  1. It's Friday everyone! It's a gorgeous day here in sunny Jersey City, New Jersey. I'm going to celebrate the arrival of the weekend by having a few cold beverages this evening with some friends and colleagues on Stone Street in downtown NYC. What are you doing to unwind from a stressful week? Cheers!
  2. Amazing Grace on bagpipes Marooned - Pink Floyd I'll see you in my dreams - Ukelele version from the Concert for George
  3. I really haven't been paying much attention to the news about this new project. I guess I'll just have to order the CD to hear what it's all about, eh?
  4. Thanks folks! I haven't really been around here much. But, there's always a warm welcome when I stop by. Cheers!
  5. Hey folks, I haven't been around here much lately. Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I thought I'd resurrect this thread since I am really grateful it's Friday!
  6. I found that most PT albums had to grow on me. I guess I had to grow accustomed to their varying styles from song to song. Stupid Dream is one of my favorite PT albums. Definitely one of those albums you can listen to front to back.
  7. I'd have to say Porcupine Tree Fantasy pick: Led Zeppelin

I was at the show with my 17 year old son, and before the show, he said, "Dad, wouldn't be awesome if they played The Full Bug?" I said, "I saw the setlists from this tour, and I don't think they're going to play it." Well, gosh darn it they did. Pretty awesome.
  9. Wot's...uh the deal with this immersion stuff I keep hearing about?
  10. QUOTE (sco703 @ Sep 12 2011, 06:09 PM) QUOTE (Natch @ Sep 8 2011, 01:20 PM) IMPORTANT NOTE: The Australian Pink Floyd that is touring this year is NOT the same Australian Pink Floyd band that has toured the last few years. The band split up, with much of the members joining Brit Floyd. Check out the website here: Brit Floyd Thanks for the heads up. I'm confused as to why they wouldn't keep their name though. At least on the website, it says that the entire touring personnel that did the 2009 and 2010 legs left. But why not just keep the same name? Am I missing something here? Or why did anyone leave at all if they all are still together? I had all the same questions myself, and didn't feel like wasting my time to find out. I'm sure it all comes down to one thing: Money (Pardon the pun ) I imagine it has to do with contracts and money. It is likely that the former members of TAPFS had no right to the band name.
  11. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Sep 8 2011, 10:58 PM)I hate to be the callous one, so I'll just say this: Reopening wounds does not help heal them. I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if you're saying that by posting links to videos and pictures is "reopening the wounds", I think you're wrong. For one thing, those who were directly affected by this massacre are still hurting. The wounds and hurt are still as raw and fresh as they were 10 years ago. The purpose of posting links to videos and pictures of the horror of that day is not to reopen wounds or to heal wounds. It is to serve as a reminder to those who looked away that day. It is a reminder to those who refused to believe that this actually happened. It is a reminder to those that refuse to believe that it could happen again. I type this as news breaks of an apparently new threat on the eve of the 10th anniversary. If the posting of this stuff offends anyone, they can simply not click on the link. I admit to avoiding any coverage of 9/11. I can't look. It's too painful. I don't need reminders. I don't need to see it again. I didn't click on those links. But, I believe that this is a story that needs to be retold. I believe there are too many people who think this was a conspiracy. I believe that it needs to be brought home to the people who only thought of 9/11 as an event that happened on TV.
  12. Thanks Lerxst. I, for one, cannot ever forget. I have reminders all around me. I'm a native New Yorker. The twin towers, as we called them, were a part of the skyline. When my wife and I were dating, we used to go up to the observation deck after work, and make out in the dark corners at night. I remember people jokingly telling us, "Get a room!" As a kid growing up in Long Island, we'd go to the beach at Robert Moses State Park, and the only buildings you could see from the beach were the very top of the Empire State Building and the tops of the twin towers. My father would point to the horizon, and say "Look, that's the top of the twin towers." The thing that struck me the most in the first couple of years after they were brought down, was how much I used to count on the towers to get my bearings. I could always look up, see the towers, and figure out where I was. I lost some friends that day...people that I worked with. I have heard so many stories of loss. I am lucky to be able to say that I didn't lose anyone close to me that day. I am one of the fortunate ones. There are so many horrific stories from that day. Stories from people that were merely going to work. Innocent people became casualties in a war that many were unaware of. Even 10 years later, it isn't long before a conversation turns to 9/11. It has had an unbelievable effect on the psyche of New Yorkers. Many people here are suffering from PTSD. I have co-workers who were in the south tower that day. The company I work for had its office on the 86th floor in the south tower. I wasn't working for the company back then, but many of my staff were there that day. I can see the effects of the events of that day on them. The recent earthquake is an example. Half my staff fled the building without waiting for instructions. They ran out of the building and left for the day. The memories of 9/11 are still so fresh. They were brought right back to that day in a matter of seconds. I need to point out some positives... The great thing that comes out of this, is the resilience of New Yorkers. We refuse to let the scum who did this bully us into submission. We refuse to let them scare us to the point where we give into whatever demands they might have. We refuse to be beaten down. We refuse to stop being New Yorkers. My office is one block from "ground zero". I can look out my office window right down into the construction that is taking place there now. I no longer see wreckage, carnage and destruction. I see rebirth. And, the rebirth is being led by the survivors of that day. The gentleman who created the 9/11 memorial across the street is the father of one of the firefighters who was murdered that day. The people overseeing the project all experienced some sort of loss that day. This is very personal to them. I recently spoke to one of the iron workers who is working on the new building. He is very proud of what they're building. The workers are on a mission, and are all very proud. Their mission is to show the terrorists that they haven't accomplished their goal. They want to build something that everyone will be proud of. They want to show that those who were murdered that day did not die in vain. The terrorists have not won. In fact, they have accomplished the complete opposite. They have emboldened New Yorkers. They have made Americans more resolute. They have only made us angry and more determined than ever to stand up for our beliefs. With the 10th anniversary upon us, we all pause to remember and honor those that have fallen. We're still left with painful reminders. We've all lost friends and/or family. If not, we all know someone who has. No...we will never forget. I will never forget. The terrorists may have won the battle, but we are winning the war. Just one look at the new tower going up tells me that.
  13. The band that toured as The Australian Pink Floyd the last few years is NOT the same band that is touring this year. The band split up with most members forming the band, Brit Floyd. Check out the website here: Brit Floyd So, if anyone is going to see The Australian Pink Floyd based on reviews of shows from prior years...be forewarned. That's not to say that the current lineup of TAPFS is not worth seeing. I have not seen the current lineup, and cannot give my opinion of the show. I just thought it would be worthwhile to mention, since people spend their hard earned money on these shows, and want to make an informed purchase.

  15. QUOTE (tick @ Sep 2 2011, 06:22 AM) QUOTE (beanerschnitzel @ Sep 1 2011, 05:06 PM) I understand the population thing. And agree, it's a pain in the ass. But you guys do come off like sissies sometimes. I thought New Yorkers were supposed to be tough. Power outages? 4 1/2 days? That happens to us about once a year. Funny thing, it happens during ice storms. How the hell does southwest missouri out ice New York. But it does. About every year we have an ice storm that keeps 75-85,000 people out of power for weeks. I understand its not millions. But whats the big deal? We get candles and chess boards. If the house is heated electricly we go over to a family members house with gas. We put everything outside so it won't spoil...some shit we keep in a cooler so it won't freeze. It's no big deal. CNN aint here. Nobody's offering thoughts and prayers. Shit, we had a tornado in '08 take out half as many people has Irene. We lost 24 to an F4 in between seneca and joplin. 24 sorry bastards that happened to be driving. Didn't make a blip on the national news. Realize before you get all offended, I realize that most of this is said out of emotional frusteration and I'm not considering all that facts. I'm not inclined to be academic about it. It feels better to just be pissed off. We always feel ignored down here. And this time, it just kind of pissed all of us off. Thats the banter at the local bars last couple of days. "F'in Irene...thats a bitch of a storm, jeez...."We like to rant about New Yorkers always act all tough but let a little water fall from the sky and the wind pick up "jees yous guys...it's a freakin Hurricane outside...we gotsta evacuate the city...yo" Okay...nuff said. I'm gonna go talk about Rush now. Yeah but your forgetting one thing. We are superior to you losers. I'm kidding! Gotta love Tick
  16. Radio? What's radio? By the way, I think Pink Floyd's most iconic song is Comfortably Numb. As for Van Halen...on their last tour, I walked out when they launched into Jump for the final song of the encore. Can't stand that song. Love everything else they did though. How about Led Zeppelin - Stairway? Certainly not their best tune IMO.
  17. 1. David Gilmour 2. Eddie Van Halen 3. Stevie Ray Vaughan 4. Randy Rhoads 5. Eric Clapton 6. Pete Townshend 7. Jimmy Page
  18. Thanks everyone!! I had a great day with my family. Did lots of grilling and a little yard work. A good time was had by all...
  19. Just got tickets to see Blackfield in NYC. Anyone else going?
  20. QUOTE (umoveme @ Apr 14 2011, 04:30 PM) QUOTE (Earthshine Emmeline @ Apr 14 2011, 02:25 PM) QUOTE (Good @ bad, andrush,Apr 13 2011, 07:26 PM) QUOTE (The Owl @ Apr 13 2011, 07:13 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ Apr 13 2011, 03:49 PM) 40 Trains covers YouTube mashup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7L60KrhBKA&sns=em That was so f***ing cool I thought it was a joke and it would be a trainwreck, but this totally made my day. I cried. I had a horrible day today, but this totally gave me hope for the world. I don't feel alone anymore. That's beautiful WOW! Pretty awesome video!
  21. I love this show! O'Reilly: The problem with you, Mr. Fawlty, is that you worry too much. You keep it up like this, you'll have a stroke before fifty. Stone dead you'll be. Basil Fawlty: Suits me. O'Reilly: Oh! That's a dreadful thing to say. Basil Fawlty: Not at all. Get a bit of peace. O'Reilly: Don't be so morbid. The Good Lord made the world so that we could all enjoy ourselves. Basil Fawlty: Look, my wife enjoys herself. I worry. O'Reilly: Well, let me tell you, if the Lord had meant us to worry, he would have given us things to worry about. Basil Fawlty: HE HAS! MY WIFE!! She will be back here in four hours and she can kill a man at ten paces with one blow of her tongue! How am I supposed not to worry? O'Reilly: Just remember, Mr. Fawlty, there's always somebody worse off than yourself. Basil Fawlty: Is there? Well I'd like to meet him. I could do with a laugh. O'Reilly: You'll have to worry for the both of us. I tell you, if the Good Lord--- Basil Fawlty: ---is mentioned ONCE more, I shall move you closer to him!
  22. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Feb 2 2011, 10:40 AM) Update - I know you've all been waiting and wondering. My right hand with its bitchen scar is doing fine. The left hand has been steadily getting more and more numb over the last year. The tip of my index finger never did get feeling back, and now the numbness and pain are creeping back in to the thumb and first three fingers (classic carpal tunnel symptoms). I went back to the surgeon and got a REALLY PAINFUL cortisone injection in my wrist. The needle was approximately 34 feet long and hurt like a mofo. It didn't help at all. It just hurt. So, I have to have surgery again, this time the "open" procedure on my left hand (had endoscopic in Nov. 2009). The doctor hopes he can find what's impinging on the nerve. He HOPES he can. So, I get to go under the knife, be off work for 2 weeks or more, try to deal with kids, cooking, etc. with one hand - and HOPE that this works. I have the surgery on 2/22. Yay! Yikes
  23. Gotta love Earl's style! Great points Presto...couldn't have said it better myself. I'm suddenly (as in the last year or so) a HUGE fan of PT. Their music just clicks with me. I can't seem to get enough. I start to salivate when I hear that Steve Wilson has written something new. But, hey, not everyone is going to like it. Everyone has different tastes. In fact, I hope they just continue writing and touring so I can get my fix and see them live. If they were overly popular, those $40 tickets I bought for the RCMH show would have been $250. So, I'm certainly not going to complain that "nobody" knows who PT is, or that they're not on the radio... And, don't trash someone for making a "hate" thread. This is a forum you know. I like the fact that we can all debate and discuss our opinions.
