  1. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 2 2008, 04:19 AM) QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Jun 1 2008, 08:26 PM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 1 2008, 11:21 PM) QUOTE (GhostGirl @ May 31 2008, 06:19 AM) I had a good time last night with the ladies. The bar where we met before the movie was FILLED with groups of women...many with that tell-tale drink in their hands. The movie was beautiful, funny, and touching in spots, esp. to this diehard SATC series fan. No, it wasn't an epic, but it was the perfect movie for the FANS, which makes sense, because they made it for us. I've read lots of reviews from critics calling it shallow and unrealistic, blah blah blah. Whatever. It was great fun, and I had a wonderful time watching it in a PACKED theatre, laughing along with all the ladies. I thought the movie was GREAT. Seriously, I enjoyed it a lot more than that Indy film. For the first 20 minutes or so I was just so excited to be seeing all those great familiar characters on screen that I barely cared about the story. There was one major story point that I wasn't thrilled with, but they made it work in the end. All in all I loved the movie and it was very satisfying to my wife and I, both big fans of the tv show. I guess I'm officially gay now. Don't tell the wife though, we just celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. I only saw a few of the shows, but it seemed to me to have the guilty pleasure appeal of any soap-opera-ish show with characters that were interesting and quirky in their own way... Same for Melrose Place, 90210, and other shows it seems to me... My next movie, Ive been told, is Kung Fu Panda, no SITC for me What I really love about the show is that it stars 4 powerful women who are in control of their own destinies. There haven't been enough shows like that with really powerful women characters. No wonder the show was so popular - it filled a much needed gap. I also love it because of how well done it all was. Much better and more plausible than crappy soap operas... I would say that Miranda and Samantha were powerful women who had real control over their destinies. Carrie and Charlotte had a sense of entitlement.

QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ May 26 2008, 09:27 PM) QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ May 26 2008, 10:24 PM) QUOTE (anagramking @ May 26 2008, 10:21 PM) I don't think I've seen that many of his performances, but I thought he was superb in Michael Clayton. Sopranos fans might remember his role as the convicted MD who hastened Johnny Sack's submission to cancer. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obit_sydney_pollack He was also a terrific director and producer. Check out his body of work: Sydney Pollack at IMDB. RIP Mr. Pollack. Aw sh-t. He was sick in The Sopranos, how prophetic. He was VERY special, PLEASE check out his listing on IMDB, he did a lot of work you know. My favorite comedic moment of his is when he argued with Dustin Hoffman as his agent in Tootsie, lemme see if I can find a clip and post it here... it was hilarious. Yes, I had thought he had made a name for himself in Hollywood in other ways besides acting, but I wasn't very sure of what he had done. When I saw him in those performances, I was wondering why that name had seemed so prominent, yet I hadn't seen or known much of his other work. I did not care for Eyes Wide Shut. Even he could not save it, I'm afraid. Thank you both for the info.

  5. QUOTE (Drumnut @ May 21 2008, 09:52 PM) Good today, but it's still too damn cold for me, but then again, I'm always cold. I'm no doctor (don't even play one on TV, either), but I wonder if it's related to an anemia related to epileptic medication: http://professionals.epilepsy.com/page/hem...astic_anem.html I have heard that a symptom of anemia is feeling cold all the time.
  6. We saw caught this movie this afternoon. It was so well done, and often so hilarious.

I'm going to read more about her methods. Thank you! You're welcome. Glad it had something of value. Cool name for the place, too.
  9. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Apr 20 2008, 10:27 PM) My article from today's paper. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/RushBabe/Stephen/scan0001edit.jpg The paragraph at the end about the child having a tantrum in the store, that did hit home. I saw something like this on my train ride (40 minutes each way; so glad I work at home now) home a year or two ago. I just for the life of me didn't understand what the hell was wrong, but it later dawned on me that this was a distinct possibility. Congrats on getting your article published, GG. Articles like these are very important.

I need to find a way to make money on this stupid computer, I spend too much time on it anyway. http://foolstown.com/sm/lam.gif Play the market. Never have before, have any advice on where to get started? Read as many books as you can on how to do it. There are many different styles, so find one that's right for you. Afterwards, if you decide to try, start very small with each play you put on until you feel more comfortable. Do not expect to become an instant millionaire. It is harder than it looks, and it can be very frustrating when things don't go your way. Besides books on how to pick stocks, make sure you also read about money management and capital preservation. Good luck if you decide to pursue this.

  13. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Apr 8 2008, 11:41 AM) QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Apr 8 2008, 10:03 AM) What I love about these women is that they're not skin and bones. I guess Audrey Hepburn was pretty thin, but she was naturally petite, and it suited her. The other women weren't ashamed of their curves. I wish it was still like that today. Those of us who aren't stick figures would like it a lot better. I think that this Hollywood trend of super-skinny women is inherently anti-feminine. I've said it before and I'll say it again: real women have curves, not angles. It has really bothered me a lot, too. And then there's the plastic surgery craze. Pamela became the ideal, how screwed up was that? Angelina was pretty until she decided to starve herself. Same with Jennifer Anniston. But now actresses have to look like waifs or strippers. Ugh.
  14. Married to his wife for 64 years. How many Hollywood actors could say that? Aside from his more well known roles, I loved his cameo in the second Wayne's World. "Ah, Gordon Street..." I know he suffered from Alzheimer's, but his deterioration must have been very fast. That is good, because it can often be a very slow and agonizing deterioration that is most painful for all parties. Rest in peace.
  15. QUOTE (Drumnut @ Mar 17 2008, 01:47 AM) QUOTE (anagramking @ Mar 15 2008, 03:16 PM)Drum, glad to hear you're doing better. Winter's almost over. Then comes the humidity of summer. I'm with you on that one. I miss the Southwest just as much as you do sometimes. Sorry to hear about the relapse. Hang in there, man.
  16. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Mar 17 2008, 04:53 PM) QUOTE (tick @ Mar 17 2008, 08:26 AM) Finally some really great television ! I watched the first two episodes last night and they were awesome. I love history and i live for programming like this. I never really realized the impact John Adams had on the forming of America. You think of the revolutionary war as a slam dunk no brainer, that everyone was totally patriotic and wanted independence but that was not the case at all. Fortunately great men such as Adams, Washington and Jefferson stepped up and took charge. Its an eye opening look at the turbulance that led to the forming of a nation. I look forward to episode 3. Im not sure exactly how many hours this runs but it will make Sunday night a good tv night for a little while. Crap, I missed it! Dammit, what's wrong with me? Can you catch them "on demand" on your cable service?
  17. Drum, glad to hear you're doing better. Winter's almost over.
  18. QUOTE (Snowdog @ Mar 11 2008, 12:05 PM) Maybe someday people will get the message. I've all but stopped going to the movies because I get too aggravated with phones, talking, babies crying, etc. You might be interested in trying the Muvico experience if there is one in your area. It's a bit expensive, but I'd do it for movies I really want to see in the theater. No screaming kids, because you have to be 21 to sit in that section. I think most of the seats are loveseats. The food is a cut above standard concession fare, and they also have a restaurant that adjoins the theater. You can bring the food in from the restaurant, but you can't have them bring it to you in the theater. You sit in the balcony of a big theater with a huge screen. As for the cell phone problem, I think no matter where we go, we are going to run into it. Theaters, restaurants, in traffic, it just never goes away.

  21. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Feb 25 2008, 09:06 AM) QUOTE (Mustard Death @ Feb 25 2008, 03:52 AM) I thought it was alright, better than I was expecting. I thought the recreation of the election race was way cooler than the actual film though... And oh yeah, Rachel Weisz is awesome. My wife and I saw it for Valentine's night, aww shucks, gee whiz etc.... Much better than I expected. Kevin Kline was fantastic! I forgot to mention Kline's role. That character was hilarious.
  22. Saw this one last night. Excellent performances from Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, some might remember), Isla Fisher (Sacha Baron Cohen's girlfriend in real life) and Rachel Weisz. Ryan Reynolds, the male lead, was so-so. Some might remember Elizabeth Banks from 40 Year Old Virgin. She played the "freak." Totally different character in this one, though. It was an interesting story, and I also liked how they were able to throw in a few funny reminders that the movie took place during the 90s. Aside from the movie, we went to a Muvico theater for the first time. What stands out here is the premier section of the theater, which we just had to try out once. They have a restaurant attached, and you can bring that food into the theater. The concessions include wine and beer, and burgers and flatbread pizza, aside from the usual stuff. The premier section is the balcony of a big theater, and it's all loveseats up there. There is a lot of room to stretch out. The real drawback of the experience is that it's pretty expensive. It's something to try once, anyway. I could see doing this for a movie I really want to see in a theater, and not very often. Edit: I should also add that the premier section is 21 and over. That means no screaming kids in that section.
  23. We caught this at a matinee today. It was a very heavy movie, no doubt. Very interesting story, though, against the backdrop of 1930s high society Britain and early involvment in WWII, mainly Dunkirk evacuation and German bombing campaign. The acting was superb. Keira Knightley really needs to gain a few pounds. Seeing her ribs protruding was not a particularly attractive look, I must say. She did a great job, besides that. Vanessa Redgrave also has a short part and plays it very well. This is the kind of movie that gets tons of nominations, at the very least.
