To me, S&A was the only tour he sounded worse then great on. In other words, he sounded quite horrible. This might have to do with the brain dead slow tempos, but that's no excuse. Wtf are u talking about? Neil has metronome running every show for precise timing, and yes geddy sounded better on S & A live cd as opposed to TM it's pretty obvious...and I am SO sick of these threads. Most can't even play geddys bass lines let alone sing in perfect pitch and play keyboards at the same time especially at their age. My comment said S&A was the only album he didn't sound great on. I thought he sounded great on TM. Listen to Something for nothing, the tempo has been slowed down and it makes Geddy sound like a wailing dog during the chorus. I do not recall them playing Something for Nothing on the S & A Tour.
  2. QUOTE (GUP1771 @ Feb 13 2012, 01:28 PM) Forgive me, but could someone point me to a good example of a Rush song that features Alex playing arpeggios? I probably would realize it instantly, but still. Broone's Bane is an arpeggio smorgasbord.
  3. I just checked up on the Hemispheres poster and got it for the whopping price of 13 cents! Nice. I threw in Neil's Taking Center Stage DVD for $21.59. What a deal!
  4. Thinking about lighting myself on fire. LINK I mean, seriously. Are there really that many stupid people out there? You don't have to answer. It's rhetorical.
  5. Despite the sub-par production, I like it. After what happened to Neil's family I thought the band was finished, so I was happy just to have them back.
  6. No vote from me. I can honestly say that I've never heard a single song on VH III. I was disinterested when it first came out and remain so to this day.
  7. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Feb 11 2012, 08:54 PM) "Houston, we have a problem!" Dude.... I am soooo going to hell.
  8. QUOTE (liddybuck01 @ Feb 11 2012, 05:41 PM) QUOTE (Perchance to Dream @ Feb 11 2012, 06:53 PM) QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Feb 11 2012, 04:45 PM) I wonder what my wife would think about this in the living room... I tried the same thing with an autographed Geddy print. It lasted for two weeks. To the OP: Thanks for the "save for later" deal. Pure genius as far as I'm concerned. I will be buying this poster and hanging it in my garage. Psh, lame wives. I insisted that my husband hang my Beyond The Lighted Stage poster in our living room. He happily agreed. Wut? That's it! I want a new model!
  9. QUOTE (Unattractive Truth @ Feb 11 2012, 05:04 PM) I wandered out West, to the California Coast Where the folks who know about frostiness stay frostiest the most! Love it! Dave nailed that one.
  10. HELLO, BAYYYYBY!! Edit to add: I saw the 5150 tour at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Absolute chaos, man. Don't get me wrong, it was a great show, but the crowd was insane towards the front of the stage. I saw lots of people being dragged out by medics because they passed out from the heat of a thousand bodies pressing up against them. We stayed in the parking lot until it had mostly cleared out. It was littered with thousands of beer bottles. Almost impossible to leave without running over several of them.

  12. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Feb 10 2012, 09:31 AM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 10 2012, 10:32 AM) QUOTE (Tick @ Feb 10 2012, 10:30 AM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 10 2012, 11:11 AM) Tattoo is the only song i skip . Never should have been on the album So you like Uncle Frosty? The ending is good and the song as a whole is a Lot better than Tattoo It's funny because Stay Frosty gets a bit of razzing here, especially based on the small clip, but reading fan reaction (amazon, other boards I frequent, blabbermouth, some VH sites), Stay Frosty is widely considered a good song. I've seen many rank it in their top 3 or 4 on the album. I think hearing the full thing helped. Admittedly it was not a favorite of mine on an early clip listen. I actually enjoy the lyrics here a lot too. It's a fun song. The whole album is fun. That's why I like it. No need to have a stick up your ass 24/7. Kick off your shoes, smoke a doob, whatever floats your boat! At first I didn't care for Stay Frosty, but now I really enjoy it. It bounces around and it puts a smile on my face. "I looked to the East I struggled to stay afloat A solitary Buddhist Monk threw me a rope Looked me in the eye Don't make me say this twice You want to be a monk, you gotta cook a lot of rice....Stay Frosty!"
  13. QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 11 2012, 02:36 PM) I don't give a rats ass if the cover is a picture of Neil shaving The music is what counts Put the F*cking thing out already !
  14. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Feb 10 2012, 11:51 PM) Dave Navarro speaking live from his car - cool! That video link already has over ONE THOUSAND views! Jan Wenner and the folks on the RRHOF nominating committee must be shitting their pants right now - game on! Ah, I jest, but it is cool. I do believe they'll get in eventually. Yes, and when they are eventually inducted, I hope they send them a nice card that would say something like this: Dear RRHOF Committee, Your "Hall of Fame" is a disgrace, but our fans appreciate the the fact that Rush has been (finally) let into the fold. Madonna? Seriously? I speak for the band here as Alex and Geddy were not inclined to send a response. :pictureofahugemiddlefinger: Yours in Christ, Neil Peart

VH have been crap for so long now and your suddenly going to elevate them above Rush over one record of material they had put back that was written in the 70's? I will give my opinion once I listen but give me a break. The band are still a shell of their former selves while Rush are at the top of their game. 5 out of the 13 Songs have parts of old stuff. So what ? Lot's of bands do it. How do you say they are a Shell of the band they were, when you have not heard the album ? Rush is at the top of their game ? How, 2 songs ? Wait to hear the rest of the album before you can say that . S&A was dog shit imo, so i will need a little more than 2 songs to say they are "Back". I'm talking about playing wise Rush are at the top of their game. Playing wise Eddie is a shell of his former self unless he improved a lot lately. I have a guitar teacher friend who is a VH freak who saw them maybe 6-7 years ago and said it was awful. He said Eddie couldn't even play his own parts correctly. He used the term shell of their former selves and he is as big a VH fan as I am a Rush fan. Eddies playing on the last tour was sad to watch, i agree...but he is on fire with the new album.. As long as he stays off the sauce, he should be good to go. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Eddie was one of those fully functional alcoholics that was a much better player while ON the sauce. I thought the problem with his playing last tour was that he was sober throughout...? According to Sammy, so take this for what it's worth, Alex was the functioning alcoholic. When he drank, he was more aggressive and sounded better on the kit. If I recall correctly the reunion tour with DLR was postponed due to Eddie going back into rehab. If you listen to some of the videos on YouTube from that tour, Ed's playing is terrible on certain nights. Pure speculation on my part, but I would think that was due to his motor skills being impaired because he was seriously f*cked up. It would be next to impossible to dime those solos if you're sloppy drunk, even for Eddie. Anyway, for the money I spent on tickets, I'll be really disappointed if he falls off the wagon and puts on a sloppy, incoherent show.

  17. QUOTE (Unattractive Truth @ Feb 6 2012, 05:24 PM) Perchance to Dream is, IRL, one of my closest friends. We go to concerts together as often as we can, so it would definitely be him. Unless a pretty girl wanted to go, then I'd drop him like first period French. Likewise, dude.
  18. I've listened to it twice through. It's a solid, old-school sounding VH album; which is a good thing! Obviously, Dave's voice isn't what it use to be, but I expected that before listening. The songs don't have any great hooks, at least to my ears, but there's no doubt that they rock! The thing that impresses me the most is Eddie's rhythm guitar. Sure, his flashy solos are still there, but I love what he's done here. Some really cool grooves on this album. As stated by others, it's no Fair Warning, etc., but it's a very good album and it exceeded my expectations. I missed ya, Dave.....and I say that like I mean it!
  19. QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 7 2012, 03:31 PM) QUOTE (ReGorLaTroy @ Feb 7 2012, 05:28 PM) Did you ever hang with an old friend that you hadn't seen in years and it was like no time had passed at all? You just picked up where you left off... ...that is the new Van Halen record to me. I'm into my third spin and really enjoying it. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WWIc_FxkbII/Tvt9Jhidt1I/AAAAAAAAVlg/8eZFjrAa6io/s1600/Van%2BHalen%2B2012%2Bphoto.JPG This kicks ass. The chemistry is just right with DLR. That's the VH I remember, so I'm stoked with this release.
  20. QUOTE (metaldad @ Feb 6 2012, 01:10 PM) QUOTE (Perchance to Dream @ Feb 6 2012, 02:48 PM) I shall refrain from comment until MichaelAnthonyistheBest!!! weighs in with his opinion. I thought i was seeing things Yeah, me too. I clicked on his profile. The photoshopped MA VH lineup made me chuckle.
  21. QUOTE (go2wrk@95974 @ Feb 6 2012, 12:11 AM) QUOTE (danielmclark @ Feb 5 2012, 11:37 PM) Honestly man, it's not worth worrying about. It'll happen or it won't. But there's *no reason* to believe that anyone from any time period was able to predict anything. Ever. At the risk of skirting SOCN territory... the Bible? Whatever anyone's belief system, nothing ever written outside of scientific study and proof can or will accurately predict future events. Holy books have as much magical prediction power as a Grisham novel. Haven't you ever noticed how they're constantly wrong? Every time someone tells us that <Holy Book X> says that the end of the world will happen next month/next year/next Tuesday, the date *always* comes and goes with nary a sniffle. The only time those books are ever "right" is when people creatively interpret the texts to fit *past* events. Like, "see, where it says here that the two brothers would fall in battle? That predicted 9/11. That there means my holy book is the truth and you should give me money." Heck, we were told two or three times last year that the Bible said the world would end. Turns out, not so much. I'm not saying the Bible is worthless (err...), I'm not putting down its followers (well...) but it has no predictive powers. None of those books do. All right,man..but if your wrong, and the sh*t hits the fan in early June or early sept., I'm jumpin' in my truck full of camping gear and bookin' on down the road, goin' 100 miles a second , toward the Az. mts...like I said..hope your right. Please tell me this is schtick.
