  1. It's Friday everyone! It's a gorgeous day here in sunny Jersey City, New Jersey. I'm going to celebrate the arrival of the weekend by having a few cold beverages this evening with some friends and colleagues on Stone Street in downtown NYC. What are you doing to unwind from a stressful week? Cheers!
  2. Amazing Grace on bagpipes Marooned - Pink Floyd I'll see you in my dreams - Ukelele version from the Concert for George
  3. I really haven't been paying much attention to the news about this new project. I guess I'll just have to order the CD to hear what it's all about, eh?
  4. Hey folks, I haven't been around here much lately. Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I thought I'd resurrect this thread since I am really grateful it's Friday!
  5. I found that most PT albums had to grow on me. I guess I had to grow accustomed to their varying styles from song to song. Stupid Dream is one of my favorite PT albums. Definitely one of those albums you can listen to front to back.
  6. I'd have to say Porcupine Tree Fantasy pick: Led Zeppelin

I was at the show with my 17 year old son, and before the show, he said, "Dad, wouldn't be awesome if they played The Full Bug?" I said, "I saw the setlists from this tour, and I don't think they're going to play it." Well, gosh darn it they did. Pretty awesome.
  8. Wot's...uh the deal with this immersion stuff I keep hearing about?
  9. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Sep 8 2011, 10:58 PM)I hate to be the callous one, so I'll just say this: Reopening wounds does not help heal them. I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if you're saying that by posting links to videos and pictures is "reopening the wounds", I think you're wrong. For one thing, those who were directly affected by this massacre are still hurting. The wounds and hurt are still as raw and fresh as they were 10 years ago. The purpose of posting links to videos and pictures of the horror of that day is not to reopen wounds or to heal wounds. It is to serve as a reminder to those who looked away that day. It is a reminder to those who refused to believe that this actually happened. It is a reminder to those that refuse to believe that it could happen again. I type this as news breaks of an apparently new threat on the eve of the 10th anniversary. If the posting of this stuff offends anyone, they can simply not click on the link. I admit to avoiding any coverage of 9/11. I can't look. It's too painful. I don't need reminders. I don't need to see it again. I didn't click on those links. But, I believe that this is a story that needs to be retold. I believe there are too many people who think this was a conspiracy. I believe that it needs to be brought home to the people who only thought of 9/11 as an event that happened on TV.
  10. Thanks Lerxst. I, for one, cannot ever forget. I have reminders all around me. I'm a native New Yorker. The twin towers, as we called them, were a part of the skyline. When my wife and I were dating, we used to go up to the observation deck after work, and make out in the dark corners at night. I remember people jokingly telling us, "Get a room!" As a kid growing up in Long Island, we'd go to the beach at Robert Moses State Park, and the only buildings you could see from the beach were the very top of the Empire State Building and the tops of the twin towers. My father would point to the horizon, and say "Look, that's the top of the twin towers." The thing that struck me the most in the first couple of years after they were brought down, was how much I used to count on the towers to get my bearings. I could always look up, see the towers, and figure out where I was. I lost some friends that day...people that I worked with. I have heard so many stories of loss. I am lucky to be able to say that I didn't lose anyone close to me that day. I am one of the fortunate ones. There are so many horrific stories from that day. Stories from people that were merely going to work. Innocent people became casualties in a war that many were unaware of. Even 10 years later, it isn't long before a conversation turns to 9/11. It has had an unbelievable effect on the psyche of New Yorkers. Many people here are suffering from PTSD. I have co-workers who were in the south tower that day. The company I work for had its office on the 86th floor in the south tower. I wasn't working for the company back then, but many of my staff were there that day. I can see the effects of the events of that day on them. The recent earthquake is an example. Half my staff fled the building without waiting for instructions. They ran out of the building and left for the day. The memories of 9/11 are still so fresh. They were brought right back to that day in a matter of seconds. I need to point out some positives... The great thing that comes out of this, is the resilience of New Yorkers. We refuse to let the scum who did this bully us into submission. We refuse to let them scare us to the point where we give into whatever demands they might have. We refuse to be beaten down. We refuse to stop being New Yorkers. My office is one block from "ground zero". I can look out my office window right down into the construction that is taking place there now. I no longer see wreckage, carnage and destruction. I see rebirth. And, the rebirth is being led by the survivors of that day. The gentleman who created the 9/11 memorial across the street is the father of one of the firefighters who was murdered that day. The people overseeing the project all experienced some sort of loss that day. This is very personal to them. I recently spoke to one of the iron workers who is working on the new building. He is very proud of what they're building. The workers are on a mission, and are all very proud. Their mission is to show the terrorists that they haven't accomplished their goal. They want to build something that everyone will be proud of. They want to show that those who were murdered that day did not die in vain. The terrorists have not won. In fact, they have accomplished the complete opposite. They have emboldened New Yorkers. They have made Americans more resolute. They have only made us angry and more determined than ever to stand up for our beliefs. With the 10th anniversary upon us, we all pause to remember and honor those that have fallen. We're still left with painful reminders. We've all lost friends and/or family. If not, we all know someone who has. No...we will never forget. I will never forget. The terrorists may have won the battle, but we are winning the war. Just one look at the new tower going up tells me that.
  11. The band that toured as The Australian Pink Floyd the last few years is NOT the same band that is touring this year. The band split up with most members forming the band, Brit Floyd. Check out the website here: Brit Floyd So, if anyone is going to see The Australian Pink Floyd based on reviews of shows from prior years...be forewarned. That's not to say that the current lineup of TAPFS is not worth seeing. I have not seen the current lineup, and cannot give my opinion of the show. I just thought it would be worthwhile to mention, since people spend their hard earned money on these shows, and want to make an informed purchase.
  12. Chain pizza = I grew up on NY pizza. The chain pizza doesn't even come close.
  13. Just got tickets to see Blackfield in NYC. Anyone else going?

I cried. I had a horrible day today, but this totally gave me hope for the world. I don't feel alone anymore. That's beautiful WOW! Pretty awesome video!
  15. I love this show! O'Reilly: The problem with you, Mr. Fawlty, is that you worry too much. You keep it up like this, you'll have a stroke before fifty. Stone dead you'll be. Basil Fawlty: Suits me. O'Reilly: Oh! That's a dreadful thing to say. Basil Fawlty: Not at all. Get a bit of peace. O'Reilly: Don't be so morbid. The Good Lord made the world so that we could all enjoy ourselves. Basil Fawlty: Look, my wife enjoys herself. I worry. O'Reilly: Well, let me tell you, if the Lord had meant us to worry, he would have given us things to worry about. Basil Fawlty: HE HAS! MY WIFE!! She will be back here in four hours and she can kill a man at ten paces with one blow of her tongue! How am I supposed not to worry? O'Reilly: Just remember, Mr. Fawlty, there's always somebody worse off than yourself. Basil Fawlty: Is there? Well I'd like to meet him. I could do with a laugh. O'Reilly: You'll have to worry for the both of us. I tell you, if the Good Lord--- Basil Fawlty: ---is mentioned ONCE more, I shall move you closer to him!
  16. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Feb 16 2011, 08:50 AM)i didn't even know this took place until someone else mentioned it to me. it's old news but did anyone catch the islanders/penguins game on the 11th? this game was an absolute disgrace to the game of hockey. go ahead and tell me it's part of the game. it's a disgrace. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puMana_bq1o I'm a huge Islanders fan, and while I agree that what happened on Friday night has no place in hockey, you can't completely blame the Islanders for what happened. In order to understand why they blew up like that, you'd have to look at what's been happening this season. You can't look at 2 games (Friday's game and the previous game against the Penguins where DiPietro got knocked down with one punch), and make accusations. This had been building up for quite some time. The Islanders have not been getting any respect from the NHL, the referees, and the other players. There have been so many injuries on the Islanders that went unpenalized this year. Guys like Tavares, Comeau, Neilsen, etc...have been getting knocked around, high sticked, hit with high hits...and nothing called. When the Penguins' Talbot hit Comeau in the previous game, there was no call. Within the context of one game, it's understandable that the referees miss a call. But when there is a continuous pattern of non-calls, there is only so much one can take. The Islanders have been pushovers for years. All year long, Konopka has been challenging his teammates to stand up for themselves. DiPietro, who had no business challenging Johnson to a fight, should not have been the one defending his team. He took matters into his own hands because the Isles didn't, in that game. The players on the Penguins bench, who were laughing at the Islanders after that knockout punch, showed a complete lack of respect. I think that was the final straw. In my opinion, if the referees had made the proper calls this season, the Islanders would not have had to take matters into their own hands. And, unfortunately, it continues. Last night, Andrew MacDonald got high sticked to the face in the first period, left the ice to get stitches, returned with a face mask....and NO CALL! Had that been Crosby? It would have been a penalty at a minimum! There is no denying that there is a double standard in this league. Fix that problem, and you won't have a repeat of Friday night. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Last night on the Islanders broadcast, Denis Potvin and Butch Goring were supportive of what happened, and liked what they saw Friday night.
  17. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Jan 21 2011, 03:09 PM)Oh my word. You really ate that? Wow. Yeah...I don't think I could have eaten that either. I don't get too adventurous when it comes to food. I had a sliced steak sandwich with onion rings at Foley's Pub in midtown Manhattan. It was very delicious.

I think Rushnut meant the weekend goes too fast Umm... Yep. I know. That's what I, er, meant - goes too fast. Just got it backwards. The important thing is that we all agree that the weekend goes way too damn fast!

  20. Boy, does it feel good that the weekend is here, or what?
  21. I absolutely love the Beatles. I grew up listening to them from when I was a baby. If I were to list my favorite songs, I'd be here all day typing. To me, they were the most prolific songwriters of the past 50 years. To think what they wrote, recorded and released with the kind of success they had in such a short time period is just mind boggling. I don't think any other band can compare to them. Just my opinion of course. Earlier in the thread, Soni mentioned that George doesn't get as much praise as he deserves. I agree. In fact, I've been listening to the "Concert for George" soundtrack quite a bit lately. Fantastic stuff. For those of you who don't have it...GET IT!
