  1. I love all those songs to death, but I would count Animate among them as great. Oh I agree. There are very few songs on Counterparts I dislike.
  2. I'll take Cut To The Chase, Between Sun And Moon, Leave That Thing Alone and Double Agent over Animate any day.
  3. I've seen some Animate performances where Neil has trouble keeping time. It's weird because it never seems to happen in other songs. It's a killer tune in the studio though. What do you mean by trouble keeping time? Is his tempo fluctuating or is he just playing it slower than you are used to? If he's playing it slower I guarantee that is a conscious decision. Neil goes over soundcheck tapes frequently and checks his tempos. Like his time fluctuates. Geddy and Alex have to keep up. It doesn't happen often but it has happened before, but I've only noticed it in Animate. Well...I'll give him a break. He is human after all....lol. You have to admit that usually his tempos are rock solid live. Especially for a drummer that only uses clicks when he absolutely has to.

  5. That tour was awesome. I liked the PoW stuff as good as anything. From the front row no less! I concert I will never forget...
  6. Disagree. Geddy's voice became better/more accessible after Hemispheres. Even Geddy probably realized he made a slight mistake by trying to sing like that in the early years.
  7. Whether you are a fan of Roll The Bones, Hate it, or are indifferent, most people have to admit that Dreamline is a sparkling gem on this record. After listening to it tonight, I realized that it is a song I NEVER get tired of. It flows better than any Rush song I can think of. I get burnt out by Sawyer, Limelight, Spirit, Subdivisions, and practically every classic Rush song, but I never tire of Dreamline. There has to be something said for that. My ONLY complaint is that I wish the album solo was twice the length like the one Alex plays live. What are your thoughts on this classic Rush track? (best track of the 90's) haha
  8. Mine started at the beginning and never went away till it was over. I can't really comment on the sound but the visual was great... Why can't you comment on the sound? I don't think my laptop is a great indicator of what the thing will sound like. I could be wrong though.... I listened on laptop through headphones. If it sounds good on youtube(which it does) it will be unbelievable on blu ray.

  10. Holy "slow cut" mother of God....well....this is the video editing that all of you have been pining for. Good audio goes without saying. It's Bottrill.
  11. So when is this happening? Who knows, but pretty sure it's a safe bet. He seems to be the band's go to guy these days.(thank God) Hope so. Its a good album I can't stand listening to. I wouldn't quite go as far as you. That was the old VT for me. Very good material that I couldn't listen to. CA mix is not great, but it doesn't keep me from enjoying the awesome material.

  13. Once Botrill gets hold of the masters it will be the definitive version. I heard the vinyl rip and while it is a slight improvement, it wasn't enough to blow me away or anything. I didn't think Chycki's original two singles mixes were perfect either.
  14. I wonder how many members are original? I seem to recall some blonde hair members in that band and I don't see any in the commercial. They are milking that one hit for all it's worth.... It is a funny commercial, but after the 100th time.....not so much.
  15. It was recorded in the 1970s and the first song releases from the album were made in the 70s. How could people hear a 1980s album in the 1970s? You mean how could people hear a 1980's record in the 70's? :P Where did you get that the first releases were made in the 70's? Give me a date.
  16. It was recorded in the 1970s and the first song releases from the album were made in the 70s. How could people hear a 1980s album in the 1970s? Maybe you know more than me, but it says at WIKI that all the singles were released in 1980. They didn't start writing the record until July 79. Came out Jan. 80. That is an 80's record. Even style says 80's to me. After all the weirdness that was their 70's catalog, suddenly this one screamed "airplay" and mainstream. By Rush standards at least. https://en.wikipedia...Permanent_Waves http://www.discogs.com/Rush-Spirit-Of-Radio/release/584714
  17. Why does everybody keep saying PW is a 70's album? If it was released in the 80's it's an 80's album in my book.
  18. Since its Rush, yes. Definitely give it a shot. Or several listens. That being said, I agree with all of the comments here about the rotten recording quality. Its is brick-walled. If you like your music that way you may like it. That being said, I don't like my music brick walled. I like it being able to breathe - and Rush's music really does much better if it can breathe. If you can here the silence between the notes Rush's music really benefits from it. Now the recording quality is far, far better than the original VT. That album was really bad. CA is just thick and noisy. The songs are decent - give it a shot. Its not one of my favorites. In fact, the only Rush albums I like less are VT, CoS, ST (I guess - they are about on the same level) & RTB (again - sort of close). Its definitely in my bottom 1/4 of Rush's work. FBN & everything from 2112 - Presto, CP - T4E & S & A are all better. But yes, give it a shot. Its ok. A ringing endorsement Just teasing but I agree with you. Better than some but worse than most. Most due to production. The material is better than anything in eons... Like I said.....you know this is going to get the Botrill treatment eventually. Can't wait!
  19. Most people's complaints about CA are about production only. Very few have a lot of complaints about the material. Rush need to get Botrill to work on the remix pronto. All the brick walling issues can easily be fixed(a lot easier than VT which Botrill pulled off a miracle considering) and then it is easily a top 10 Rush record. It's probably a top 6 for me without the remix.
  20. Does a bear shit in the woods?
  21. When it comes to posts....I'll take quality over quantity every time. Anybody with 10,000 posts has way too much time on their hands IMO...
  22. This is what the board has evolved into And you would know this how? It's sad what the board has evolved into. Give me one quote where a jazz drummer is putting Neil down.....and even if there is one last time I checked Neil is not first and foremost a jazz drummer... Neil would kill them in the prog rock venue.
  23. I also find it funny that threads like these are almost always started by non-drummers.
  24. Being influential does not mean that you can't be overrated. The Beatles were influential, yet they are overrated. He's only over-rated if you go by all out technical ability.(and even then he's got a ton) When you combine technique, creativity, and style he is rated right where he belongs. Among the all time greats. He is one of very few drummers in history that developed a style that captured the imaginations of a whole generation or two of young drummers and listeners. That speaks legend in my mind.
