    Governor of Ohio

If the freakin Governor of the state in which the Hall resides can see whats wrong why can't everybody else? Jesus.
  3. GUP tour is my fav. Wish I had it on blu ray with the full setlist and drum solo.
  4. Can you imagine if blu ray technology would have been available in the 70's and 80's. Wow. All those great shows captured in hi def. And not just Rush. Would like to have all those classic performances from various bands. Most bands that put out blu rays now are past their peak as far as the great classic rock bands.
  5. Only on here could The Pass get voted best song AND silliest song.
  6. C,mon. Gotta be Didacts and Narpets. So obvious. Listennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!
  7. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ May 16 2011, 03:59 PM) Thank to the OP for pointing out the layering as a good thing; many fans hate it, but not me. Best example: listen to the beginning of "Ceiling Unlimited" on headphones. It's like: guitar enters, bass enters, another guitar enters, first guitar exits, etc. Everything, even counter-melodies, sits atop each other so seemlessly, and you can hear new stuff the 20th time you've listened to it. I loved VT from the first listen. Very different for Rush - kind of "artsy" and yet hard-rocking at the same time. Good post. Now just give us that remaster so we can crank without reservations
  8. VT rocks! Would still like a remastered version as long as they don't go overboard and kill the balls.
  9. QUOTE (metaldad @ May 16 2011, 12:26 PM) QUOTE (trenken @ May 16 2011, 12:16 PM) That wasnt the case in '81. EVERYONE knew who they were, they were all over the radio. True. From what i remember in the summer of 1981[ ] The biggest Rock bands were Rush, Van Halen, Journey, Styx and Reo Speedwagon . They sold out Arenas and sold Millions of albums . Now Rush does Not sell even 500,000 albums and can't sell out an Arena in the U.S. . They might be more popular they they have been in a long time ,but nothing like 1981 That's comparing apples and oranges. NO BAND sells as many records today or draws as many concert fans as in the 80's. It is a different era. Even the mega popular pop/rock bands have trouble just going platinum in this day and age if downloading. I have to agree with you though. There was a buzz about Rush in the early 80's and even non Rush fans were talking about the band.
  10. Good poll. Had to go with Dreamline even though it is overplayed I never get tired of it. It just flows so well. I like Chain Lightning almost as much.
  11. QUOTE (cuiaba @ May 14 2011, 05:15 PM) Not only did The Cars and Duran Duran release superb new albums in 2011, but so did Whitesnake...."Forevermore" is outstanding. I would love to see Rush put out a new album equal to the quality of the new Cars, DD, and Whitesnake CDs, and I totally think Rush can do it! Thanks. Will check out the new Whitesnake.
  12. Well I like what I hear with those first two tracks. I'm trying not to listen to them much until CA is released because I'll get burnt out. Hope Rush brings the keys back even more on the rest of the record.
  13. QUOTE (ucsteve667 @ May 12 2011, 11:26 PM) eh, I have trouble with the fact that The cars are missing a major singer/songwriter with Orr dying That what makes it more amazing. Or do you think the new one doesn't hold up to their old stuff? Most reviews I've read think it sounds exactly like classic Cars. Wish Orr could sing songs like Soon though. That is kind of like the "Drive" of the record.
  14. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ May 12 2011, 10:49 PM) Depending on what is most important for you in a song, each and every one of their albums could be your favorite or their masterpiece. If you like loud guitars, maybe VT is a masterpiece to you. I suspect CA will have some things to like an some to dislike. If the dislikes don't matter to you, CA will be just as good as any Rush album. Just my 0.02 I'm talking consensus here. Sure everybody has their favs but the general consensus is that Rush peak was between late 70's to mid 80's. Very few would say SnA or VT is their best piece of work. Good records for sure though. Rush doesn't have a studio record I dislike.
  15. QUOTE (Oracle @ May 12 2011, 10:35 PM) Here's the thing though: Rush and Duran Duran have been recording at an almost constant rate since the beginning of their careers. The Cars only just released a new album for the first time in 24 years. I wouldn't venture to say that Duran Duran have been at the end of their career and I certainly wouldn't say that about Rush either. Maybe The Cars should have just called it quits, but that's just me. Either way, if CA is to be Rush's last album, I'll be fine with that; and if they decide to record anything else, that's fine too. You do have to admit that is impressive to be away that long and step right back in with something brilliant though. Wonder why The Police didn't do a studio album when they reunited? They left off on Synchronicity and what a way to go. That is one great record.
  16. There is a misconception by most people that classic bands cannot put out records at the end of their careers that rival their best work. And usually I would say this is true but just within the last month I have bought releases by these two bands that truthfully I would put toe to toe with any of their best stuff IMO. I am thrilled with these records and I haven't said that about a release in a long time. Amazingly both sound like they stepped out of a time machine and continued on. I think it takes a willingness to go back somewhat and embrace the signature sound that made you a unique band and pushed you over the edge. Can Rush do this as well? I think they are too afraid of repeating themselves to go all the way back(nor would a lot of people want them to) but I do think CA will be a great record. Not rivaling their best though like I feel about the latest two from these 80's pop bands.
  17. Far Cry is the best song. There is a reason why it's first:)

  19. QUOTE (pratt53 @ May 8 2011, 08:12 PM) QUOTE (presto123 @ May 8 2011, 07:54 PM)I can tell you are a new drummer. Yes drumming is physical but if your hands and feet are developed to elite levels it's not as physically hard as most people think. This takes years and years and years of dedicated speed and endurance training. Neil is playing as good as ever although maybe not as aggressive as he used to. Wasn't Buddy Rich over 70 when he was tearing it up like no other? Not as aggressive as he once was, is a good observation and way to put it. He's not as aggressive. And a lot of that, IMO, has to do with the fact that he's not in the same shape he used to be. He is a lot larger, his arms, his torso, and I've noticed that since the S&A tour his whole body language and attack has changed due to that. A lot of drumming, like dancing, is about what happens in the air, and Neil just doesn't move through the air, the way he used to. Buddy Rich was a different type of drummer...obviously. But he played jazz and big band music, on a small four piece kit, utilizing traditional grip with his fingers and wrists doing most of the work. He certainly needed to be in good shape and have a great deal of stamina, but he didn't need to move through the air or around a large kit the way Neil does to pull off his craft. Neil is certainly more economical in his playing these days but I think a lot of that is because he's been studying with mostly jazz inspired drummers. But it's not like he's cheating or anything playing these songs. All the fills are there. The point I was trying to make is that there are plenty of out of shape and overweight drummers out there that play incredibly fast (even speed metal)for long periods of time. So it's more about hand and foot development than it is" being in shape".

  21. Power Windows hands down for me.
  22. Like I said before.....Nick was not with them during the writing process last time. This record will be phenomenal with Nick's input. Mark my words:)

QUOTE (SeamusWiles @ May 6 2011, 02:21 PM) QUOTE (presto123 @ May 6 2011, 02:20 PM) Please NOOOOOOOOOOO. Hated that idea. And then that led to that folky sounding acoustic guitar on SnA. that's not fair... don't blame Feedback for S&A sucking! I really do think that FB influenced all the acoustic guitar showing up on SnA. I do love acoustic but not necessarily the way they used it on SnA. For example.....I like Broons Bane far more than Hope.

  25. What baffles me is that they always resisted repeating themselves as far as going back and doing record side long pieces and such. Most of us have wanted this for quite some time and suddenly just out of the blue they change their stripes? And they get more aggressive/progressive in their song writing. Nick R. by himself got them to do this? If he did I want to shake the guys hand. Wow.
