13. QUOTE (Harper77 @ Dec 17 2010, 12:17 PM) I have never seen Rush but enjoy their music so I decided to go on to ticketmaster for their Hamilton show and voila! Got 2 seats, sec 106 row 9! Here's my ques's: -i have never seen Rush but my seats are at the side of the stage - are my seats or view or even sound suck at that angle? -also, this might be a dumb ques and forgive me but it seems that they don't play The Big Money anymore - why is that? Your view will be fantastic. The stage is very clear on the sides, so you will have a great view of Geddy from the side all night.....it's a really interesting perspective. You also get to watch what the tech is doing at side-stage. View of the screen might not be that great though, and I have no idea about the sound. I saw those seats this morning and considered them also, but I'm gonna wait awhile and see what else turns up after all my Christmas bills have been paid off!
  14. Now those are some AWESOME photos!!! And I see my good friend Judy of RushCon in a few of the pics too......groovy!!!
  15. QUOTE (theguyincygnusx1 @ Apr 23 2010, 09:24 PM)QUOTE (Mindcore @ Apr 23 2010, 07:52 PM) QUOTE (KillerInstinct @ Apr 22 2010, 08:37 PM) Hey guys gonna buy my tickets tonight Anyone know if the seats in section 322 are any good? Thats were im buying. Also, see you there, bigman Yeah, the 300 section is decent. That's where I was sitting during the Vapour Trails tour. As long as you're under the tent, the sound will be good. I chose the ACC show 1, because the acoustics are better and 2, it's a Saturday night! Too bad the ACC crowd is super lame It's only lame if you let it be lame! You, sir, need to yell louder at those lame motherpunchers that are sitting around you, to have more fun. If they don't respond, then you need to yell LOUDER!!! If they don't respond then, well, you have failed. Never been lame for me! Holy shit I'm excited for this show.......and even more so for the pre-show meetups (which usually turn out to be more fun, truth be told...)
  16. QUOTE (Tripdad @ Apr 20 2010, 09:40 PM) For LFLR section - Does Seat #1 start on the left side as you face the stage or on the right side (next to the CFLR)? And how many seats per row? Any ideas? Thanks! I'm pretty sure that Seat #1 is on the far outside left (Alex side), and the seat numbers increase all the way across to the far right hand side (Geddy side). I know that someone got seat numbers 39 and 40 in the Right Floor section, so I'm guessing they are probably very close to the far right side. There are usually around 14 seats across each of the Left, Centre, and Right sections of the floor. I ended up scoring L Floor, Row 5, Seat 14 in the Music Today presale (should be right near the aisle between the left and centre sections, right in front of Alex's mic), so I am frickin' stoked for this one!! Edited for clarification.
  17. QUOTE (Alex @ Apr 20 2010, 09:23 PM)At what point on the floor can you not see very well? Row 25ish? That depends how tall you are. There are usually between 40 to 45 rows on the floor at ACC. 25th row is probably a few rows ahead of the sound board in the picture below. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/bastillenight/ACC2.jpg
  18. QUOTE (Mara @ Apr 9 2010, 11:03 PM) QUOTE (Godeater2112 @ Apr 9 2010, 10:32 PM) One days worms will eat my ears, and then poop them out, and they will become soil again, rather like the soil I find in my ears. My ears are destined for dusthood. I think they deserve to at least be treated to some volumnesque Rush concerts before they expire. Talk to someone with tinnitus - a constant ringing in the ears for which there is no reliable treatment - and you might feel differently. My grandmother has it (not from loud concerts, though) and some nights she cannot get to sleep because of it. Even though I'm not a habitual concert attendee, I'm really thinking about earplugs. Especially if I can score seats in the first 10 rows or so. Strangely, it's not quite as bad when you're up close, because the big stacks of speakers are overhead and pointing out to the audience that's behind you. Especially if you're in front of Geddy since he doesn't have the amp stack behind him......it might be different in front of Alex. I always take earplugs with me, then at least have the option of using them. I almost always use them, and the sound is just fine!
  19. Dammit, I have become THAT guy.....
  20. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jul 6 2008, 08:54 PM)QUOTE (Bastille Night @ Jul 6 2008, 08:47 PM) Woohoo, so nice to see that this thread is still alive, and even better to see that it's being kept alive by two such lovely women! Well, Lady April claims that the Hungarian Phrasebook is ONE of the best sketches ever, and I must agree......but it's not the BEST, and I'm not sure I can choose my favorite. But if I must, I would choose THIS as my favorite Python sketch of all time: Philosophers World Cup (look for the Free Will reference! ) with this as a close second: Upper Class Twit of the Year! (Apologies if these have been recently posted, and the fact that I can't ever remember how to embed videos....oh well!) Bastille! Jolly good of you to visit! I say...anyone for tennis? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=M1-NpyaOWV0 AHAHAHAHAHAHHA, I have NEVER seen that tennis one before. NICE!!!! I'm trying to figure out how to do a double quote thing here, and it's not working out, so I'll just say that I read your post Lady April, and I agree.....there's no way to pick a true favorite.....they are all too good! But, I did look through a few others, and I'd say this one ranks up there with the best (that you didn't already mention):
