  1. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 26 2012, 02:13 AM) I hold my knife and fork the right handed way, probably all this is because I had to use right handed stuff and adapted. I don't get it. Aren't knives and forks the same whether someone is right handed or left-handed or ambidextrous? I'm the opposite of you, I do most everything right handed including eating and guitar, but when it comes to hockey/baseball etc I shoot left. Probably why I suck.
  2. QUOTE (pedro2112 @ Jun 26 2012, 09:20 AM) and very violently I might add. Headlong Flight and The Garden are "gimmies" for sure.
  3. People are allowed opinions such as whether you "like" or "dislike" new Rush. Some thing are facts though, such as for example, "Rush has gone through periods of being a metal band". This certainly applies to the first 8 studio albums and more specifically they are grandfathers of progressive metal. It's a fact. I'm a life long Rush + metal maniac but don't just take my word for it. People dedicate their lives to the history and legacy of heavy metal and all would certainly agree that while metal encompasses a surprisingly broad scope of music, Rush is undoubtedly part of that ecosystem. Whether it is: - Sam Dunn's documentary "A Headbanger's Journey" that I'm sure most of you have seen - Ian Christie's BIBLE on heavy metal history "Sound of the Beast" one of the better books I have read in years http://www.soundofthebeast.com/ - The bible on prog metal "Mean Deviation" by Jeff Wagner that I am currently reading, a fascinating read by the way and even features a photo of Rush on the back cover and has each section of the book itself titled from Rush lyrics... http://www.bazillionpoints.com/progress/ Trust me kids is most certainly metal, it's a fact!
  4. Nicely said and I'm happy to hear such a long standing fan is also enjoying the new material so much, as am I.
  5. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jun 25 2012, 04:40 AM) http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/yy51/Hatchetaxe1/DSCI0081.jpg Dad and his two little men at the youngest's pre-school graduation yesterday! Great shot brother! I had no idea you had kids. I guess we mostly talk about how perfectly smashed we were and also Rush!

    Tears......

QUOTE (D3strukt @ Jun 19 2012, 04:26 AM) First time i've ever listened to this song. Holy shit, it's a great tune. Not live worthy, but definitely a damn good tune. I hear spits of King Crimson in it. It's an amazing track, and I've long said that I would be the last to complain if Alex and Geddy chose to rearrange it a little and play it together acoustically, kinda like they did with Resist. Might they do that this tour + have a little strings action going on during it? Not likely, but it's fun to dream and time will tell.
  11. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jun 19 2012, 04:50 PM) QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 19 2012, 03:32 PM) Yes, it is. Other albums had themes, but this is the first album that tells an actual story from start to finish using all of the songs. No other Rush album does that. I think people throw around concept album lightly. Rush would disagree, in the multitude of interviews I have listened to with the boys regarding Clockwork Angel's they have all pretty much said that almost *all* of their albums have a concept and could be considered a concept album. Concept doesn't necessarily mean that one persistent literal thread of lyrics has to tie the whole thing together.
  12. QUOTE (andrew28 @ Jun 19 2012, 10:43 AM) It's only a matter of time before someone in this group isolates the chanting, runs it through Pro Tools and reverses it to figure out what he's saying. We are Rush fans after all. I already did that. RTFT.
  13. QUOTE (Tick @ Jun 19 2012, 07:33 AM) Anyone who see's this as bad is an idiot. This is Rush and they will use it wisely. I love the idea. It will add depth in certain songs, and take absolutely nothing away from the power of the bands playing. Hell yeah!
  14. Trust me, this will be amazing. Bodes well for gems like Xanadu and La Villa and Closer to the Heart being played as well!
  15. I for one LOVE this, now can't wait to see how they will use it! http://www.billboard.com/news/rush-bringin...007356152.story
  16. Still hoping to get our hands on the entire thing with the songs.
  17. QUOTE (GeddyLeeFender @ Jun 18 2012, 05:01 PM) Because Nickelback f***ing blows and they should NEVER be compared in any way, and this "reviewer" can shove it. You shouldn't let it get to you. Besides Nickelback is extremely popular and will almost assuredly make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame waaaaaaay earlier than Rush - you watch. If anything they should be offended some idiot reviewer compared them to .
  18. QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ Jun 18 2012, 04:42 PM) Listening right now. Wow this is an amazing interview!! Yeah and not a shorty either! Add 66 minutes to the length since they removed the songs. Nice one Neil!
  19. QUOTE (Jomboni @ Jun 18 2012, 04:53 PM) QUOTE (GeddyLeeFender @ Jun 18 2012, 03:48 PM) QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 18 2012, 01:06 PM) The Nickelback comment he made was very appropriate. He's just talking about the SOUND, not the songs themselves, and this does sound like a Nickelback album with the safe production style Nick has and heavy guitars. This doesnt sound like some off the wall creative production. It sounds like a regular rock album. I cant turn on a rock station without hearing that damn band and they're one of the most successful rock bands out there these days so it's fair to compare to them when talking about the sound of an album. God damnt your an idiot. Nickelback?! Your not a Rush fan dude...AT ALL Uhh did you read the review? Neither the reviewer, or anybody in this thread said Rush sounds like Nickeback. He said the PRODUCTION & SOUND of the album is similar to Nickelback, and he's right. He could have also said Foo Fighters, or just about any other big name rock band these days. This is what rock album sound like nowadays. Absolutely. He coulda and shoulda used "Foo Fighters" as an example instead of NB and nobody would have their panties all bunched up. Nice to know Rush fans can be so insecure that it's easily for reviewers to push our buttons so easy.
  20. QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Jun 18 2012, 04:42 PM) QUOTE (Godeater2112 @ Jun 18 2012, 03:35 PM) QUOTE (DistantEarlyRushFan @ Jun 18 2012, 04:34 PM) ITT everyone thinks they are a comedian And an acronym expert. What does ITT mean? "In This Thread"? I think it means "jokes make me cry" Yeah I get impulses to break that wagging little finger, then I remember it's just an icon.

  22. QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Jun 18 2012, 04:24 PM) Are you nuts? that's the Pedlar asking "What Do You Lack?" Haha! Or maybe it COULD be that too. It's so frigging subliminally quiet... almost inaudible. Who would notice it except for obsessed fans scouring the beginning and end for hidden messages? Would be a funny Easter Egg or maybe your less insane but also more boring explanation is correct.
  23. On a serious note, I started analyzing the waveform, listening to the first part backwards and comparing it to the ending played normally... The beginning is just the chanting and ambient sound + some of the following lyrics backwards + the end of the beginning is the beginning backwards... here are the bits of lyrics you can make out, taken straight from the song and sang the same way: Globes of light float in mid-air Higher still, against the night Clockwork angels bathed in light I was having some fun digging and then had to take a hard stop, discovered a hidden message from the Watchmaker right at the very end of the song. He warns us, foreboding.. Wouldn't do that...... If you don't believe me, crank the music fairly loudly at the end, right around the 7:27 mark and listen... I don't know about you guys but I'm not f**king around with this ANY more!
  24. ^---- Sorry to be the wet blanket, but no frigging way they make their shows any longer, let along an hour. You know how long and exhausting these shows are for them already? There is the general physical strain and exhaustion + the added element of Geddy's voice. If anything they may shorten the set slightly and quality-wise this probably wouldn't be a bad thing.
  25. Too bad the songs were removed, Neil's narration leading into each track was pure gold.
