Neither Pittsburgh nor Cleveland?!
Pause Rewind Replay replied to zappafrank's topic in On The Lighted Stage
Buffalo is a 4+ hour drive from Pittsburgh. I made the trek a couple of summers ago b/c Iron Maiden was doing a limited US run of Maiden England '88 and that was the closest stop. So if they're thinking that Buffalo is covering Pitt, it's really not, unless you're doing like I did and made it a two-day affair, days off work, etc. I'm with you on the 2nd leg hopes. Well I've been to 10 shows and 8 of them were at least 4+ hours away so :P St. Paul this time will be 9. And yes, it'll a two-day affair. My other tour date question is... LINCOLN?!? -
Neither Pittsburgh nor Cleveland?!
Pause Rewind Replay replied to zappafrank's topic in On The Lighted Stage
Does seem weird.. maybe they figure Columbus and Buffalo are covering those markets? Only 1 Florida date (Tampa). Every previous tour I remember hit it twice or even 3 times. No Indianapolis/Cincy/Louisville/Nashville/Memphis either. Now THAT is a big whacking hole in the coverage. This really does scream "Second leg coming eventually" ... I hope. -

"Gotta make sure your here opening night and follow along as each song is posted as they are played. It was awesome entertainment!" I work evening shift 3:30 - 11ish. I'll have to check out the pandemonium afterward... the celebration, the bitching, the moaning, the whining... -

treeduck: Totally with you on Cinderella Man, The Weapon and Cut To The Chase. Give me just one of those I'll be thrilled. Maybe I'll get lucky again... nearly fainted when I saw Grand Designs, Body Electric, AK, and Territories on the CA setlist :7up: -
40th anniversary tour announced
Pause Rewind Replay replied to shail's topic in On The Lighted Stage
I only get 1 week vacation a year, I have 3 days left and they expire... Apr. 30. (For some reason the "fiscal year" for my vacation days is May 1-Apr 30 )So going to St. Paul will have to come out of next year's whopping 5 days off. Which will make getting to a Vikings game next season a bit of a schedule squeeze. But I cannot miss this :D-13: -
This is more like 1a and 1b... 1a: Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, Limelight 1b: Caravan, BU2B, Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist

Rivendell Tears Madrigal Heresy Common denominator:

I wouldn't call it an insult. I think whether someone buys it depends on how fanatic they are about either upgrading to Blu-ray or bonus material. For me, I'm not buying it because I already have ReplayX3, RiR, S&A, TM and CA on DVD. Blu-Ray and the bonus materials aren't enough of an attraction for the price. Those who feel they must have the shows in blu-ray, or who are dedicated completists, will happily fork over the cash.

Geddy Lee to Perform in "An Evening Of Who Music" Benefit Concert
Pause Rewind Replay replied to Jag2112's topic in Rush
I just laughed at the thought of Geddy playing "My Wife" "Gonna buy a tank and an aeroplane. When she catches up with me won't be no time to explain..." -

Which album started Rush's "decline"?
Pause Rewind Replay replied to savagegrace26's topic in Feedback
I'd say decline is too harsh a word. Also they didn't immediately improve on the debut. Rush to FBN to CoS is a decline that suddenly reverses and launches to the top with 2112. 2112>Presto IMHO has very few (can count them on one hand) bad songs. Then they became inconsistent again. RTB is saddled with Heresy and Face Up, Cp is a big improvement, then T4E backslides. Followed by their second big comeback: VT, S&A and CA are all better than RTB and T4E -
Caress of Steel vs Grace Under Pressure
Pause Rewind Replay replied to savagegrace26's topic in Feedback
So that's Distant Early Warning, Red Sector A, Between The Wheels, Enemy Within, etc. vs. Bastille Day and, um, uhhh This isn't a battle, it's a P/G >>> CoS -
What is the SINGLE most overrated Rush song?
Pause Rewind Replay replied to savagegrace26's topic in Rush
 THE GARDEN  -
1. Clockwork Angels 2. Caravan 3. Earthshine 4. BU2B Instead of being limited to 5, I've got a handful I can't decide between... OLV Ceiling Unlimited Vapor Trail Workin' Them Angels TMMB The Anarchist 7COG Call them 5a through 5g

Definite gem, musically and lyrically. Red Lenses is Neil throwing a bit of humor at the "Red Menace" politics and how it's believers saw Commies behind every bush.

With what they charge for beer or even bottled water at shows, I'd sooner die of dehydration. Although I did spend most of 4 renditions of Spindrift in '07-08 going :sigh: :eyeroll: The Garden was another  moment.

How It Is isn't great, but it's not a skipper. Only VT song I regularly skip is Freeze, to me it sounds helter-skelter, bits and pieces thrown together that don't fit well. I also frequently skipped Secret Touch on the original, but the remix was a huge improvement for that song.

What comes to mind for me aren't bad songs, but good ones with a "who thought THAT was a good idea?!?" moment in them: The electronic drum hits on the end of Force 10. "I mean the places were we live" in Second Nature... the "I mean" sounds jammed in there and adds no lyrical meaning. Not a bad moment, rather the amputation of a good one: Fading out Alex's solo on The Wreckers. Grand Designs: all those "whoa-oh-oh-oooh"s at the end. Should have shut Geddy up and let the song play out.

This is tough... Stadium (MP, Signals, plus the "Big 3" from PeW is unassailable) Synth (Only 2 misses total on these 3 albums: Afterimage and Tai Shan) Current (VT rocks, CA their best since at least Cp and possibly all the way back to Signals. S&A hurt by Spindrift and Good News First, but VT and CA's strength carries it up here) Prog (really picking nits between the top 4 eras... not really into Hemi (the epic) and Madrigal is a snore) Return (Schizoid... Presto and Cp very good, RTB and T4E listenable but not a lot of wow) Early (CoS by far their worst, FBN dragged by In The End and Rivendell)

Am I the only one who likes High Water?
Pause Rewind Replay replied to savagegrace26's topic in Rush
This song was a huge "grower" for me. Pretty much ignored it for a long time, then one time through HYF it just "clicked". The guitar on the verses like a driving rain, the chorus about how people are still primally drawn to the shore... excellent :D-13: -
I don't have a cell phone. I loathe coffee.. can barely stand to walk down that aisle in the supermarket without gagging. RushBoingo: I grew up mainly on 80's "hair bands". The only other "prog" in my CD collection is some ELP, Kansas and Spock's Beard. None of which sound much like Rush either. and now to reply to the original question and make lots of people say : ... likes Body Electric much better than Afterimage? ...finds The Garden boring? ...would rather listen to any song on Presto rather than Cygnus X-1 Book 2? ...hasn't had a copy of CoS for about 20 years because everything listenable on it is on ATWAS? ...would rather hear a 20-minute loop of Dog Years rather than TFOL? You may fire when ready :bang bang:
