I have to agree that these remakes are stupendously bad ideas.

Er, uh, I guess my new pet peeve is a hyperlink to my real pet peeve that doesn't work.

I see that list and I wonder just how in the hell Stallone managed to make so much crap and still maintain such a big draw in Hollywood...all on the strength of a couple of movies. Well, one good movies and a few that didn't outright suck. I'd like to know just how much coke was involved in the decision to greenlight "Rhinestone".

del Toro is the probable 'Hobbit' director!
theredtamasrule replied to Jack Aubrey's topic in Video Vertigo
I will look forward to del Toro's vision of The Hobbit. The man definitely has his own style and look and I think is a much better story tell than Raimi. Or Jackson for that matter. And please, please, please keep that hack Phillipa-Boyens away from the script. I don't have much hope for that happening but nonetheless I have my fingers crossed. -
QUOTE (pt2112 @ Dec 9 2007, 02:44 PM)I think Signs was great. That movie lost me when the aliens (who managed to travel thru space & had advanced weapons) couldn't get through a freaking wood door.

As to the movie itself, does anyone know if "The Golden Compass" covers all 3 books or is it the first in a trilogy of movies? BTW I think Daniel Craig was a good choice for Lyra's uncle, to me he at least "looks" the part.

From what I've heard the producers have cut out all the "kill God" and overt magesterial hatred from the books and the movie is going to a harmless sci-fi adventure flick. They've even kept Pullman under wraps for most of the interviews and what he has done there's been very little mention of his atheism & didsain for organized religion.

QUOTE (goose @ Nov 20 2007, 09:28 PM) These reviews surprise me. The only person I know who's seen it said it sucked. I had resigned myself to skipping it, but now I'm not sure. Don't skip it. It's worth a matinee show at the least just for the visual entertainment if nothing else. I want to see it again except at an Imax theater.

QUOTE (Chocojoe @ Nov 17 2007, 10:11 PM) Does the story follow the book at all? I read the story in my English class this year. For the most part it does but, as usual with Hollywood, there are liberties taken for the sake of a more dramatic arc to the storyline.

A visual feast to be sure and the story was well done although I didn't really get the ending. The 3-D was so well done that I jumped & ducked several times because...damn that spear was coming right at me! I hope it's a financial success so more movies can be made with that technology.

QUOTE (Mustard Death @ Nov 16 2007, 06:22 PM) QUOTE (theredtamasrule @ Nov 15 2007, 08:08 PM) From the "slavery reparations" skit: Grits n' Gravey: I bought my momma a car and spent the rest of the money on PCP. Funniest ever. That's from the World Series of Dice sketch... but still really funny. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/shadowhound/tyrone.jpg "Mmm, peanut butter and crack sandwich!" D'OH!! You're right...for some reason it was in my head that Grits N Gravy was from the reparations skit.
