  1. I am wishing for Hold Your Fire with balls aka Hold Your Balls!!!
  2. QUOTE (HemispheresserehpsimeH @ Mar 28 2012, 05:07 PM) I'm pretty pumped, but I don't like that it'll be edited. That's a whole two minute drop from the total length of it (apparently). I'm dying to hear it, but at the same time, I may just wait until the whole song is out there somewhere so I can hear it all. I think it is great! I will still have 1/3 of the song to digest when the album is released.
  3. QUOTE (eshine @ Mar 28 2012, 03:58 PM) From Sniglets over at CP: "Sorry I have been unable to post on here as I have been busy with work. Listening party happened a bit later than scheduled yesterday as it was more after 1 pm. I wasn't there but my friend was and he said if you would have wanted Rush albums in the 80s to have a harder edge then this is your record. The songs are like a winding journey and definitely has a more modern day concept feel to them. Keyboards are present on the record so if you loathe them, sorry! He didn't compare it to any particular album and that was a relief. He said just take 80 to 91 in a blender and that was it. Single should be out on or about April 1st. It is being sent to radio this weekend. My guess is this one doesn't leak. More as I hear more. It was basically a text conversation about it and I haven't had really the time to get in touch with him as he has other assignments" http://www.rushmessageboard.com/cpmb/index...ic=44104&st=100 THIS! thisthisthisthisthisthisthisthisthisthisthisthisthsthisthi! Is what I have been waiting for! Rush with an hard edge, and with keys! The 80ies with an hard edge!!!!! What shall I do now? How am I able to work until the releasedate and keep the butter on the table for my family? And how shall I be able to work for months after the release? I need to see an doctor, now!
  4. I have been constantly dissapointed since I first heard Power Windows and then by all the upcoming releases. I remember back in them 80ies I was a metalhead and certainly didnt want Rush to go soft and synthy. Then I started playing synth myself (because that was the only available instrument in the band some friends and myself started up ), so I gradually started to like synths. But still wanting Rush not to loose their hard edge. When they finally found back to their hard edge they skipped the synth so I was disappoionted about that as well. But in the end I find myself liking all their albums and accepting that they evolve. No band evolves as much as Rush, though still keeping their signature sound. HYF and VT is maybe the albums I have struggled the most with. HYF is now one of my favourites.
  5. Kevin Moore still behind the keys? I dont like much what Kevin Moore has done after he left DT. The first OSI was strange but cool, then it got stranger and stranger on the releases after..... Too bad he quit DT. He was the sould of DT. They have never been the same ever after.
  6. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Mar 27 2012, 07:30 AM) QUOTE (Tony R @ Mar 22 2012, 12:35 PM)All Along The Watchtower by Hendrix. Game over. QUOTE (Tony R @ Mar 22 2012, 12:37 PM)Of course "You Really Got Me" by Halen is also sublime. You pretty much hit on the two best ones, with the exception of the 11-minute stone cold classic: Creedence Clearwater Revival - I Heard it Through the Grapevine QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ Mar 22 2012, 01:15 PM) "Woodstock" by CSNY Another great one! Other faves: George Harrison - If Not For You This Mortal Coil (Cocteau Twins) - Song to the Siren KD Lang - Hallelulah The Byrds - My Back Pages The Chocolate Watchband - In the Past The Chocolate Watchband - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue Fairport Convention - Chelsea Morning The Rolling Stones - My Girl KD Lang - After the Gold Rush I'm sure I'll think of others - cover tunes are HARD to pull off well. I heard it through th grapevine is awesome. Probably kind of the song that got me hooked on CCR. CCR btw was an awesome band with an awesome sound. Fogerty's voice is as tough and raw as any. And they have plenty of good songs. Suzie Q and I put a spell on you is also cool covers by CCR! Damn I like swamp rock!
  7. QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Mar 23 2012, 04:02 PM) QUOTE (Snowman @ Feb 13 2007, 09:20 PM) You can hear a 2min30sec clip from the song on this link: My Webpage ^^ I saw this on one of your earlier posts and assumed from the name of the link that you had set he page up. My bad! As a matter of fact my husband has introduced me to Marillion already and we've got some of their music but I've not investigated them properly. I've never heard of Arena, I'll look them up. In response to your PM, I've since discovered that there is a chat site via their webpage, it's a yahoo site. What I like most about it is the fact that a couple of the band members are involved. Did you know about the new album coming out the year? It's called "On The 13th Day" and they are touring in the autumn. Yep, they seems to be very likeable chaps. I have heard that they are working on a new album. Looking forward to the release. Do you know when? You should really check out Arena. Visitor, Immortal, Contagion, Peppers Ghost are very good albums. I am sure you will like them.
  8. QUOTE (treeduck @ Mar 24 2012, 05:50 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ Mar 24 2012, 05:42 PM) I grew out of Magnum pretty quickly after picking Magnum II (complete with mirror sleave) in the bargain bin at Woolworths. Got tired of Catley's vocal delivery more than anything else. I got into Arena in later years, they're like a more Prog version of Magnum. Some good stuff but I grew tired of them too. You didn't grow tired of licking your own arsehole though I bet... Hehe TonyR, can you name some bands which you like all releases. Just curious to know....
  9. Ehhmmm....I have not set up any website. Must be another Snowman?? I still like them and I have no plans to send away my CD's. Looks like you are well underway in digging out their catalogue, and I wish you good luck in that. If you like Magnum you will probably also like Marillion and Arena. Saw you PM now. Didnt notice that I had a PM, sorry. I will reply now.
  10. This thread is sad reading btw!
  11. Well, I predict that they will do this tour take a break and start writing again. What else are they supposed to do? Relax, sit back and live on the royalites. Playing a bit golf, taking a bikeride, drinking some wine? With their passion for the music, I cant see that they are quitting. They play better than ever and Geddy can start singing songs in his vocal range, as he is doing now. Maybe more instrumentals? We will probably not hear 2112 on many more tours, but it has been played live enough times allready. I predict that the tours will be shorter, and maybe not a 3 hour gig. They should then focus moreon recording!
  12. Yes, they are very good songs. Wild Swan is probably one of my top 5 favourites. I think on the last few albums they sound more and more like their classic albums. That I like. I cant get enough of classic Magnum. They released 2 new songs and a re-recorded compilation album called Evolution. These 2 songs could have been on "On a storytellers night" or Vigilante. Hey, If Magnum could re-record songs (not that it was necessary though), Rush should be able to re-record VT. But I think that is not Rush' way of thinking, being progressive and all. Magnum return to form have been really impressive.

    Clockwork Angels

Pretty cool covers but they are not "steampunky" enough. No Zeppelines or steamengines. I have liked the CA images Rush have put out until now. Lets hope that the cover is in the same vein. I agree that S&A was a bit let down compared to earlier covers.
  14. I cant get enough spoilers! We have had so very few this time (Caravan and BU2B not included). Just a few interviews a year ago and longer, and a friend of someone that speaked to someone that knew Geddy and had listened to some preproduction songs. For me, the spoilers are a kind of a part of the anticipation process of a new Rush release. I get fired up by it. I will listen to every 30 second clip they release a hundred times. 30 second clips does not reveal the song anyway. It only fires you up even more, or it can also let you down. F.ex. I hated the clips of the new DT. The album turned out pretty decent anyway. I will soon turn 40 and this anticipation process is something that links me back to when I was 14/15 years old and hearing Rush for the very first time. I need this. I may be growing grey and bald but I dont want to feel old. I am an Fanboi!
  15. In my opinion a cool cover is done between genres. It never works if one tries to cover a song by replicating it. Then it is much better with the original. Alas, in my opinion, a truly great song will be as good in all genres. Here are a cover by Talisman: OMG this means that I like Madonna! I certainly dolike Talisman!
  16. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Mar 22 2012, 08:51 AM) QUOTE (Snowman @ Mar 22 2012, 01:17 AM)Well, 2112 was the very first Prog Metal album....I think. It was the album that kickstarted Prog Metal and gave us bands like Queensryche and DT. You've obviously never heard High Tide - Sea Shanties (1969). Listen to this song, and then tell me that 2112 is still the first prog metal album: http://www.youtube.com/embed/FY7MZHoGxHY?rel=0 QUOTE (Snowman @ Mar 22 2012, 01:17 AM)Goober, you are not a Fanboi until you stop hating VT. Oh, you're just too kind. Never heard about the Sea Shanties. Must check them out when I come back from work!

    Feedback II

QUOTE (rushgoober @ Mar 21 2012, 05:11 PM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ Mar 21 2012, 02:38 PM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Mar 21 2012, 07:56 AM) I can't believe 1/3rd of the people who responded think this is a good idea! Granted, Feedback is more enjoyable and listenable than Presto, RTB, T4E and VT, but that doesn't mean it was a good idea, and it CERTAINLY isn't a good idea to do it again, especially if it's in lieu of new studio material. That said, if it's between Feedback II and nothing, I'll take Feedback II, but only under those circumstances... I bet you'd like it if they covered: Caravan, Gong, Premiata Fornería Marconi, soft machine, or ... wait for it! Camel! God I miss your show!! My Thursday nights are so empty now! I think covers in general are a bad idea. It's very hard to improve on a song doing a cover, and while the ones on Feedback were nice and definitely had some strong Rush flavor to them, none of them surpassed the originals. It was just kind of an odd exercise. Anyway, yeah man, I hear ya - I very well may pick up doing my show again one of these days. Time will tell... Agreed! If you first do a cover, please do it in a completely different way. If you are trying to replicate the original version it will always be worse. A few have made it and come through. I kind of like At Vances cover of ABBA songs. Talisman did a very good cover of SEAL's song Crazy.

I like every album Rush have released. YOU! QUOTE (Snowman @ Mar 20 2012, 12:14 AM)There are odd tracks here and there that I dont like (ex. Neurotica, Bet your life, I think Im going Bald, mainly the more "stupid/funny" songs from Rush, with the exception of Dog Years which I really dig). Oh, ok, not you then. I don't know what the official definition of a fanboy/fanboi is (although I'm sure a quick trip to the urban dictionary will tell you that), but MY definition is someone who loves every single song from every album, or more commonly, and at minimum "finds something to like or love about every single song." They love every era of Rush equally. It's someone who is more than just forgiving of the band, makes excuses for every questionable act and gives them the benefit of the doubt for every single action they take, but refuses to say anything negative about anything Rush and loves and approves of everything they do. They get really annoyed when anyone says anything negative about Rush and take it oddly personally. It's someone who is intensely emotionally invested in the band to the point of religious zealotry or borderline worship. They likely have learned enough about life from Rush lyrics to make you a little uncomfortable. That, or some variation of that. Alsoooo.... they may or may not read every Neil Peart book, read every blog, listen to every interview, buy every magazine, try to get every album on vinyl, tries to get every promo release and poster possible, sees every concert within a 100 mile radius (and will sometimes travel further or much further), has an extremely large Rush bootleg collection, buys every live album, DVD, Japanese SHM pressing, etc., etc. They probably don't do ALL of those things, but does at least a few of them. They've almost surely read at least a couple Ayn Rand books. Damn...I do some of those things, but not all. And I dislike Feedback I also don't buy all Neil's books or read his blog. And there are songs on albums that I don't like, but there are songs on every album that I do like. I don't have to own everything the band puts out, in fact I don't own any greatest hits except Chronicles, but damn it if it didn't come out the same year I became a fan! It's looking bleak for me. I don't live my life thru Neil's lyrics, in fact I believe in GOD! F**K ME! I'm no fanboy! Son of a bitch! Oh well, I do try to give them the benefit of the doubt on stuff though!!! I guess I'm just regular old fan. NO, I'm not crying under my hand! Sorry man, but I think with a little more concerted effort you CAN be a fanboy, or even the ultra-fanatic fanboi with an I. I believe in you. You can do it! That hurt man...I feel that sarcasm! You already have me pegged as the ULTIMATE fanboI! Damn that hurts...I mean, damn that's cool! Heck yeah! On all of the very very few songs I dont like I do find something to like. F.ex on Neurotica, it really is just the chorus that is stupid. The rest of the song is OK, bordering to good! So, I guess I am an fanboi afterall! Wow...people really liking everything RUSH puts out really bothers you! Sorry for derailing the "negativity thread" with some positivity! How's this. I really don't like Feedback. I wish they would have never put that out. Who do they think they are putting out a tribute album to some of their favorites! Not only that, it sounds like shit! (the shit comment is just added for effect, I don't think it sounds that bad, I still don't like it though!) Feedback is the one RUSH album that I NEVER listen to. (I'm not joking either!!!) Does that help at all? Actually, I dont like Feedback either. It was a stupid idea. And when they first did this they could have picked more interesting songs. Like from the bands they say have inspired them; Led Zeppelin, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, etc. And not Buddy Holly or whatever and God Knows What. So I officially does not like Feedback. But I am still a Fanboi!
  19. Well, 2112 was the very first Prog Metal album....I think. It was the album that kickstarted Prog Metal and gave us bands like Queensryche and DT. It certainly has something about it. If you read interviews with other bands/muscians where they are asked about their influences/favourite albums, 2112 is very often being mentioned at the top. But compared to the other albums, IMO, 2112 is not in the top 5 Rush releases. Hardly within my top 10. I would still rate it 9/10 or 10/10! Goober, you are not a Fanboi until you stop hating VT.
  20. You can quote an Rush lyric sentence for every aspects in life!
